Excerpt:

I sense movement, and in the next moment Tracy throws herself at the barrier, a screaming, howling banshee. She fights against the magic barring her. Static electricity sparks through the room, zooming around, visible in the darkness. I push Kacie behind me as the manic ghost continues her relentless assault on the barrier. A deafening boom reverberates through the room, followed by a wave of energy. I push Kacie down, falling on top of her to shield her from the ghost's wrath. Pain lances up my back like thousands of cat claws, making me cry out both in shock and pain. I glance back-Samson and Delilah hiss their displeasure at Tracy, their claws digging into my back.

The claws retract when I yell at them, and all the other pain surfaces. Ignoring the throbbing in my ribs, I roll to my side to free Kacie, sending the cats leaping away. Tracy lets out one last anguished wail before slumping and falling to the floor. My familiars circle her prone body, mouths open, scenting the air. The heaviness in the air lessens, but I continue to take in shallow breaths to keep from aggravating the pain. I watch Tracy, searching for… well not signs of life, but existence? Her form flickers like an old movie, and I wonder if she'll just wink out of existence.

"Is she…" Blake trails off, pushing himself up on his elbows. "That was quite a blast. You both okay?"

"Yeah," Kacie says, rubbing her head. "Where's Mr. Kincaid?"

"Out here," Mr. Kincaid says from the hall. "I got out just before the explosion."

"Logan…" Kacie pulls on my arm while pointing at Tracy's prone form. "I've never seen, I mean, she can't…"

"Her spirit would've disappeared if she was destroyed." I try to struggle to my feet but give up, sagging back down. Kacie leans against me, and I wrap my arms around her.

Blake eyes us. "You two are not okay."

"When Tracy forced the barrier, she released a lot of psychic energy," I say, resting my cheek on Kacie's head.

"It drained all of us, not just her," Kacie adds.

"I feel fine," Blake says stretching his arms over his head.

"Yeah, why is that?" I ask, unable to hide the genuine surprise from my voice.

"Rebecca will be thrilled," Kacie says.

Blake raises his brows. "Why, she like stamina?"

Kacie giggles. "Get your mind out of the gutter, Blake. She likes researching puzzles."

"Oh, no. I ain't no one's guinea pig."

Tracy's spirit releases a soft sigh, like a light exhale of breath… if ghosts could breathe. She floats to her feet as though controlled by invisible strings. Still solid, her dark eyes scan the room. A smile crosses her face when she realizes that she made it through the psychic barrier. All I can do is stare at the ghost and wonder what that mysterious smile means. Maybe she's as drained as we are. Kacie squeezes my hand, her aura flickering from exhaustion. I meet her gaze. Evade and stall for time to recover-I try to send the message to her in my expression.

"Now that you're in here, love," Blake says, gesturing at the room. "Care to share why you wanted in so bad?"

Tracy blushes at Blake's obvious flirting. I had no idea a spirit could blush, even one who appears as human as she does. I mean, it takes blood to blush, right? More manipulation? She glides to one of the beds and reaches out to it. Her hand goes straight through. When she tries again, she lets out a frustrated growl as her hand once again passes through the mattress.

"I can't touch anything?" she says, her words sounding more like a question than a statement.

One moment she's by the bed and the next she appears inches from Blake's face. He doesn't flinch, which I have to admit is rather impressive. I'm pretty sure even I'd have reacted to her sudden appearance.

"Are you really a werewolf?" she asks, leaning so close they'd touch were she human.

"Yep." Blake manages a blank face as the ghost circles him.

"Shift for me."

"It ain't a full moon, love," he says, shrugging his shoulders. I'm well aware that Blake can shift whenever he wants. He's a born alpha werewolf, not a bite victim. Blake's features take on a look of complete innocence. Damn but he can rival Kacie and Daniel in the acting department. "Why're you deflecting attention from that bed? What's under that mattress?"

"Nothing," she says, backing away, shaking her head furiously.

"Now we both know that ain't the truth." Blake saunters over to the bed and lifts the mattress.

"No!"

"Now what have we here?" Blake tosses a small book to me.

I open the book and flip through the pages. "It's a journal."

"It's mine!" Tracy howls, making a grab for the book. But her hand passes through. She may have enough power left to look almost human, but not enough to manipulate physical objects.

Kacie takes the book, hugging it to her chest. "This is very private, but it could also be what's keeping you from moving on."

Tracy's form flickers and sinks to the floor. She returns to an ethereal, misty spirit, and I can't help but notice how much lighter she is now than before. Swirling white and light gray misty energy compose her figure, a sure sign that she's close to acceptance of her fate.

"I'll talk, but just to you," she says, pointing at Kacie.

"No," I say, unwilling to leave Kacie alone with this dangerous adversary.

"Of course," Kacie says, directing a glare at me.

It's a child's toy-what could go wrong?

While playing with a spirit board, two sorority sisters summon the vindictive spirits of three women brutally murdered by a psychopath. Join Logan, Kacie, and the rest of the Orion Circle as they delve into the disturbing events of the past to find the key to freeing the spirits.

But this isn't any ordinary haunting.  These ghosts were banished before, and now they have returned more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Anger breeds hatred and hatred leads to darkness-these phantoms are on the verge of losing their last spark of humanity and becoming completely lost to the shadows.

Can Logan and Kacie convince the tortured souls to embrace the light and move on, or will the spirits succumb to the hypnotic pull of evil, leading to an eternity of torment and suffering?

My Review – Twisted Sisters:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Unlike others I didn’t have to wait for the second book of The Orion Circle Twisted Sisters to come out. I got to read both books back to back. I was very lucky to have been able to read the first book Tortured Souls and then the second book Twisted Sisters. But on the other hand I do wish I would have read Tortured Souls way before I did. But that is water under the bridge as they say at least I got to read it.

I loved reading about Kacie and Logan in Tortured Souls and am very glad to see them back in Twisted Sisters along with all of their friends as well as a few new friends from The Orion Circle.
In Twisted Sisters we have these two sorority sisters who buy an Ouija board. What harm can it cause? It is a child’s toy right? Well not for these two. When they get the board and long with their refreshments for their little party of two it ends up being more than just the two of them at their little party. When they call upon the spirit world they open up a portal for three sisters that were killed in the house around forty years ago. The sisters have been banished before but they are stuck in the between world like on another plane. They are really upset about what happened to them when they died and have not forgiven anyone for their deaths which in a way you can’t blame them. So the sisters want revenge for what happen to them and they want someone to pay and they don’t care who it is.

While everyone in The Orion Circle are trying to figure out how to help the sisters and get them to move on. Kacie and Logan have a little trouble in paradise which also includes Logan’s best friend Daniel. Logan sees Kacie and Daniel doing that he can’t believe his eyes. He sees them in a compromising position that just breaks his heart. He can’t believe that they would do this to him. So instead of waiting to confront them and find out what is going on he just walks out ignores it or tries too. But he is so hurt he can’t ignore it and he lets it over take him and almost cost him his life when goes to investigate what is going on at the sorority house.

The circle has a hard time with these sisters trying to convince them to cross over. Can they help the sisters come to terms with what happened to them so that they can cross over and live in peace? Will Kacie and Logan be able to fix what their miss understanding and patch things up between the two of them? Will their love for one another be strong enough to overcome this obstacle? Pick up your copy of Twisted Sisters to find out. You will in no way regret it.

I would like to say that I am so glad that I got to read both Tortured Souls and Twisted Sisters and can’t wait to read more about Kacie and Logan’s story as well as find out more about the other characters in The Orion Circle. This has been an amazing ride for me one that I am so glad that I took and can’t wait for more. Kimber knows how to put words on paper so that you can see them playing out like a movie inside your head. I plan on checking out more of this author’s works. Thanks for a great story.

Now in death, he plots his return while drawing power from the pure souls of the children. Kacie can't ignore the tortured souls of the children crying out to her every night. With Logan at her side, she will fight the Foxblood Demon. But can they banish this powerful phantom, or will Kacie lose not only her body, but her eternal soul to the monster.

My Review – Tortured Souls:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Kacie is a fifteen year who can see, hear and talk to ghost. She has lived with this ability for as long as she can remember. She keeps all of this knowledge to herself though and never talks to anyone about it. She tried talking to her parents about it when she was a little girl and her mother left and her father blamed her. Kacie’s father dealt with her mother’s leaving in a bottle but at least he stuck around and tried to an extent to take care of Kacie and her older brother Gavin. Kacie never saw or talked to her mother since but her brother Gavin talked to her sometimes but she never seemed to what to talk to Kacie which broke her little heart so much that she ended up hating her or that is what she told herself. But I don’t think she ever really hated her deep down. She was only trying to cover up the hurt.

After her mother left Kacie learned real quick like to keep her mouth shut about the fact that she could talk to ghost. She tried to ignore the ghost and pretend they didn’t exist and she knew if she tried to tell anyone they wouldn’t believe her anyway and would probably send her away to an institution somewhere and she didn’t want any part of that. So she kept her mouth shut and pretended everything was just hunky dory.

Until one day she was at a party and there was a ghost behind her but she wouldn’t turn around and acknowledge it. She hoped if she just ignored it; it would eventually go away and leave her alone. But that probably ended up being the luckiest day of her life because the crush of her life Logan came up to her and asked her straight out or well just confirming that she could see the ghost or knew that it was behind her.

That day changed Kacie’s life for the better for more than one reason. She started hanging out with Logan and she found out she wasn’t crazy after all that there were other people like her that has special powers too. She now had someone that she could talk to about what was going on in her life and about the ghost and demons. She found out more about herself and how to stop this demon that had been following her around in her dreams.

Logan introduced her to this secret club at their high school called The Orion Circle. The Orion Circle was a group of people that had special abilities like Logan and Kacie. She also found out that there were different chapters at other schools all over the country as well kids and adults too. The Orion Circle helped people whose homes, hotels, motels or inns were haunted by trying to help the ghost move on. They investigated some real hauntings and a few hoaxes too. They met some good ghost and some evil ones as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tortured Souls. I loved all the characters. Some were bad*ass and some were just a barrel of laughs who kept you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what they were going to do or say next. I think Kacie held herself well with all that she had been through with her mom leaving her when she was a little girl and having to live with the ghost and demons all by her little old self. In my opinion she was one tough cookie. I mean how many kids could go through what she has and turned out to be the good hearted soul that she is?

Who or what do all these ghost and demons want with Kacie? You really want to know? Want me to tell you? Well I can’t actually do that now can I? That would spoil the whole book for you and you wouldn’t enjoy it or have anything to look forward too. So if you want to know more then you are just going to have to go and get your hands on your own copy. I am quite sure Kimber would greatly appreciate it very much and besides you will get a good story to boot. One that you will fall in love with right from the very beginning. So what are you waiting for? Go get your copy now. We would really like to hear what you think about Tortured Souls. I can’t wait to get started on the next book Twisted Sisters.

“Set has risen.”

After being on the run from a psychotic cult for a week, Natara “Natti” Stone has finally come to realize she and Seth are the only two people standing between the Sons of Set and the secret name of Ra. Holding a part of the key that unlocks Ra’s power, they relocate to a more isolated location in the California mountains. All Seth O’Keefe wanted was to get Natti as far away from his father and the Sons of Set as possible. Unfortunately, after hearing of Natti’s destiny from Isis’s own lips, he realizes they have bigger issues to worry about. Especially when one stupid slip up leads the god of chaos himself straight to their doorstep. Now Natti is the god’s prisoner, and Set holds the key to unlocking the location of the secret name of Ra. Can Seth save Natti from her own destiny and thwart the demented god’s rise to power?

Excerpt:

There was silence, then one of the other men whispered into the lean man’s ear. “Tefen, if they are speaking the truth, then we have no choice—
Seth watched the man—Tefen—lower his dagger and cast a deadly glare toward his fellow guard. The man looked at his brother with fear and pity before backing down.
Tefen marched forward. “I think this is a lie. How do the followers of Set even know of the prophecy much less who it is about?
Set laughed. “It is obvious you have been down here too long, my friend. It’s been thousands of years since Isis and Set were even alive. Thousands of years during which Set’s men have been gathering information to find the secret name of Ra and once again raise their god.
Seth wanted to kick Set in his thick head. Did he want all of them to die? Because that was exactly where this was going to lead if he wasn’t careful. Tefen was a loose cannon ready to explode, and Set kept burning the fuse every time he opened his mouth.
Tefen snorted. “And how do I know this is really her? For all I know, she could be just another one of your brainwashed victims. Another slave for your god’s temple. Another poor soul under the mercy of your cult.
The tone behind his final words were filled with such heat it could have physically burned. This wasn’t just about protecting Ra’s secret name. This was personal for Tefen. He had suffered loss by the Sons’ hands, and Seth had to wonder who it was.
Look”—Seth took a deep breath, trying to emphasize, though it was hard to feel anything toward a man who had been holding a dagger to his beloved’s throat—“we wouldn’t be here at all if Isis and Osiris didn’t entrust us with the crook and flail.” Tefen’s face became stone at Seth’s words, and the realization hit him. “But you already know that, don’t you? You know only the one marked in favor could reopen the gateway.
It’s the only reason they have not killed us,” Set clarified with a satisfied smile.
Tefen’s stance stiffened to the point where every muscle strained against the force. Set was right. Something was holding him back. And Seth doubted it was just about which of them was really the one marked in favor. There was more to this than appeared, yet it didn’t prevent a devilish grin from suddenly inching its way up Tefen’s lips.
It doesn’t mean I can’t require a test of honor. Tjetet, step forth.
A giant of a man stepped forward, reminding Seth of Dwayne Johnson from The Scorpion King. He cracked his knuckles while his dark eyes darted between Set and Seth.
A battle to the death,” Tefen continued. “One of yours against our best man here.
Seth swallowed, knowing full well that Set wouldn’t risk his life and Natti would be like watching a match between the Hulk and Thumbelina; it had to be him. “I will do it. I accept your challenge.
“No. Not you.” Tefen’s grin grew even more twisted. “The girl.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

We are back again with Seth and Natti who are on the run and are hiding out from Seth’s father. His father wants Natti for his own. The only reason he wants her is because she is the secret keeper and is the only one who can get him want he truly wants which is the Name of Ra. He wants to raise their God Set from the dead. He wants to have more power than anyone and he also wants control of the whole world but he just might be in for a rude awakening.

Seth has been raised to believe in the God of Set and that he is to obey him no matter what. He has also been taught that he is not to have anything to do with the Daughters of Isis. He is ok with this until one of the daughters moves to his town and starts going to the same school that he does. Seth doesn’t know that she is a Daughter of Isis in the beginning but he does find out before she does so herself. Seth is a very strong and talented young man. He is a very strong charmer. He can make anyone or almost anyone do his will if he so desires. Well with the exception of Natti that is.

Natti doesn’t know anything about being a Daughter of Isis or the Sons of Set. Her family has kept all of that hidden from her, her whole life. When Natti first laid eyes on Seth she was very attractive to him. She did not know that he had any special abilities and that he could literally have any girl he wanted and did well that is except her of course. But it didn’t take her long to figure out what was going on. She found out about his powers and that was why every girl in school hung out with him. Even though she liked Seth she didn’t want anything to do with him because she wasn’t sure if she actually felt want she did or if Seth was using his powers on her like he did with all of the other girls.

When Seth found out what his father had in plan for Natti he took her and left town with her. Seth and Natti both figured out that she was immune to his powers and that he couldn’t make her like him or that she could fight off his powers. Seth gave up everything thing in his life for instance like becoming the leader of the Sons of Set after his father’s reign to keep Natti safe. Seth and Natti fell so hard and deeply in love with each so much so that they would each give their own lives for the other. They would both fight tooth and nail for the other. If they had to die and give up their life to keep the other alive then they would. Seth would do anything for Natti and Natti would do anything for Seth and the world at large. Natti had one great big heart and didn’t have a selfish bone in her body. Natti would never let Seth’s father have his way with her and she would never let him take Seth from her no matter what it cost her.

I have enjoyed reading the Descendants of Isis and I am sad to be leaving Seth and Natti behind. I am going to miss them so much. You know you have read a good book when you start missing the characters long before you get through reading the last book. I am going to miss the love that they both had for each other and the way that they interacted with each other as well. I loved their playfulness. They are two of the best characters that I have read. I hope that we get to see more of Natti and Seth in the future. But if not I hope that Kelsey has more books and stories that is just waiting to be told. I can’t wait to read more of her work and I recommend the Descendants of Isis to anyone who just loves a good book. As the saying goes it is “off the chain.” I loved the world of the Descendants of Isis and want more of it.
