Author: J. Meyers

Series: Intangible #2

Format: Ebook

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Imaginable

Twins Sera and Luke Raine’s abilities are growing. Sera is healing vampires now, making them human again. And, at times, Luke can actually change the future he Sees.

But Sera’s healing has dangerous consequences, and though Luke is altering the outcome of more visions, he can’t control them yet.

Now Sera is in danger as the dark creatures of the Realm seek to use her. As Luke struggles to master his gift in order to save his sister, he discovers even more about his powers.

And what he learns just may put him in greater danger than Sera has ever been.

MY REVIEW
Imaginable

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Sera found out in Intangible that she could heal vampires. By healing vampires I mean making them human again. Sera is so nice and sweet and always wanting to help someone to make them better. She has a very hard time turning anyone down when they come to her and asks for her help and wants her to heal them. When a lot of vampires start going to Sera and ask her to make them human again gets Sera in trouble with the main top dog vampire who forbids her to turn anymore vampires. This is really upsets Sera her heart is so big she wants to help everyone.

After Sera is forbidden to heal vampires she is kidnapped when Fey makes her start turning them away. Fey is not a bad person she is just trying to help Sera to stay safe. Fey has been with Sera and Luke all their lives. Fey made a promise when Sera and Luke were babies to be their protector. She will do anything to keep them safe. Fey, Sera and Luke have all three have been best friends for most of their lives. Luke has more feelings for Fey than just friendship. Luke has fallen in love with Fey but doesn't think that they can ever be together because of Fey's boyfriend Thor.

Sera and Jonas seem to have more feelings for each other than she friendship also. But of course neither one seems to want to act on it. Jonas wants and tries his best to take care of Sera as well. He will fight anyone including his vampires and other vampires to keep her safe. I really like Jonas and hope that there is another book where Jonas and Sera becomes an item. I hope that Fey and Luke also get together as well.

Luke and Sera are very close as twins go. They care and love each other very much and will do anything for the other one even if it means their own life. They are always arguing back and forth in a joking manner. I love this banter that goes on between the two of them. Luke is learning that his visions of seeing the future are stronger than he knew but is still learning how to use them. He wants to know how to use them now and gets so very upset when he is practicing and nothing happens. He needs to find Sera when she is kidnapped before it is too late.

Sera is very lucky to have friends that care so much about her to put their own lives in danger to save her. But of course Sera is a good person and would do the same thing for them. They are a lot of people who want Sera for her healing powers. There are people who would blackmail her or any of her friends to have access to her healing powers.

I Love the Intangible series and am very grateful to the author J Meyers for letting me read them. If you have not read them then I suggest you run to your nearest store or computer and a pick up a copy of the whole series, including Jonas' story Indomitable to learn more about him and his life. What kind of person or vampire he is. I sure hope that J plans on writing more about Sera, Luke, Jonas and Fey. Will Sera and Jonas become a couple? Will Luke and Fey? These four characters are my favorite people in the whole series. I want to read more NOW!! Just a subtle hint there.

Fromat: Kindle Edition

Pages: 248

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Guardian of Atlantis

Sixteen-year-old Raven Weir has a somewhat normal life until she receives a mysterious necklace…a necklace others are willing to kill her to get because it contains the key codes to Atlantis. Now she finds she’s the only one standing between Atlantis and those who want to use the power hidden there to take over the world.

And Zeus is at the head of that line.

On top of worrying about social acceptance at school, Raven has to get control of her growing powers before she harms someone. And it doesn’t help that the alpha Hellhound at school is attracted to her while members of his pack are trying to kill her. And then there’s the whole biological parent issue. Finding out you’re adopted is huge, but discovering you’re actually the daughter of Medusa and Poseidon will definitely cause problems.

Will Raven find the inner strength she needs to survive?

Will she be able to protect Atlantis?

MY REVIEW

Guardian of Atlantis

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Raven Weir receives a necklace for her sixteenth birthday. This necklace contains the key codes to Atlantis. A lot of people want this necklace for the power that it holds and they will kill to get it. Raven finds herself in fights with people that she didn't know necklace. Raven is a girl that can hold her own in a fight but sometimes she does need a little help. She has a mouth with a lot of sarcasm and she lets the witty comments fly. She always has something to come back with no matter what anyone says to her.

Raven has changed schools more times than she cares to remember. And on top of everything else she has to start a new school on her birthday no less. The first day of school is always hard but a new school and meeting new people is even worse. She tries to talk her mom into letting her stay at home but mom says no, of course. No one at her new school seems to like her. Especially the Hellhounds who all want to kill her except their alpha, Ethan who is attracted to her.

Raven finds out that she is adopted which upsets her and kind of makes her mad. Raven wants to know who her mother or the person that had raised her is. Who are her biological parents? Why has her mother kept secrets from her? She finds out that she has these powers and she doesn't know how to handle them. She has to figure out real quick how to handle her powers if she wants to stay alive.

I would like to thank the author Annie Rachel Cole for giving me the opportunity to read Guardian of Atlantis. I really liked Guardian of Atlantis it is a very good book. I liked Raven with her witty comments and how she always had some kind of remark to come back with and she was real quick with it too she never hesitated one little bit. There were times while reading Guardian of Atlantis that Raven had me laughing with her come backs. But then there were times where I felt real bad for and just wanted to help her.

If you have not read Guardian of Atlantis then I highly recommend that you do. If you like reading and learning about Greek Gods then you will love Guardian of Atlantis I did. I have not read a lot of books about Geek Gods but I do find them very interesting and wished I would take the time to read and learn more about them. I can't wait to read Wrath of Hades book #2 of The Children of Atlantis series.

Review: The Breeders By Katie French

The Breeders

Title: The Breeders

Author:

Published: August 1st 2012

Fromat: Kindle Edition

Pages: 276

BOOK DESCRIPTION

The Breeders

Sixteen-year-old Riley Meemick is one of the world's last free girls. When Riley was born, her mother escaped the Breeders, the group of doctors using cruel experiments to bolster the dwindling human race. Her parents do everything possible to keep her from their clutches-- moving from one desolate farm after another to escape the Breeders' long reach. The Breeders control everything- the local war lords, the remaining factories, the fuel. They have unchecked power in this lawless society. And they're hunting Riley.

When the local Sheriff abducts the adult members of her family and hands her mother over to the Breeders, Riley and her eight-year-old brother, Ethan, hiding in a shelter, are left to starve. Then Clay arrives, the handsome gunslinger who seems determined to help to make up for past sins. The problem is Clay thinks Riley is a bender-- a genderless mutation, neither male nor female. As Riley's affection for Clay grows she wonders can she trust Clay with her secret and risk her freedom?

The three embark on a journey across the scarred remains of New Mexico-- escaping the Riders who use human sacrifice to appease their Good Mother, various men scrambling for luck, and a deranged lone survivor of a plague. When Riley is shot and forced into the Breeder's hospital, she learns the horrible fate of her mother—a fate she'll share unless she can find a way out.

MY REVIEW

The Breeders

Riley Meemick is a sixteen year old girl who lives in a world that is almost extinct of females. Something happened a long time ago that caused very few females to be born. Almost all of the babies that are being born are male. Riley's family had moved from town to town her entire life. Riley always dresses as a boy. If the breeders ever found out that she was a girl they would take her away to live in a hospital. This hospital is where they take all the females if they are of breeding age.

The people who work at the hospital will take girls anyway they can get them. They don't care if they are taken against their will or not. All they want with them is to impregnate them and once the baby is born they take it away from the mother and then the process is started all over again and again until they are past the breeding stage. When the females become too old to have babies they are then put in the nursery to take care of all the babies that are born.

Riley's step-father, Arn is the only one that ever goes into town to trade for food and supplies that they need. One day Arn goes into town for supplies but he never returns. Riley, her mother, her aunt and eight year old brother are very upset and have no idea what to do. Riley knows that someone will eventually have to do something if he doesn't come back. They will run out of supplies and food. Riley decides that she is going into town to find out what happen to Arn. She doesn't tell her mother or aunt because she knows they will try and stop her.

Riley makes it to town and finds Arn has been arrested. She gets him out of jail with the help of the sheriff's son, Clay. No one figures out that Reily is a girl they all think that she is a bender. I know you are probably asking yourself now what a bender is? Well a bender is someone who is neither male nor female.

Riley and Arn make it back home without any problems but then sometime later the breeders show up at their home looking for females. Riley's family sends her and Ethan, her little brother to the cellar to hide. Riley tries to get out but Clay sees her and locks them in. When they finally get out the breeders have left and their parents and aunt are nowhere to be seen. The breeders took her mother and Riley is determined to find her and bring her back.

Riley sets on a dangerous journey to find her mother. She doesn't trust anyone because if they find out she is a girl they will sell her to the highest bidder who will then take her to the hospital where they she will become a breeder. She does learn to trust Clay as much as she can or has too. Clay turns out not to be the person Riley thought he was. She thinks he is just like everyone else and will turn her in at the right time and place. But she finds out later that this is not the case. Clay knows what the breeders are doing to all the female is wrong. Clay learns to care a lot for Riley and Ethan and will do anything to protect them. Riley soon finds out that his heart is in the right place.

Will Clay find out that Riley is a girl and not a bender? Will he still like her or will he be mad at her for not telling him the truth? Or will he be relieved that she is a girl? Will they find her mother? If they do find her can they save her? I know there are a lot of questions with no answers. To find out the answers you will just have to read The Breeders for yourself. If you are into dystopian novels then you are going to love The Breeders. I hope that Katie French has plans for a second book. I hope that she plans on writing more novels I would love to read more of her work.

They are alone and unprepared for their supernatural power. Joanna Easterhouse, a recovering drug addict, steps out of prison shortly after her mother's fatal accident. Halo of the Damned is a horrifying tale that weaves research together with suspenseful twists and turns

EXCERPT
Halo Of The Damned

The scroll's seal matched the box's lining. The color was foreign to Joanna, Kim, and Maria, but they agreed that indigo was the closest it came to any of the colors on the spectrum. The scroll was much thicker and softer than paper.

"This must be some kind of animal skin," remarked Joanna. The last item in the box was a piece of curved metal. The edges along its outer rim were ridged in an elaborate pattern. It looked like a cracked piece of a charger that once was part of an elegant set of china. Joanna tried to pick it up, but was mildly shocked. The electric charge did not stop her from trying to hold it. She picked it up a few more times. Once neutralized, she held it to the light in the room. "This looks like a piece of scrap metal. Obviously, it had major importance or Mom wouldn't have gone to such measures in hiding it. It's not gold, silver, or even platinum. But it's shiny, like tin. It's almost weightless. I thought it would be much heavier,"

Joanna analyzed after carefully studying it. "It's Grandma's. I've seen her wear it in my dreams. There's another piece that matches it and makes a circle. She puts it in the back of her head and it glows. She must have hid the other piece,"Maria said.

MY REVIEW
Halo Of The Damned

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Joanna Easterhouse is a recovering drug addict who has just gotten out of prison. Her mother died in an accident a few months ago. Joanna couldn't attend her mother's funeral. Joanna is afraid that she will not be able to find a job with just getting out of prison. She is very surprised to land a job right off the bat with an advertising company. She got the job through a girl she met at an AA meeting. Joanna was hired by Andel Talistokov owner and CEO of The Evil Empire.

Joanna and her sister Kim learn that they are nephilim, a mixed race of angels and humans. They also begin to unravel all of the secrets left behind by their mother. Their mother Lydia was part a religious group one of the oldest of all time called Yezidism. Yezidism is an ancient religion where everyone worships angels. But when she realizes what is going on what her mother has done Lydia stops going to their church and breaks all ties with her own family.

Andel Talistokov Joanna's boss is a very dark and evil angel who worships Satan. Andel is tired of having to follow Satan's rules and decides to break a few of them. He is supposed to be taking human souls for Satan but instead he takes their soul for himself. He wants his own army to start his own war. He also just wants to be in control and be the boss himself. Andel does not like being told what to do. Satan is angry because Andel has broken his commandants and orders him to return home.

Dina Rae is a great author. Halo of the Damned is not the first book written by her that I have read. I loved all of them. When I read the summaries I didn't think I would care for them much but I liked the plot and wanted to learn more. I was real surprised at how much I did like them and they have stuck with me. Now I want to read everything by Dina that I can get my hands on. Thanks Dina for being a great writer.

If you like dark, gory and bloody books then you are going to love Halo of the Damned. Do you like reading about angels, fallen angels, dark angels, demons and Satan? If you said yes then this is the book for you. Dina is not trying to push religion down your throat she is just trying to tell a story about how things may have happened or could happen.

"FRACTURED SOUL" EXCERPT:

After a minute I peeked around the trunk. Not far away a form moved in and out of the shadows. I couldn't sense if the thing was Vyken or human, but the moment it stepped into the light of the full moon, and I saw its face, I knew it was a Vyken. And by its slender form, I guessed a woman, but I couldn't tell by the face, which was missing half of its leathered skin. The other half was a rotted skull with a green, moss-like substance clinging to the cheekbone. The bone was a dirty yellow, the same color as her two rows of broken teeth.

She looked around and sniffed like she was searching for something. Her eyes jerked to the tree I was hiding behind. I ducked farther behind it and held my breath, my heart pounding and sweat breaking on my brow. Any other day I would've jumped at the chance to fight, but I was still too afraid of what Liam had told me and of what I already knew. Was I seeing my future?

"I smell you, Aura," the woman said. Her voice was deep and raspy.

I left my hiding spot and ran as fast as I could, crashing through the forest, arms outstretched. I pushed my already exhausted legs hard as I hurdled over, under, and around what felt like an Amazon jungle.

The Vyken chased after me, making a strange sound with her throat, almost like a pig grunting. I looked back at her and saw that the sound was from the wind moving between exposed cords on her neck where there was no skin. The sight and sound of her made me find a second wind, and I sped up.

Bursting through a tall bush, I moved to take a step but found nothing but air. I fell, more like bounced, end over end down a steep hill. I didn't stop moving until I landed in cold water. I sucked in air and quickly stood up. In front of me was a lake the size of a football field. Moonlight stretched across it like a lit-up road. I looked around. Other than a steep incline around the water's edge, most of which was covered in trees and bushes, there was no easy way around it.

I thought about climbing back up the hill, but even as I thought it, I heard the female Vyken coming closer. Having no other choice, I moved farther into the cold water until, once again, my foot found no ground beneath me. A sharp drop-off plunged me into the water. I gasped at the shock of it and swam backward to keep my eyes on the top of the ridge.

Just then the hunched-over female appeared. I took a deep breath and dipped beneath the water's surface. A few feet away I spotted a branch attached to a fallen tree lying at the bottom of the lake. I swam over and took hold of it to keep me from floating up.

Through the clear water, I could just barely make out the Vyken's form as she made her way down the incline. When she reached the water's edge, she paused and scanned the surface. After a moment, she turned and began to move back up the hill. Just in time too because my lungs were burning.

I was about to push up when all of a sudden she stopped and turned back around. I bit the insides of my cheek to keep from instinctively taking in a breath.

She returned to the water's edge, and what she did next had me frantically looking around for an escape. Her black boot slid onto the water's surface, and as soon as it touched it, the water beneath her foot turned to ice. Another step. More ice. An ice bridge was being created wherever she moved. Ten more steps and she'd be standing directly above me.

Although I was terrified, my lungs no longer cared. I let go of the tree branch and began to float up, but just as I was about to break the surface and gasp for air, something took hold of my ankle and pulled me down.

Fractured Soul Interview Questions - May

Interview: Today we would like to welcome May onto our blog. We're lucky we have her as her schedule just opened up and we jumped at the chance to interview her. Welcome May!

May: Thank you. It's great to be here. I'm glad I could make it.

Interviewer: We are too. So tell us, why have you been so busy?

May: I just started school at Lucent Academy and since I know nothing about my kind, I've had to work hard to learn as much as I can.

Interviewer: For those readers who don't know, May is a Fury. Can you tell us what that means?

May: It means I have the ability to create and manipulate fire.

Interviewer: Sounds cool.

May: It didn't used to be. You see I was adopted so when I first created fire I completely freaked out! I thought something was wrong with me.

Interviewer: I can see how that would be scary.

May: It was, but now that I know what I am and have Dr. Han as a mentor, I'm learning to control it. I love my ability now and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Interviewer: How is it working with Dr. Han? He seems kind of scary.

May: (laughs) He can be. He's all business and works me hard, but, honestly, that's exactly what I need. I want to be of some use to Auras, because, if Llona's right, which I think she is, some major crap is going to happen soon and the Auras aren't prepared to defend themselves.

Interviewer: Speaking of Llona, how is your friendship?

May: It's really good. I consider her more of a sister then friend, but I get the feeling she's hiding something from me.

Interviewer: Like what?

May: (shrugs) Not sure just yet, but I think something more happened with Mr. Steele then she's letting on, but I'm not too worried yet. I'm sure she'll tell me when she feels ready.

Interviewer: I bet she will. You guys are really close. So tell us, May. What do you like to do when you're not studying or making killer fireballs?

May: I used to snowboard a lot back in Utah. I miss that. I also love going to movies and I haven't watched TV in, like, forever.

Interviewer: What are some of your favorite TV shows?

May: I'm crazy about The Walking Dead! Zombies are the coolest. And I like watching Survivor. In fact, don't tell anyone this, but I'm thinking of trying out for next season.

Interviewer: (laughs) That would be interesting. You sure won't have any problems starting any fires!

May: I better not!

Interviewer: So tell us what your plans are after Lucent Academy?

May: I think I might try to find my birth parents. I've been thinking about them a lot. I mean, my ability had to come from somewhere, right? I just hope I'm not too disappointed by what I find.

Interviewer: I'm sure if you find them, they will be wonderful. Thank you for stopping by today May. We all really hope the best for you and have enjoyed reading about your adventures with Llona. Keep up the good fight!

May: Thanks for having me.

Blog Tour: The Black Song Inside By Carlyle Clark

The Black Song Inside
by Carlyle Clark

Author Bio:
Carlyle Clark was raised in Poway, a city just north of San Diego, but is now a proud Chicagolander working in the field of Corporate Security and writing crime fiction and fantasy. He has flailed ineffectually at performing the writers' requisite myriad of random jobs: pizza deliverer, curb address painter, sweatshop laborer, day laborer, night laborer, twilight laborer (of the fang-less variety), security guard, campus police, Gallup pollster, medical courier, vehicle procurer, and signature-for-petitions-getter.
He is a happily married man with two cats and a dog. He is also a martial arts enthusiast and a CrossFit endurer who enjoys fishing, sports, movies, TV series with continuing storylines, and of course, reading. Most inconsequentially, he holds the unrecognized distinction of being one of the few people in the world who have been paid to watch concrete dry in the dark. Tragically, that is a true statement.

Title: The Black Song Inside
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Publisher: Make Luck Press
Release Date: November 14th, 2012

Synopsis:

Shortlisted for the 2012 Faulkner-Wisdom Award

Newly engaged private investigators Atticus Wynn and Rosemary Sanchez have seen the dark and violent side of life. Atticus's dry wit is born of a traumatic childhood that's left him emotionally scarred and estranged from his homicide detective sister. The medals Rosemary earned during her tour of duty in Iraq are little reward for returning home to San Diego missing a leg and tormented by PTSD and her continuing failure to save her younger brother from his own violent nature. Still, nothing they've been through has prepared them for an explosive murder investigation that tests the couple's trust as they struggle to solve a case where the best result leaves them in prison or dead.

Atticus's manipulative and gorgeous ex-girlfriend, Claire, bursts back into their lives wielding a secret about Rosemary's family that she exploits to force the couple into investigating the execution-style slaying of her lover. The case thrusts Atticus and Rosemary headlong into the world of human trafficking and drug smuggling as well as rendering them pawns in Tijuana Cartel captain Armando Villanueva's bloody bid to take over the Cartel. Villanueva Machiavellian scheme sends one of his minions, Rosemary's own gangsta brother, after Atticus, and as if that weren't bad enough, Villanueva dispatches "The Priest", a former child soldier for a Colombian rebel group who is now a messianic mercenary whose religious psychosis has launched him on a trajectory that can only end in mayhem.

The Black Song Inside is a vivid crime thriller rife with the murder and madness, melded with gallows humor and the heroism of two flawed protagonists who, in struggling to unravel a skein of human suffering, learn the nature of redemption and the ability to forgive others and themselves.

Excerpt:

Rosemary suppressed a sigh. As the only child of parents who had wanted a brood, her life had been spent as the wobbly point of an inverted pyramid, forever attempting to balance the burden of hopes and expectations meant to be spread over a half-dozen children. Instead, it was only she and her adopted brother Johnny, the mayhem magnet.
"The leg I have now isn't agile," Rosemary said, rapping it with her knuckles. "With this new one, I can step over things, walk backward, change directions quickly. I'm no longer stuck just going one way and having a change in direction be a major ordeal. I'll be free."
Rosemary maneuvered the X2 case for a better view, marveling at the complexity encompassed in its artistic form. "Come take a look at it."
Mama stayed put, offering a wan smile. "It's very fancy."
Mama sniffed as she levered herself out of the armchair. She pivoted toward the window and pushed the silk drape aside. The waistband of her stretch pants dented her torso. From behind, her hair-sprayed bob seemed smooth and solid, as formidable a protection as the brass dome of a deep-sea diver, the hose stretching from the helmet up to a world of stability, sameness. "So much bad weather this summer."
Rosemary felt the urge to knead her mother's shoulders. "You could change, Mama."
Her mother's neck stiffened. Still looking away, she shook her head. "I happen to like who I am."
Ah, and there it was, the roundabout implication that Rosemary was somehow betraying Mama by being with Atticus-the only thing that had set the pyramid to wobbling as much as her joining the Army Reserves. Hadn't Mama's fears been grimly vindicated when an IED exploded under the Humvee she was driving? Didn't she have an "I told you so" moment when the explosion transformed the man who'd been next to her in the front seat, Specialist First-Class Yukio Morimitu, an always smiling human being with a new bride and a child on the way, into a spatter of blood and bone clumped in her hair, clogging her ears and nose, and filling her mouth with gobbets of flesh.
Rosemary hobble-stepped to the window, leaned against the sill, and put her arm around Mama's shoulders. Lightning flickered in the lining of steel gray clouds. "More rain coming," Rosemary said. "Maybe you better go now."
"I rearranged my day so I can take you to rehab. We could have lunch, relax, then go." She studied Rosemary's face a moment and squinted. "What? You don't want me?"
Rosemary forced her expression to be neutral. "Of course I do, but you said you couldn't go, so I asked Atticus."
"So. You'd rather have him than your own mother."
"Oh for God's sake. I asked you to take me first. You said you were busy."
"So Atticus can't change his schedule?" The sky cast a greenish tinge on Mama's face.
Here we go again, Rosemary thought. Countdown…three…two…one…
"Atticus, Atticus, always Atticus. I'm sick of hearing his name."
"Blastoff."
"What?" Mama blinked.
"Cape Fucking Canaveral." Rosemary shuffled back to her bed.
