Excerpt:
"This is just the beginning Krissa. The takeover is finally in motion. Once the goods are reallocated, we can start to infiltrate."

"How will we reach every unit?" I looked up at the screen in the front of the room that displayed all of our country's units.

"There are people in every unit ready to go to bat for us. This takeover is much bigger than just here in the Dwelling," Cade stated as he used a laser, pointing to all the units.

"Like a war?"

"We're hoping it doesn't come to that."

"Hoping? What happens to people living in the units that get caught in the crossfire? I have family out there. I don't want harm brought to anyone. This needs to be peaceful if you want me to be any part of it. No bloodshed, understood?"

"Well, we can't bring knives to a gun fight, Krissa." It was Braiden who responded. "We don't want a fight, but we have to be prepared."

His hand covered mine in an attempt to calm my outrage, but I pulled away. I wasn't fully committed to their plans. It was hard to see growth if innocent lives would be taken. How was that plan bringing positive change for everyone? I was feeling used. I couldn't help but think I was a pawn in the game they were playing.

Blog Tour: How To Get Ainsley Bishop To Fall in Love With You by T.M. Franklin @TM_Franklin @twcs_pubhouse

Copyright Dasha Petrenko

Why We Love the "Firsts"

What is it about first love? That first longing glance across the crowded dance floor/school hallway/parking lot? That first kiss?

Marco moves to close the distance between them, kissing away her tears before catching her lip with his own. As he kisses her, the bonfire glows brighter. The acrobats catch the light perfectly as they spin. The entire circus sparkles, dazzling every patron.

Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

For those of us who read and write young adult novels, the "firsts" often play a big role. And that's probably why YA novels aren't really just for teens. In fact, a 2012 study in Publisher's Weekly found that 55% of buyers of YA books were actually 18 or over, with the largest segment aged 30 to 44, a group that alone accounted for 28% of YA sales.

So what's the appeal? Well, in the case of YA romance, I tend to think it's that we all enjoy remembering that more innocent time - when love wasn't touched by things like mortgages and carpools - and it was all about the swoon!

"That was my first kiss," she said. "My first real one." Copyright Subbotina Anna
He brought his head close, resting his forehead on hers. Blond waves fell around her face, soft against her cheeks.

His chest rose and fell as he drew in a breath. "Felt like the first real one for me, too."

Veronica Rossi , Under the Never Sky

For a second his dark eyes are on mine, and he's quiet. Then he touches my face and leans in close, brushing my lips with his. The river roars and I feel its spray on my ankles. He grins and presses his mouth to mine.

I tense up at first, unsure of myself, so when he pulls away, I'm sure I did something wrong, or badly. But he takes my face in his hands, his fingers strong against my skin, and kisses me again, firmer this time, more certain. I wrap an arm around him, sliding my hand up his neck and into his short hair.

For a few minutes we kiss, deep in the chasm, with the roar of water all around us.

Veronica Roth, Divergent

Those Veronicas sure now how to write swoon, don't they?

It's not always all about the kiss, though. Sometimes, it's about the anticipation.

There was hesitation in his step as he closed the distance between us, placing his palms down on each side of my hips. His face was dipped toward mine, his lips so close that if I were to exhale deeply we'd be touching. He breathed out slowly and I closed my eyes, my entire body tingling with anticipation, feeling lightheaded as I waited.

Amber L. Johnson, Beatless

For me, the waiting can be the best part. The buildup to that moment can be exhilarating. It's a time when we all remember that first love, and the sweaty palms, pounding heart, and butterflies in the stomach that accompany it. It can make us swoon or smile… or even laugh.

Ainsley carefully set her coffee cup on the shelf before grabbing a pale pink cape out of a drawer beneath it. She flicked it open, and it billowed around me before settling on my shoulders. "Don't worry," she said as she fastened it around my neck. "It won't affect your masculinity."

"I wasn't worried," I said. Of course, my voice cracked.

Ainsley laughed distractedly as she ran her fingers through my damp hair. I tensed, but she didn't seem to notice. "I would have shampooed your hair, Oliver."

I shrugged. "I was trying to be considerate. Didn't want you to get a handful of-" Okay, how could I finish that sentence without sounding completely disgusting? Nope. Couldn't think of a single thing.

Ainsley looked at me, eyebrows raised. "Handful of what?" she asked, lips twitching. "What do you keep in there?" She poked at my hair with the tail of her comb.

"Shut up." I tried to hold my frown but failed. "It's only polite, isn't it? I mean, you wouldn't go to the dentist without brushing."

"Could you imagine?" Ainsley wrinkled her nose at me in the mirror.

"Gross."

She grabbed a water bottle and sprayed my head a few times, then combed through it, wrestling with a couple of snarls. "Do you have an idea what you want?" she asked.

What do I want? What do I want?

I was pretty sure "for you to never ever EVER stop touching my hair" was the wrong answer.

- How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love with You, Chapter 7

Ainsley

Seventeen-year-old Oliver Wendell Holmes (Yes, his parents are just that peculiar, but his brother's name is Sherlock, so it could have been worse) knows that he's different. He's quirky, awkward, and he's okay with that. Oliver also likes making lists-meticulous procedures for achieving his goals, step-by-step. Whether it's "How to Get an A in Chemistry" or "How to Get Accepted to MIT," he has a process, and it's worked for him so far. He doesn't even care that the popular kids mock him. Oliver's got his eye on the prize.

So when he decides it's time to declare his feelings for Ainsley Bishop, the girl of his dreams, it's only natural for him to make a list-a point-by-point strategy to win her heart. He knows it will take a grand gesture for her to see all he has to offer, and her approaching birthday provides the ideal opportunity for Oliver to put his plan into action.

Finding the perfect gift is a challenge Oliver meets with his usual dogged determination. He'll need to watch her carefully for clues to pinpoint exactly what he should give her. And along the way, he might just learn that what Ainsley really needs is not quite what he expected.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Seventeen-year-old Oliver Wendell Holmes is kind of a peculiar person. When it comes to setting goals for himself; he likes making list. He is very fastidious when it comes to his list no matter what he sets out to do. Whether he is trying to make good grades or trying to get into a good college. He has his own way of getting things done and he likes it just fine.

So when he decides to get Ainsley Bishop to fall in love with him he has to have a list. He makes a list that he will follow up to the last detail. It is the only way Oliver knows. Oliver gets a lot of help from his friend Viney and an older gentleman from the center where he works fixing computers and where he also just hangs out with Hank and some of the other residents at the center.

Oliver has a hard time with other people in his school as he is not part of the popular crowd. But Oliver is ok with this and yes he gets picked on sometimes but he has learned to live with it and go on with his life. By ignoring it makes him the better person and besides neither the person nor the comments are worth the time or trouble that fighting back may cause to himself or anyone else. But there are times when you have to stand up for yourself, times when you are right in doing so.

Oliver has a little brother named Sherlock who like Oliver has his own thing to do. Sherlock is like his name sake. He likes investigating crimes or whatever happens to be going on at the time whether it is at school or at home. He likes taking out his little notebook and writing down all of the clues he runs across until finds the answer or what he thinks is the answer which is not always the case. Sherlock has a long ways to go before he can be an investigator like his name sake but he is only a child and has a long time yet to learn from his nemeses.

When I first realized that I signed up to review How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love With You I was like; "oh no you didn't. I couldn't believe it. I am more of a horror or paranormal kind of person. But on occasion I do dabble in other genres and I always find out that I do like the books after all and am glad that I read them and How to Get Ainsley Bishop to Fall in Love With You was no different. After I started reading it I was like if this was a movie I would love it. The more I read the more I wanted to read. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. I read it way faster than I ever thought I would. I read it in a few hours so hey, I must have liked it very much.

Book Description:

"I am older than you can comprehend. I am eight." - Emily Spellmaker.

Emily Spellmaker is missing. She didn't return to Witchwood Park Elementary this year and Kendra, the shy little girl she befriended, is heartbroken. Kendra waits alone on the park bench after school each day until the Tuesday a troll walks out of the woods. He chooses Kendra, Jimmy (the school bully), and Daniel (an outcast) to come on a magical journey where they must overcome an evil queen and her Army of the Faceless to free an enslaved land. In the process they learn who they really are and what friendship means, while getting closer to solving the mystery of Emily Spellmaker.

Excerpt:

They were falling.

"What's happening?!" Jimmy shouted. "Where's Daniel?"

Jimmy and Kendra had jumped through a hole in the top of the sky. There was no water to swim in and no ground beneath it. They were simply falling, from hundreds of feet above the kingdom.

Kendra looked around. Daniel was nowhere to be found.

"I don't know!" she shouted.

Jimmy and Kendra reached desperately for each other. They clasped hands and watched as they fell toward certain doom.

They could see the whole of the kingdom below. There was the central mountain Tree Stump had told them about, with the False Queen's giant castle atop. A river ran from the north of the kingdom, around the mountain on both sides like it was an island, and into an endless, shining sea in the south. To the northwest were rock-strewn plains with volcanoes and rivers of lava. To the southwest was a welcoming and vast, lush forest. And to the east…was nothing but an impenetrable wall of grey clouds.

They were falling straight for the castle.

As they fell the ground became clearer and clearer. The False Queen's soldiers were coming out of the castle barracks. Two red shapes began to rise into the sky beneath them.

"Dragons!" Jimmy screamed.

Jimmy was right. There were two, giant red dragons flying toward them.

"Maybe they are good dragons?" Kendra asked.

In response, the closest dragon shot a burst of yellow flame past Jimmy. The next shot wasn't going to miss. Kendra and Jimmy held each other and waited to be fried. Then a terrifying roar like nothing they had ever heard shattered the air. It must have filled the entire kingdom below. The red dragons heard it, but the sudden fear on their evil, snarling faces was coming from something they could see…

Jimmy and Kendra looked up.

A massive, black dragon, larger than the two red dragons combined, was flying directly above them. It opened its jaws and launched green dragon fire down at them. The stream of blazing hot flame rushed past them and hit its true targets, the red dragons. When the flame cleared, the red dragons were plummeting back to the ground.

The black dragon grabbed Jimmy and Kendra, one in each of its back claws, then turned and flew away from the army below. Kendra wanted to see if they had faces, but that was the least of her worries right then. In a matter of minutes they were low above the trees of the giant forest. The dragon dropped them both into the treetops.

Jimmy and Kendra crashed through the branches and onto wooden platforms built high in the trees. They were shaken, but alive and together. Through the trees they watched the shadow of the great dragon disappear over the mountains in the north.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Kendra is a very shy little girl who attends Witchwood Park Elementary. Kendra doesn't have many friends and usually stays to herself but she does have one friend Emily Spellmaker but Kendra is heartbroken when Emily doesn't show up for the new school year. Kendra has lost her only friend. But things do start to look up for Kendra when a troll, Tree Stump comes out of Witchwood Park woods to enlist Kendra, Daniel and Jimmy's help to fight the evil queen of Witchwood Park woods. Daniel and Jimmy are like Kendra as they are misfits too. But they all join up with Tree Stump and help him to fight the evil queen and help to free the enslaved creatures that live in the woods.

Kendra, Daniel and Jimmy are all afraid to go up against the evil queen and her army but they put aside all their fears to help each other and all of the creatures that live in the woods. They become fast friends and learn what it is like to have someone who cares about them. They learn to work together as a team and that not everybody is against them. They learn to look deep inside to find who they really are. They overcome their disabilities to help others.

A Tale of Witchwood Park s a great book for children who love to read especially if they have an imagination and would love to go on a magical journey with Kendra, Daniel and Jimmy to help them find Kendra's friend Emily. Will they find Emily? Is Emily lost in the woods beside the Witchwood Park School?

I have enjoyed going on a magical journey with Kendra, Daniel, Jimmy and Tree Stump and look forward to more magical journeys with the characters from A Tale of Witchwood Park.

Excerpt:
I loved the beach. The sound of the gentle waves diffusing across the sand, the heat of the sun, and the calm breeze gliding over my skin relaxed me. My friends' muted voices carried over the distance, in harmony with the sea gulls' calls and rhythm of the waves. I felt peace. Leaving footprints for the waves to wash away, I walked along the shoreline, looking for brightly colored or uniquely shaped stones. Finding distinctive items was another of my favorite activities here. I've even found worn sea glass-or lake glass-on occasion. I kept everything I found in a glass cylinder on my dresser.

A glint of light in the sand caught my eye. Before I could act, a wave covered it. Thinking it was a nickel or a bottle cap, I waited for the water to retreat. The water pulled away and exposed a few silver links. I plunged my hand into the sand and plucked it out before it was lost again. I used the rushing water from the next wave to remove the remaining sand in my hand and looked at it.

It glistened in the sunlight. It was the most beautiful, intricate bracelet I'd ever seen. Stunned at my discovery, my first thought was that I couldn't possibly keep it. I glanced around, trying to spot anyone looking for something lost. How would I find the rightful owner? I certainly couldn't bury it again in the sand; its beauty would go unappreciated. I hesitated, then wrapped it around my wrist, looping the toggle clasp. I turned my wrist over to take in its brilliance. The large, oval, yellow center stone, set east to west, was surrounded by smaller, light green rectangular stones and pale blue circular stones held in place by delicate filigree. Just before the thick silver links sat a square, bluish, iridescent stone on each side. Once it was on my wrist, I didn't want to take it off. Ever. The colors matched practically everything I wore. I'd never felt so strongly about a material thing. I had always been drawn to gemstones. Giddy with my find, I promised to diligently watch for anyone searching for something lost in the sand. If by the end of the day, I didn't find its rightful owner, it would be officially mine.

At dusk, we reluctantly agreed to pack up and head home. Elyse commented in the truck about my new bracelet, and everyone agreed what a cool find it was.

***

I fell into bed, and sleep came quickly. I found myself in the dream again. Standing on the edge of the patio, drawn to the trees but held in place by an invisible force, the frustration rose inside me.

I was determined to confront this guy. I resolved to do something new-even if it was only to move off the patio or to speak. My mind screamed at me to ask what he wanted…why he was here…but I could not will my mouth to form words. I would have settled for a word at this point. One word. That would be better than just standing there, mute and rooted in place. I didn't want the dream to disappear until I understood it. I'd read that our subconscious works on our problems while we sleep. It helps us figure things out, piecing events together like puzzle pieces. There was a reason I couldn't shake it. It kept returning because I didn't understand its purpose. I hadn't acknowledged the message yet. I knew if I could just see him or talk to him, I would get answers.

I focused on him and on me. On the expanse of space between us. I willed the distractions to lessen: the music to fade, the voices of my friends to subside. When the noise and commotion decreased, my focus sharpened. I wasn't walking out empty-handed again. As the sounds grew fainter, my vision took on the dream-like quality I was familiar with: sharply in focus where I looked, blurry around the edges.

I knew I could walk. If I could change all those things outside of myself, surely I could move my own muscles. I found myself stepping off the patio, onto the grass, shortening the distance between us. Each step brought me closer to him. Just as I reached the edge of the yard, a buzzing caused me to pause. Awareness came hard and fast. My alarm. I felt myself pulled back into my room. I fought it, trying to root myself in the dream. I'd finally changed it, and I was going to disappear before I had any answers.

I felt his contentment as everything faded. That was the encouragement I needed. I knew I was on the right track.

I woke up smiling.
