The bloody war between the Vampire Tribunal and the defiant scathe of Penton, Alabama, rages on, forcing its residents and their bonded humans to retreat into the underground fortress of last resort: Omega. There, Will Ludlam is charged with the care of Penton's humans, though he longs to fight alongside his vampire brethren. He knows the risks: as the renegade son of the Tribunal's vicious leader, Will's capture could doom the resistance.

Yet he is determined to prove his worth to his adopted scathe, to his vengeful father and to former US Army officer Randa Thomas, his beautiful, reluctant partner. Randa has little faith that a former member of the vampire elite has what it takes to fight a war. But as their enemies descend upon Omega, Will's polished charm and Randa's guarded heart finally give way to the warrior within.

Fans of Susannah Sandlin's Penton Legacy are sure to devour this long-awaited third installment of the steamy paranormal series.

Excerpt:

Will stopped and scented the air again. There were two vampires nearby; one belonged to the Penton scathe, and one didn't.

He ignored both vampires and skirted to the back of the street where the burned shell of his house still smelled of smoke and ash after three days. Aligning his position with the oak tree twenty feet behind what was left of his chimney, he paced forty steps into the woods.

A thorny bramble that had been draped over a small, scrubby bush pricked his fingers when he pulled it back. Grasping the trunk of the bush, he eased it from its loose grasp in the soil, exposing the top of a metal box.

The loud click of a cocked pistol preceded the cold press of steel against the back of his head by less than a second.

He inhaled, annoyed. A rookie mistake. He'd gotten so engrossed in his task he'd let someone slip up on him.

Vampire.

Penton scathe.

Female.

Freaking Randa.

* * *

Randa grinned, enjoying the disgusted look on Will's face. "If I were your father, I'd already have the silver spoon back in your mouth, Willy. He'd have you trussed up like a rodeo calf by now, hauling you back to wherever it is he lives when he's not terrorizing innocent people."

Will Ludlam was the kind of guy Randa Thomas had hated as a human, and she didn't like him a bit more as a vampire. Less, in fact. Not only was he a spoiled rich boy, he was now a virtually immortal spoiled rich boy. He had probably been a blue-chip jock in school with a 4.0 GPA and a string of girls trailing his every step.

Plus, he annoyed the hell out of her. The consummate smartass.

"No, if you were my father, you'd have slit my throat-not enough to kill me, but enough to make sure I couldn't fight back." His voice was soft, calm. "Then you'd hand me over to your sadistic, freakshow of a second-in-command Shelton, who would play with me until I couldn't take it anymore. Only when I was good and broken would you return the silver spoon to my mouth."

Good God, would any father really do that? Will didn't sound as if he were joking. Randa relaxed her stance for only a split second before the world tilted and she hit the ground, landing on her back with Will stretched out on top of her in a full body press. And he had her gun.

"Damn it." She pushed against him but it was like pressing on bedrock.

He propped on his elbows and grinned down at her. His hat had fallen off in the scuffle and the moonlight glinted off his hair, making it look silver instead of a naturally streaked blond. And he had dimples, as if God hadn't already rewarded him with enough in the looks department.

"And if I were my father, you would be dead. Or worse. Believe me, with Matthias, there's always much worse. Give up?"

She squirmed again, but froze when she realized he was getting turned on by her movements. There was definitely more of him pressing on her than there had been a few seconds earlier.

He laughed, a white glint of teeth in the moonlight. "Oh, don't stop moving, sweetheart. This is getting more and more interesting."

Yeah, she could feel exactly how interested he was getting. She felt a very un-vampirelike flush of heat as he wedged a knee between her legs. Damn it. She clenched her teeth at her body's betrayal-which he'd be able to sense. She hated being a vampire; there was no sense of privacy. "Get. Off. Me. Now."

Will lowered his head and, damn him, inhaled deeply, with his face pressed against the side of her neck. Her carotid artery also thumped in a very unvampire-like cadence. She waited for the smartass comments to start.

Instead, he lifted his head and looked her in the eye. She could swear his heartbeat sped up, although it was hard to tell over the pounding of her own. Well, this was awkward.

He blinked and opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again.

Well, that was one good thing. Will had been stricken dumb, at least for a moment. It wouldn't last.

With the vampire world on the brink of civil war over the scarcity of untainted human blood, battle lines are being drawn between the once peaceful vampire and human enclave of Penton, Alabama, and the powerful Vampire Tribunal.

A Scottish gallowglass warrior turned vampire in the early 17th century, Mirren Kincaid once served the Tribunal as its most creative and ruthless executioner-a time when he was known as the Slayer. But when assigned a killing he found questionable, Mirren abandoned the Tribunal's political machinations and disappeared-only to resurface two centuries later as the protector and second-in-command of Penton. Now the Tribunal wants him back on their side-or dead.

To break their rogue agent, they capture Glory Cummings, the descendant of a shaman, and send her to restore Mirren's bloodthirsty nature. But instead of a monster, Glory sees a man burdened by the weight of his past. Could her magic touch-meant by the tribunal to bring out a violent killer-actually help Mirren break his bonds and discover the love he doesn't believe he deserves?

It's a town under siege, a powerful warrior in a battle with his past, and one woman who can make the earth move-literally-as the Penton Legacy continues.

Excerpt:

What was Matthias thinking, throwing a human woman in the cell with a vampire who'd been locked up and starved for over a month?

Mirren waited on the bench, his back against the wall, his head down. Waited until Matthias climbed the steps, slammed the door, clicked the dead bolt home. Waited until he could get control of the hunger that had begun raging the second the woman stumbled down the stairway. She was invaccinate, and he wanted nothing more than to take her, blood and body, until there was nothing left.

If he did that, he'd be no better than the version of Mirren Kincaid he'd tried so hard to leave behind. He'd be the Slayer again. His hands could too easily remember the mindless sweep of the sword, the heavy fall of the battle-ax, the controlled back-thrust of a heavy firearm. If the cold darkness ever fell over him again, he feared he'd embrace it.

"Mister, you awake?"

Shit. She would have to be a talker. Mirren hated a talky woman. They always expected you to talk back.

He raised his head slowly and caught his breath. She was young, maybe mid-twenties, and pretty in a rode-hard kind of way.

"Your eyes are silver-I've seen enough vampires since I was kidnapped to know when your eyes get lighter, it means you're hungry. But I've never seen any like yours. How long has it been since you ate? Umm…Make that how long since you drank?"

If the stupid woman kept walking toward him, he wouldn't be held responsible. "Stay where you are." He narrowed his eyes at her, thinking. How could she help him without sending his need so far over the edge he lost control of it?

She eeked when he shifted on the bench and turned his back toward her. "Untie me."

She stumbled a little when she reached the bench and sat hard. The woman was stoned out of her gourd. He could smell the drugs on her. "Your wrists are all torn up. That has to hurt." She sat on the bench behind him, and Mirren breathed in her scent with his eyes closed. Damn, but he wanted to feed so badly his muscles ached.

She muttered as she worked, her drug-addled fingers slipping off the rope. "You're so big that I'm surprised this rope could hold you. I should be able to…Let's see here, it's too dark. Man, this is funky rope."

"Stop yapping, start untying." She had that broad, soft Southern accent he found sexy, but she used it way too much.

"Yeah, yeah, okay." She tugged harder on the ropes, burning his sensitive wrists with each pull. "Sorry, sorry. Why is it burning your skin like that?"

Mirren growled and spoke through gritted teeth. "It's laced with silver, and I'm a freaking vampire. Just untie me." Damn, he had to get himself under control, or he'd scare the woman to death and she wouldn't finish freeing his arms or feed him either one.

"Well, you've got the funny eyes, but I don't see any fangs."

God help him, he'd show her some fangs. "I said I was a vampire. Now finish untying me."

Mirren twisted his wrists and felt the rope give way-the woman had gotten it loose enough that he didn't need her help.

"But wait, how do I know you-"

She gasped as Mirren pulled his wrists apart, popped the rope onto the cell floor, and shifted around to face her. "Can you…?" She paused and swallowed hard, edging away from him on the bench. Mirren's gaze dropped to her mouth. "Can you feed without killing me?"

Mirren nodded slowly. Maybe. Maybe not.

The Penton Legacy, Book 1
By Susannah Sandlin
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Number Of Pages 357

Following a worldwide pandemic whose vaccine left human blood deadly to vampires, the vampire community is on the verge of starvation and panic. Some have fanned into rural areas, where the vaccine was less prevalent, and are taking unsuspecting humans as blood slaves. Others are simply starving, which for a vampire is worse than death-a raging hunger in a creature too weak to feed.

Immune to these struggles-at first-is Penton, a tiny community in rural Chambers County, Alabama, an abandoned cotton mill town that has been repopulated by charismatic vampire Aidan Murphy, his scathe of 50 vampires, and their willingly bonded humans. Aidan has recruited his people carefully, believing in a peaceful community where the humans are respected and the vampires retain a bit of their humanity.

But an unresolved family feud and the paranoia of the Vampire Tribunal descend on Penton in the form of Aidan's brother, Owen Murphy. Owen has been issued a death warrant that can only be commuted if he destroys Penton-and Aidan, against whom he's held a grudge since both were turned vampire in 17th-century Ireland. Owen begins a systematic attack on the town, first killing its doctor, then attacking one of Aidan's own human familiars

To protect his people, Aidan is forced to go against his principles and kidnap an unvaccinated human doctor-and finds himself falling in love for the first time since the death of his wife in Ireland centuries ago.

Dr. Krystal Harris, forced into a world she never knew existed, must face up to her own abusive past to learn if the feelings she's developing for her kidnapper are real-or just a warped, supernatural kind of Stockholm Syndrome in which she's allowing herself to become a victim yet again.

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Book Depository

Excerpt:

Krystal Harris pulled to the shoulder of the two-lane road-highway was too grand a word-and punched the button to turn on the old green Corolla's dome light. She counted to five before thwacking it with the heel of her palm, and a dim light blinked as if considering her demand. It stayed on-this time.

The car was a dinosaur, but it was a paid-for dinosaur.

She dug a folded Alabama road map from beneath her briefcase on the passenger seat, smoothing the creases to make sure she hadn't driven past Penton, which she suspected was no more than a wide spot on a narrow road. She didn't want to get lost out here in the boonies.

Yep, County Road 70. The highway to Penton just looked like the express lane to nowhere.

A gust of wind rocked the car, sending icy air around the loose door seals. Maybe the chill of this night was an omen that she should take this job if they offered it, just so she could buy a more respectable form of transportation. Still, doubts nagged at her. What kind of clinic conducted a job interview at nine p.m.? She should never have agreed to it, but the Penton Clinic administrator had waved big bucks in front of her huge college and med school debts, and she'd trotted after them like a donkey after a carrot.

"You had the goody-two-shoes idea of practicing rural medicine, plus you're already here," she chided herself, clicking off the overhead and pulling back onto the road. "And you've gotta admit, this is rural."

Another omen, and not a good one: she was talking to herself. Out loud.

A couple of miles later, her headlights illuminated a battered wooden sign covered in peeling paint: Welcome to Penton, Alabama. Founded 1890. Population 3,275.

Twenty years ago, maybe. Krys had done her Penton homework, and that was the boomtown population, when the mammoth East Alabama Mill still churned out threads and batting. It had wheezed its final belch a decade ago, and the town had suffered a slow death by attrition even before the pandemic. The most recent listing Krys found online estimated a population of three hundred. She was surprised they could afford to hire a doctor, much less pay a more-than-competitive wage.

But this was what she wanted, right? A place to practice medicine and be her own boss, to find a community where she could belong? After growing up in Birmingham-the wrong side of Birmingham-she hated the grime and crowds and noise of the city.

Lost in thought as she approached the outskirts of town, she thought she saw an animal in the road-a deer or a bear, maybe-God only knew what wildlife lived out here. But it was a man. He wore a long coat that flapped in the wind and was backlit by a lone streetlight in front of an abandoned convenience store. She'd have blown past him if he hadn't moved into the middle of the road when the glare of her headlights hit him like a spotlight.

He stood with his hands in his pockets, feet planted apart, watching calmly as she floored the brakes. The Corolla's old tires squealed, stinking up the air with the smell of hot rubber and stressed brakes.

Good Lord. Was he nuts?

She got the car stopped and took a deep breath, hands frozen to the wheel, her muscles jittery from the aftershock. The man walked around and tapped on her driver's side window, motioning for her to lower it.

Krys's foot hovered over the accelerator, indecisive. Should she drive on and get the hell out of here?

No, by God, she should not. She'd at least lower the window enough to tell the jerk how close he'd come to ending his life as a hood ornament on a green Toyota Dinosaur.

He held up his empty hands in a gesture of peace. Right. Like he was going to hold up a sign that said Beware of Murderous Backwoods Whack Job.

She snaked her right hand to her purse in the passenger seat, wrapped cold fingers around the handle of a small pistol, and slipped it into the pocket of her suede jacket-after she was sure the man had seen it. The .38 Smith & Wesson snub-nose was her security blanket, and she knew how to use it.

His only reaction to the gun was a raised eyebrow. "I have a man injured here." His voice was deep and melodic, and he had a trace of an accent, as if he'd grown up not speaking English but had been around a few too many Southerners. "You the doctor coming to Penton for the interview?"

She lowered her window an inch and stared as he knelt next to the driver's side door, putting his face at eye level. And damned if it wasn't one of the most beautiful faces she'd seen since…maybe ever.

He'd pulled his dark hair into a short ponytail except for one wavy strand that had pulled loose and blew against his cheek. The streetlight cast enough illumination for her to see the dark lashes fringing blue eyes that reminded her not so much of summer skies or robin's eggs but of the richness of an arctic sea flowing over darker depths. They appeared to lighten as he studied her with an intensity that almost robbed her lungs of air. He had a strong jaw, full lips, and a slight cleft in his chin.

If he was a serial killer, he was at least a pretty one.

He cleared his throat. "Are you Dr. Harris?"

Krys caught her breath. Good Lord, what was wrong with her? She'd been practically drooling through a half-open window as though he were Adonis personified. He could be Charles Manson's separated-at-birth, unidentical twin.

Except he knew her name.

Author Interview:

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write the Penton Legacy series?

Susannah Sandlin: Well, I had this raging 103-degree fever and…seriously! Don't laugh. Two or three years ago, when the H1N1 virus was starting to make the rounds and there still wasn't a vaccine for it, I got it. And While I was sick, I started thinking about pandemics and the ways a vaccine that changed human blood chemistry might impact a vampire. About the same time there was a big kidnapping case on the news and I started to thinking about Stockholm Syndrome. Somehow, it all ended up as a paranormal romance series!

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Susannah Sandlin: I decided I wanted to be a journalist when I was a senior in high school. Up until then I either wanted to be a doctor or an artist-go figure. I could draw a little and I was good in math and science. But I've worked in feature writing and editing ever since. I only began writing fiction about five years ago, but I've always been in love with language.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Susannah Sandlin: I grew up in a really small town in Alabama, and I remember being in our tiny town library at age five or so, "reading" Beatrice Potter books. I think I'd read everything in the library-including some things I had no business reading-by the time I got out of elementary school. Somehow, at age eight or nine, most of the nuances of Gone with the Wind flew right over my head…you know, like the plot!

The Avid Reader: How cool is this? I am a Bama Girl myself.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Susannah Sandlin: I'm a pretty democratic reader. I read a fair amount in my genres of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, but I also historical or sci fi or thriller. I read a lot of nonfiction because I'm always researching something for my writing. The only genres I tend to dislike are epic fantasy and space opera. Although I have threatened to read Game of Thrones.

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Susannah Sandlin: Like, ever? Yikes. Ah………I usually say Stephen King's The Stand, because it's the first book I remember obsessing over for weeks on end. But I also loved some of the early big family sagas of Susan Howatch.

The Avid Reader: Stephen King's The Stand is my favorite book as well. I own almost all of his books.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Susannah Sandlin: I'll trot out Stephen King again. I think he's a masterful storyteller, whether or not you like horror or psychological suspense. He's great at creating deep characters and building suspense until you can't put the book down.

The Avid Reader: Stephen King has been my favorite writer since high school. I know what your saying about him building suspense. Stephen actually has you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what is happening. And just when you have almost given up on finding out what happens next bam he slams you in the face with it.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Susannah Sandlin: Am I kind of, like, immortal when I time-travel? Because where I'd really like to go would be a scary place-the little corner of Alabama where I grew up, at the time of the Civil War. My great-great-great grandfather, Daniel, sent three sons to fight in the Union cavalry…yes, that's right…the UNION cavalry. That's always fascinated me, and I was always proud that he stood up for what he believed in. All three sons died (if my gg-grandfather hadn't only been ten, he'd probably have gone too and I wouldn't be here). Daniel spent the last couple of years of the war hiding out because his Confederate neighbors wanted to hang him. I'd like to meet the stubborn old cuss.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Susannah Sandlin: The first draft is usually painful, but every book is different. I had fits with Redemption, the first Penton book, but Absolution was a breeze. It practically wrote itself. Omega was a nightmare until I finally cracked open the shell of my hero and was able to get inside his head.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Susannah Sandlin: I am a dog lover! I have two seniors right now. Shane, the Irish terrier, was a terror when she was younger, but she's 15 now and has slowed down. Tanker, the Black Chow-Golden Retriever mix, is 14 and deaf as a fence post. He barks all the time because since he can't hear himself, he seems to think I can't hear him either. He's very wrong.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for," favorite food/foods to eat?

Susannah Sandlin: OMG. The Shrimp and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake from Jacques-Imo's, my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I lived there for almost 15 years and still consider it my hometown. I know it sounds strange, but trust me. It is absolutely to die for. I'm going to New Orleans in September and I'm already daydreaming about it!

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Susannah Sandlin: Be prepared to work hard. I always tell people that there are a lot of other authors who outsell me, but there's no one else that outworks me. If you want to make a career of this, it takes a lot of work. A touch of OCD doesn't hurt!

Susannah Sandlin: Thanks for having me here, Nancy! I'd like to offer a giveaway of one of the Penton novels or the newest standalone, Storm Force, in choice of print or digital-or an author swag bag if the winner already has read the books! Just tell me your pets' names, if you have some.

The Avid Reader: Of course Susannah, a giveaway is great. We all love giveaways right? So, what do you say we have everyone who wants to enter leave a comment with their pets names?

Blurb:

Lydia Martin has always had dreams, the weirdest and hottest of them all involving a faceless, muscle-bound man that speaks like sin and smells like sex. Like any sane person, she always put the dreams down to an overactive imagination, coupled with a higher than average libido.

One night, however, instead of their usual, erotic encounters, she finds him in her dream, chained to a wall and screaming in pain. Not only that, but she thinks she recognises the building he's being held captive in as one that's just a few streets away.

Awaking with an irrepressible need to save her fantasy lover, Lydia decides to humour her dream self and head on over to where she thinks he's imprisoned.

What unfolds is beyond even her wildest imaginings, as she's sucked into a dangerous and deadly world she never knew existed ... and it turns out that the man who inhabits her darkest fantasies, isn't the only one that needs releasing.

Word count: over 34,000 words This is an adult paranormal fantasy novella containing scenes of explicit sexual content and some violence, entwined with romantic elements.

Excerpt from Releasing The wolf:

He tried to open his eyes, although the bruising around them didn't make it easy.

Was it morning or night?

He'd dreamt again - of her. He knew that he'd dreamt, but it was always dark in here, and the minutes had become hours; the days … weeks?

He hadn't a clue how long he'd been captive for.

Straining against large, silver chains entwined around the entire length of both arms, he winced, then grunted.

His ears pricked to listen for sound. Nothing shifted in the room.

Good, he was alone.

Although his arms felt like the skin had been peeled from them … slowly.

Fucking silver.

He swallowed, and his throat felt as dry as sandpaper.

They were going to leave him like this to die. His time was up anyway.

Excerpt:

Raphael, however, was braver than most. Alizel crouched behind the tree as he saw him approaching Luciferel slowly from behind, his soft footfalls beating a calm rhythm. Rafael had broad, even shoulders and was never in a hurry. Raphael, Alizel imagined, was a healer, although he may not have been aware of it at the time, since angels were never "injured" or in need of being healed. They were either perfectly healthy or in the Containment. Neither situation could be made better by anyone else's help. The concepts of destruction and healing were only just beginning to dawn on them. Still, Raphael's gentleness always made Alizel and the other Unranked feel safe in his presence, and he seemed to have a gift for fixing whatever troubled angels' hearts. Alizel watched anxiously.
Luciferel was still hunched over the rail that guarded the Portal, and didn't notice the other angel's approach. Rafael stood there for a moment as if contemplating what to say, and then placed a firm hand on Luciferel's shoulder.
Luciferel whipped his head around, fear shining in his eyes. His body relaxed slightly in Rafael's presence but his expression was still guarded. Rafael's countenance was serene but troubled. He was one of the few who could take in the full pain of another and still exude a soothing aura to those around him. Alizel wondered how much pain he had already absorbed from the rest of the angels…and how much more he would have to before this was all over.
Rafael just looked at his fellow Seraph, as if trying to probe the depths of Luciferel's soul. He didn't speak for several minutes, until Luciferel finally met his gaze. Rafael didn't flinch, but the lines around his eyes drew downwards.
"What has happened to you?" Rafael seemed to already know, but asked his question more to see if Luciferel himself understood.
"I am becoming stronger," he said, gasping for breath. If it weren't for the seriousness of the situation, Alizel would have almost thought it to be a joke.
Rafael swept his soft brown eyes over Luciferel's body and then raised his eyebrows. "You have rejected God's power that sustains us. Your body is falling apart. If you do not let Him flow through you again, you will surely perish."
"I will not die. I have found another power to sustain me."
The shock of his words made Rafael look on in confusion. Alizel's eyes narrowed as he listened. Was Luciferel bluffing? He certainly didn't seem to be sustained.
"All this time," Luciferel continued, each word labored, "we thought that was the only way that we could live. Yet only after blocking that vile substance did I find my own true power."
"This power you speak of has left your body broken and damaged. This internal power cannot compete with God," Raphael countered.
"It is still dormant, unused." Luciferel waited to catch his breath before speaking more. "I am the first one to find this fiery power within me. I surely meant to perish. Why would I want to continue in a world where I must bow down to a Son of Mud? But my anger, my displeasure, my feelings against the current situation sustained my body. As these feelings grow stronger, so does my body. I just do not know how to channel this power yet."
"You never doubted the Lord before. You must come back and let your body receive the Father again. You can still be bright!"
Alizel could tell Rafael's mind was working furiously, probing to find a crack in the wall of resentment Luciferel had erected around himself.
"I was a fool then, surely. I did not understand that God only meant to betray us." The more Luciferel talked, the stronger he seemed to become.
"There are uncertain times ahead, to be sure. But that is all the more reason we need you with us, as our leader." Rafael was appealing to Luciferel's sense of vanity now. "No one was able to lead as well as you or to command as much respect as you. What will we do without you?"
"Honestly?" Luciferel looked at him, but from Rafael's expression it was obvious he didn't see the same Luciferel looking back at him. "Honestly, I don't care."
Luciferel got up to leave. His gait was still hobbling, but he could walk away on his own. His words trailed after him. "Come find me if you come to your senses. Come find me if you want to be stronger."

My Review:
I was given a free copy of the book for my honest opinion.

Alizel's Song is the telling of one man's version of the how the universe was created and interpretation of the bible. How the war in Heaven was started and who started it and why. It tells of all the Angles of who they were and what their jobs and place were. There were only a few of the Angels who knew what their jobs were and what their purpose was. The highest ranking angels were the Seraphim known as the "flaming ones". They were a secretive and powerful group of angels whom no one ever saw much of. They kept to themselves never socializing with the other angels. There was no way to mistake them for any other angel because they wore platinum sashes with a crimson "S". The Seraphim was led by Luciferel. They never held an election that would make him the leader. It just seemed like the right thing to do. It just felt like that was his job and all the angels followed his command without question.

The Cherubim were next in line to the Seraphim. It was said that they had the most knowledge and that they completely knew the mind of God. If any of the angels ever wanted to know anything the Cherubim were the ones to go to that is if they would see you. I kind of got the feeling that the Cherubim thought they were above all the other angels because they had more knowledge than anyone else. They didn't have time for the other angels. They were supposedly so smart that they probably couldn't understand the other angels and just thought they were speaking gibberish most of the time or it may have just seemed that way to them. They were easy to recognize by their white sashes with a golden "C" on it and it was said that these angels had four faces and wings.

Next in line were the Thrones there were only twelve of them. It had been said that the Thrones were far above the other angels and had a special task but no one knew what this task was and it was not because of not asking. The Thrones wore earthly brown sashes with a green "T" and they served as instructors to the other angels.

Next in line were the Virtues they were always running around trying to figure out what their job was. They wore golden sashes with a white "V".

Next in line were the Powers. They were the gatekeepers and Azazel was their chief. They wore golden armor and red sashes.

Next in line were the Principalities their job was to watch over a hundred angels. They wore white sashes with a blue "P".

Next are the Archangels who watched over ten angels along with the Unranked. They wore white sashes with a green letter "A".

Next in line were the Unranked whom most didn't know what their job was or what their purpose was. If any of the higher ranking angels knew they weren't telling.

Angels didn't have to worry about anything like food, water or shelter. All of their needs were taken care of by the radiant energy of the Father. They never had to worry about sleeping, eating or diseases because they shared everything. Angels had no concept of time. If they sat down to look at a flower to watch it grow or just to admire its beauty they could have been there for a couple of minutes or a thousand years they didn't know. They had been doing the same things for fifteen billion earth years.

Angels were not allowed to leave Heaven. They had to stay in their realm. Making sure that this happened was part of the Powers job watching the boarders of Heaven making sure no one got in or out. One day the angels got worried that with God building the universe that there would be others from the planets that he was creating would try to get into Heaven or maybe even someone from the inside would attack them. Or what if an angel got by them and went to earth to stop God's plan. Angels were always trying to get by them to go make their own mark in the world. Then the angels got this idea to ask God to make them a weapon so they could learn to use it and defend their selves.

Is this why the war started? Verin thinks God doesn't know what he is doing that is the reason it is taking him so long to create the world or the earth. Verin thinks someone else needs to step in and take over. That maybe someone else knows what to do. God created the entire world but he doesn't know what to do with it now that he has created it. The angels couldn't create the world because they didn't exist. Who created or made God? How did he come into existence? God created the angels, humans and what about the other planets or the rest of the universe? He created angels for Heaven and humans for earth right? So what about the rest of the universe? Are there other life form created in God's image? God, Angels and humans all supposedly have a head, two arms and two legs although they look different and angels have wings and humans do not. So what lives in the rest of the universe? Did God just create other planets because he was bored without any purpose to it at all? Why put life created in his image on one planet and not put life created in his image on the other planets. Why create them if not for the same purpose?

Description:

Ariel is a High Witch, one of the most powerful witches in the world. There are only three like her in existence. She finally learns who she is, but immediately has to flee from a malicious warlock, out to claim her for his own. With Brayden, her new love by her side, she attempts to outwit the warlock, and the High Witch who protects him. But what will she do if she has to go through 'The Test'?

Excerpt:

They traveled for a few more days, stopping one afternoon at an empty field to rest for lunch. Ariel had been practicing every day, Brayden astonished at how much she'd improved. They sat eating under a tree in the cold day, sunlight shining through the clouds. They didn't speak, both very tired from all the traveling. Ariel finally stood up, saying she needed to work on her magic some more.

"Try to focus on nature, like we discussed," Brayden said. "Remember, you can draw from every source of magic there is, from wherever there's power. You're doing so well - try to master this now."

Ariel nodded, then walked several paces away to the center of the field, standing in a large expanse of grass. Brayden watched her from where he sat, thinking she looked so beautiful. She looked at him for a moment, then shut her eyes.

She held out her arms, standing silently for a long while, her hair slightly blowing around her in the breeze. She remained still for several more moments, then gradually the wind grew stronger. Ariel's hair flowed behind her, her skirt twirling around her ankles. Leaves swirled around her; a howling sound was in the air. The wind was focused on her, turning around her as she stood on the spot, as if she was at the center of a tornado. Flashes of lightning cut through the sky. A white glow illuminated her skin.

The clouds above them became grey and dark. Ariel stood, frozen, at the center of the tempest. The wind swirled around her, howling, screaming. She maintained control of the storm. Thunder crashed above them, interspersed with more lightning. Brayden shivered in the now freezing temperature. Ariel didn't move. The air around them screamed, building until it erupted in a thundering cry. Ariel held her face up to the sky, the elements under her control.

Finally, she lowered her arms. The sounds began to fade. The storm began to dissipate. Gradually the wind died down, the clouds became lighter and grew apart, the thunder and lightning dissolved. Eventually, things were as they were. Ariel looked over at Brayden, the faint white light still touching her skin. He rose and slowly approached her. He stood before her in amazement.

"That..." he began, then had to clear his throat. He was still stunned. "That was astonishing. Ariel, you're amazing. I don't know how you did that."

She smiled at him, the glow around her fading, her skin returning to normal. Brayden looked around them, wanting to capture this moment; take advantage of her control of her powers.

"Try to lift one of those rocks," he said, pointing to a small pile of rocks in the distance, similar to the pile that had been in the yard at the inn.

Ariel turned to them, and held out one arm. She moved one of her fingers, and a grey, fist-sized rock rose from the pile, hovering in the air. She moved her fingers again, then the other rocks joined the first, delicately balanced at head height, floating as if they were on water, as light as leaves. Ariel flattened her hand, and the rocks gracefully dropped back down to the ground. She turned to look at Brayden. She smiled.

"It's easy, now," she said. Brayden moved up to her and drew her into his arms.

"You're wonderful," he breathed, embracing her, holding her close. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and Brayden smoothed his hand over her hair. He couldn't believe how amazing she was. He held onto her, mesmerized by her. His body was tingling just holding her. He felt her tremble.

"I hope I can save us," she said, her breath against his neck. He couldn't take it any more. He cupped her chin in his hand and kissed her, hungrily moving his mouth over hers, his other hand clutching her hair. She held onto him and he pressed her against him, unable to control his feelings for her. He groaned, loving how she tasted, the feel of her lips, the touch of her tongue moving with his. They clung to each other, unaware of anything around them. He couldn't believe how good it felt. He began kissing her neck, and she moaned in his arms. His body was on fire for her.

"Oh, Ariel," he breathed, wishing more than anything they were somewhere private. He was desperate for her. He kissed her lips again, then held her to him, his heart racing. She put her arms around his neck, and gently nibbled his ear. He couldn't breathe.

"We should get moving," he said, barely remembering his own name. "We can't...I mean...we have to...oh, Ariel, you have to stop that."

She laughed, stepping back a little from him. He gazed at her, consumed with thoughts of her. She looked back at him, a mischievous smile touching her lips. Oh, how he loved her.

"Not here, not when we've got a madman after us," he said, kissing her roughly then taking her hand, leading her back to their things. She laughed again. He was addicted to her. Her laugh, her touch, her beauty - but, really, her. Her heart. Her soul. He wanted to love her for the rest of his life. To protect her. To always be with her. He wouldn't be able to stand it if he lost her. He would do anything to keep them together.

My Review:

I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Brayden works at an inn and has been having dreams about a young woman. He has been having these dreams every single night for the last thirty days. For the last thirty nights he has woken up during the middle of the night because of the dreams. In his dreams he is kissing this woman and she keeps telling him to find her. The human body can only take so much from stress and from waking up every night before it starts to have an effect. Brayden is starting to have problems doing his job at the inn and he can't afford to lose his job.

Ariel shows up at the inn one day, she checks in and stays in her room. She is very shy and afraid to be around other people. She is afraid of the bad things that might happen. Brayden sees Ariel and all he wants to do is keep her safe. He doesn't realize at first that Ariel is the girl in his dreams. Brayden starts falling in love with her before he realizes who she is. Brayden takes food to Ariel in her room when he finds out that she is not coming down to the dining room to eat. He sees Ariel using her magic one day and knows right away that she is a High Witch. A High Witch has the strongest powers in the world. Ariel didn't know that she was a High Witch until Brayden told her himself. Brayden knew the moment he saw her use her powers what she was. Ariel doesn't know much about her powers or how to use them. But Brayden knows a little because his mother is a witch also. Brayden and Ariel fall in love while he is trying to help her control her powers and help her figure out how to use them properly.

Brayden and Ariel have to go on the run because of what Ariel is and because they have fallen in love with each other. They have to hide from this warlock who wants Ariel for his own. Both of their lives depend on this warlock not catching them. They both believe that because of their love for each other that they will survive and they will defeat this warlock.

Warning: while reading the High Witch it is very possible that you may need a couple of tissues or a box. My advice is grab a box and a glass of ice tea or your favorite drink before beginning the High Witch because you will probably need both. You are more than likely going to fall in love with Brayden and Ariel yourself and feel for both of them. You are probably going to be feeling what they are feeling. Now that is what I call a good book when you feel what the characters feel.

Promo Tour: Faelon by AJ Kelton

Faelon
by AJ Kelton

About The Author:

AJ Kelton are the dynamic writing team of Angel and Jordan. The couple met online several years ago on an Alexander fan site and have been friends ever since. Angel soon found that Jordan had a flare for storytelling with several half-finished stories on her computer. Angel encouraged Jordan to finish the stories and with help in creative description she decided to send the stories off to MLR press. They were both shocked and excited when they got the news that Faelon was accepted for publication. While Jordan may have a flare for storytelling she doesn't enjoy the smaller details in getting a story ready for publication. That is where Angel comes in; she spends countless hours getting the story ready after line edits, going over each line in proofing and formatting, making decisions such as covers and fonts, all things that Jordan just has problems focusing on.

Angel is always on the lookout for her perfect mate, a cross between Ethan from Under the Australian Sky and Evan from Marco. Until Mr. Perfect appears at her door, or in front of her booth wanting an autograph she loves to read, take pictures and attend concerts of all kinds. She loves all things 80's. Angel lives in Texas with her two dogs, Daisy a beagle who she insists is nothing like snoopy and her Chihuahua Bonita.

When not writing Jordan loves to read anything from Amish romance to the dark taboo books of fiction both M/M and Het. She is a very avid reader, except when writing because she doesn't want to be influenced by what she is reading. Jordan loves to travel and often her latest vacation spots show up in his books. While Jordan is always looking for that perfect place to live at the moment she can be found in Kansas.

Both writers have solo projects coming out in the future, Angel with Misunderstandings under the name Angel Rothamel. Jordan with Legion under the name Rider Jacobs.

Both authors would love to hear from you. You can contact them via their web page AJKelton@AJKelton.com. You can also find them on Facebook under both AJ Kelton, Angel Rothamel and Rider Jacobs.

Book Description:

Who knew that loving a Nephilim could be so dangerous. Faelon, a 3000-year-old nephilim, fleeing a demonic master, found safety with the church. He has repaid their kindness by translating various artifacts. Father Donovan has watched as Faelon became a recluse, fearing those who would harm him. Jax, wanting a change, moves to Salem, MA where he finds work as a churches security guard. Not believing that Faelon is a nephilim, he is forced to confront his own beliefs in the supernatural. Can he learn to accept Faelon, and be the master he requires? Or lose the man he loves to the demons who would harm him.

Excerpts:

*NOTE* Some Graphic Language

"I have been called many names in my life, but I don't think 'crazy-ass' was one of them." The man smiled at him.
"You still haven't answered my question." Jax pulled out his cell phone. "You have exactly thirty seconds to tell me who you are and why you are here, or you'll be explaining it to the police."
The other man pushed off from the door and sauntered toward Jax. "There is no need to get the police involved. My name is Faelon, and I live in the basement where I happen to be cataloguing all those important items and translating those dusty old books into English. It isn't the most exciting job in the world, but, hell, it keeps me a bit busy, and at this moment I find I'm enjoying it."
"You live in the basement?" Father Donavan mentioned that Faelon worked late at night, but he didn't mention that the man actually lived down there. "Father Donavan didn't mention that you lived in the basement."
Faelon shoved his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket as he started toward the side door. "Yes, I have a small studio apartment down there. It's why no one is allowed to enter the area without my express invitation. Ask Father Donavan tomorrow if you don't believe me. I'm going out, grabbing a bite to eat, and maybe I'll watch the water for a while. Tell me, is it warm out? Are the tourists here yet?"
Jax shrugged his shoulder. "It was a nice day for October and the tourists are always here, aren't they? Especially this time of year?"
"I find that they are, yes. As to why they would come to this place when there are so many others across this nation that hold just as much mysticism at a warmer temperature is beyond me. Until tomorrow, Mr. Security Guard," he said as he started walking again.
"Jax."
"Jax?" Faelon turned his head in inquiry.
"My name, it's Jax. At least that is what everyone calls me. It's short for J-Jackson," he stammered. He had no idea why he was rambling, other than the fact that Faelon was sexy as hell, and he wanted to speak to him just a little longer. There was something about the soft musical quality of his voice with just a trace of an accent that made Jax want to keep him talking.
Faelon gave a slight smile, and for a brief moment, Jax thought he had to be the hottest man alive. "Until tomorrow then, Jax."
Jax watched him walk out the door. Giving himself a brief mental shake, he breathed in deeply to clear his head. He had never been so instantly attracted to someone before. When Father Donavan had told him about a researcher, but he'd never pictured a young man with skin-tight leather pants, a black biker jacket, and lips that looked like they would be right at home wrapped around a cock.
