This Broken World
(Vesik Series # 4)
By Eric R. Asher
Release Date- 12/19/14

Blurb-

An ocean of darkness lives in the journal of Philip Pinkerton. Ancient things with no place in our world are rising from the Abyss. Ezekiel, the arrogant, mad god has called us into battle. Does he think we can't touch him, or does he know we can't? I wish I knew. The world's only hope lies in a forgotten weapon, the strength of our allies, and one necromancer of questionable ancestry. Yeah, this is going to end well.

Excerpt:

I grimaced as I laced my fingers into the dead hand. The cold flesh warmed and I felt the flow of power a moment before the dead fingers flexed and grabbed onto my hand.

I swore I heard the Old Man say “I hate those damn things,” and then the world vanished into darkness.

I had a brief moment of panic before warmth flooded my entire being. It flowed through me like the rhythm of a heartbeat. A faint golden glow took shape to my left.

Motes of light drifted down onto the severed hand as it began to bleed. The light coalesced and brightened, calling more sprites that gathered like snowflakes drawn to a tiny world. In moments, there was a woman, born of the purest light, holding my hand.

“Ah, I have a new master.” Shoulder-length hair flared out slightly when she turned to look at me. “Where do you wish to go, child of Anubis?” Her eyes were golden light.

My grip loosened on the bloody hand, and then her fingers locked into my own.

“Do not release me here, for there is nothing but death in the Abyss between.”

Nixie’s warning came screaming back into my mind. Do not let go.

“What?” I asked, my hand tightening on the woman’s. “Who are you?”

“You may call me Gaia.”

“The spirit of the Earth?”

“In a way,” she said with a tiny nod of her head. “Where do you wish to go? I would imagine you wish to join the King at the Concilium Belli.”

I nodded and looked at our intertwined hands. Ever so faintly, I could see the dead hand within the warm light. “Are you bound to this hand?”

“It is my hand,” she said. I waited for a smirk or some kind of indication she was joking with me. Nothing came.

“Why are you helping me?” I asked.

“It is my purpose.”

Purpose. I wasn’t sure if she was being vague, or blunt. “Are we within the Warded Ways?”

“Yes.”

“I’ve never experienced them like this before.” “If you have travelled the Ways, you have experienced this. It simply happened so quickly in your perception that you cannot recall it.”

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Damian is a Necromancer and a son of Anubis. He has been fighting battle after battle with his master Zola's ex-boyfriend that has been around for many, many years. Damian has fought all these battles but he has not won the war yet. Damian is a very soft hearted man but mess with someone he loves or cares about and he will at least show you that he has been there even if it gets his butt beat. But when it comes to his family and the people he cares about he will give it is all and it is going to take a lot for anyone to go up against him and will a battle.

Damian being a son of Anubis then he is going to have to keep fight these battles until he wins the war. If he does not win the war then the world will be destroyed along with all of the people. But Damian has no intentions of ever letting this happen so he will fight until the end no matter what it takes.

Damian has been training with The Old man Zeus and both of them are mighty powerful men or gods. They are not only teaching Damian how to throw punches but that he always must have a backup plan. He has to always watch his opponent for his weaknesses so that he can hopefully always have his next move planned out a heard of time. The Old Man has been teaching him that he can never let anyone get inside his guard that he always has to try and get inside their guard first. Weather he manages to get inside their guard or he could die. Damian is also being taught muscle memory as well so that when he fights all of his moves will be second nature to him. He will be able to make his moves and never give it a second thought. To be a good fighter you cannot fight with your hands alone.

I have read all of the Vesik books and loved them all. If you love zombie books like I do then you need to read the Vesik series. Each and every book in the series have all been just fantastic. If you have not read them then I sugest that start with Days Gone Bad the first book in the Vesik series.

Red Tides (Z Plan #2) by Mikhail Lerma
Published August 26th 2014 by Permuted Press
ebook

Blurb:

After barely escaping the Middle East alive in Z PLAN:BLOOD ON THE SAND, Cale finds himself on a journey not many men could endure. When he deployed to Iraq he never could have known the world would soon be overrun by a deadly virus, turning the human race into a walking nightmare. His story picks up right where it left off in BLOOD ON THE SAND. After days of drifting alone in the open sea, he is sure the chance of rescue is hopeless. His thoughts nearly drive him mad until finally a voice crackles over the boat radio. Only his rescue isn't quite what he imagined it would be. Cale will have to trust his instincts, and let his wits aid him as he continues his grueling mission to make it home. Follow Cale as he travels land and sea in book two of the Z PLAN series.

Excerpt:

Cale awoke to Naeem’s terrified face. The room was filled with shouts and moans. Naeem was shaking Cale violently, pointing at their cellmate. He was convulsing on the floor, where he’d vomited blood.

“Shit! He’s infected” Cale exclaimed.

He wasn’t alone; the occupants of the two farthest cells were also infected. One of them had a death grip on the elderly woman through the bars of his cage. One of the younger women tried to assist her, but the old woman had already been bitten. The second young woman pressed against Cale’s cell, screaming for help. The Middle Eastern man sat up, awkwardly at first, but then jumped forward and grabbed her easily. Before Naeem and Cale could react, he’d pulled her arm through the bars and had taken a mouthful of flesh. She shrieked in pain and fell to the floor, clutching the bloody hole that was once her tricep.

Together, Cale and Naeem pulled their undead cellmate to the floor and took turns stomping on his skull until it was a soggy pile of bone and brain matter. The man’s body continued to twitch, despite his brain being stuck to the bottom of Cale’s boot.

The duo backed up against the wall, far away from the cages that contained the undead. They watched as the infected feasted on those who hadn’t reanimated yet, their mouths slurping and smacking. The sound was horrible, but the smell was worse. The stench of bile and feces flooded the tiny space.

“Hey! We need help in here!” Cale shouted, hoping a guard would hear him, but no one came.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Red Tides picks up right where Blood on the Sand left off with Cale floating along in a boat in the water. He is trying to stay alive, beat the zombies and survive the virus that caused the world to go to h3ll and back. All Cale wants is to make it home to America to find his wife and baby. Ever since the attack of the zombies Cale has been on along journey fighting zombies and humans alike just trying to make it back to his home land.

Just as Cale is just about to give up all hope while he is on the boat. He is running out of food, supplies, fuel and ammunition. A big ship, a submarine comes out of the water right next to his little old boat. The people on the submarine take Cale on board ship with them and keep him quarantine form the other soldiers for a while so that they can make sure that he is not infected. Cale soon learners that he wasn't saved by these people because they great people with big hearts and is only trying to stay alive themselves but have actually taken him along with others that they have come across as slaves to do all of their work for them. They have also taken all of these men so that they can take them out with them on land when they go to look for more supplies in order to have someone that they can throw between them and a zombie if the need arises.

Cale goes along with what they tell him to do up to a point. He is smart enough to know that the only way for him to stay alive and make it back to his family is just to go along with them at the moment and wait for his opportunity to escape or they let him go. At the moment the smartest thing for him to do is do exactly what they tell him to do. Make them think that they are in charge and have the upper hand but just as soon as his window of opportunity opens up then he will high tail it out of there. If they don't let him go before that is. Not all of the men that are on the submarine are bad men some are good just like Cale.

I love dystopian and zombie books and I can honestly say that I have loved reading the Z Plan series and can't wait to read more. I can't wait to find out what Cale and his new buddies find on American soil after the zombie apocalypses. If you like zombie books then you are going to love the Z Plan books. Mikhail knows how to suck you right into Cale's life and make you think that you are right there with him fighting the zombies and the humans too.

Blood on the Sand (Z Plan #1) by Mikhail Lerma
Published July 23rd 2014 by Permuted Press
Kindle Edition, 193 pages

Blurb:

Cale was sent to Iraq with the usual thoughts any Soldier going to war might have; being lonely away from his family, not wanting to take another human's life, and above all, the fear of never returning home. Although well trained, nothing could have prepared him for the horror he was about to face.

Cale never thought the thing that could keep him from ever seeing his wife and daughter again would be a zombie apocalypse. As he and a handful of fellow Soldiers escape their base after a massive zombie attack, becoming deserters in order to survive, he begins the long and unexpected journey home through the harsh terrain of the desert; a barren landscape now swarming with not only undead cannibals, but also the enemy he was originally sent to fight.

The newly formed group plans to travel west, find a boat and maybe, with a bit of luck, make it back to America. Cale is tested beyond his imagination and brought to the brink of insanity as he loses friends while fighting the flesh eating masses. He risks his life for weeks, focused on holding his wife and daughter in his arms again. It seems all hope is lost when he finds himself alone and adrift at sea ... but is hope really lost?

Inspired by my experiences as a U.S. Army Soldier in Iraq, BLOOD ON THE SAND delves into the idea of not just surviving a zombie apocalypse but making the seemingly impossible trek home. It is the first book in the Z PLAN series.

About The Author:

Mikhail Lerma was raised in the small town of Holdrege Nebraska. In the third grade he wrote his first short story, in which the main character was a monkey. Not taking his career as a writer too seriously after that, he finished his high school years by joining the army when he was only 17. He spent 10 years in the army starting as a truck driver and eventually becoming a combat medic.

While deployed to Iraq in 2007 he spent missions in a turret as gunner. In his free time he began writing a story having nothing to do with monkeys. Only time will tell if this was a good career move. With encouragement from his friends and family he decided to start taking his writing seriously. Storytelling has become a passion of his, with a strong interest in horror and science fiction. He is currently going to school to become a paramedic, and finishing his first series for Permuted Press.

He lives in Iowa with his wife and three daughters. He does not have a pet, but if anyone would like to donate a male dog to level out the hormones in his house that would be much appreciated.

All it takes though, is one moment, a defining light in the perpetual darkness to bring life into your heart. His emerald eyes captivated and enslaved her to him.

The green eyed Adonis took her for the ride of her life, on his motorbike. One she would never forget. He intertwined himself into her life and captured her soul.

But the illusion of beauty can hide a broken past. And as the lovers fall deeper, the darkness leeches into the light, suffocating and destroying all within its path. Until there is nothing left but betrayal and shattered hearts.

He didn't ascend the two steps up to the raised floor I was on, so we were now more or less of similar height. It was a little disconcerting he was still taller, even at my advantage.
"Did you just tattletale like a little bitch?"
"He was touching your ass."
"You-"
"And if you want me to be your bitch, I can do that." The grin that spread across his handsome face showcased a sexy line of white teeth. He had a very small slit in his lip, as if he suffered from dry lips. Without thought, I leaned forward and sucked his bottom lip into my mouth. He tasted like beer and delicious man. I knew I was risking the giant's bollocks kissing him in front of my brothers, but I couldn't stand more time passing without having a little taste.
I pulled away, slowly releasing his lip with a nip of my teeth. He didn't make any move to touch me, or kiss me back. He simply stared at me with shining eyes and a hot smirk.
"Dance with me." It wasn't a question; I wanted to feel his body against mine.
"Can I touch your ass?"
I didn't answer; I simply sauntered back onto the dance floor. I glanced over my shoulder and offered him a coy smile. Acis had scared the poor young guy away.
I started the slow sway of my hips, keeping my eyes pinned to my avid admirer. His eyes tracked my movements. The sway of my hips, the bend of my knee, the curve of my waist. Slowly, he walked toward me with the prowl of a dangerous animal ready to capture his prey. I expected him to wrap his arm around my body and pull me against him, but instead, he lifted his hand and hooked his finger under my chin and ran his thumb over my bottom lip.
"You're a dangerous woman, pixie-girl."
I didn't speak; I simply stared into his eyes and wrapped my lips around his thumb and sucked it into my mouth, licking the pad before slowly releasing it. His eyes flared and his extremely long lashes battered against his cheeks like butterflies trying to escape.  Finally, his thick arm banded around my back and lifted me up against him, my feet dangled near his shins. There was no finesse in the way I crashed against him-as I said, I was clumsy. But the heat of his skin burned against me, igniting a desperate need inside me. I pressed my hands against his chest and curled my fingers into the fabric, anchoring myself to him as he pressed his hips against mine and started a slow sensuous rocking. With each wave of movement, my stomach tightened as his hips and hard-on pressed perfectly against me. I parted my legs slightly, allowing him to slide his thigh between my legs. His hand caressed my waist as it slid down my side, over the small of my back, to cup my arse. He pressed against me, bringing me tightly against his hardness. I closed my eyes and a small moan escaped me as electric pulses throbbed through me.
The scratch of stubble against my cheek and the hot warmth of his breath made me shiver violently.
"I want to feel, touch, and taste your skin, Pix," he whispered against my ear, the seductive baritone of his voice shattering any protests I may have had. Which I didn't. I tightened my fist in his shirt, certain I was nipping his flesh.
"I want you to watch as my tongue licks every inch of this perfect body. Starting with your tight nipples." He took my earlobe into his mouth and nipped with his teeth. I melted against him. The only support for my weakened body was my grip on his shirt and his hands on my arse.
"I-" I said breathlessly as he licked a warm path down my neck to cover my throbbing pulse with his mouth, sucking hard against my heated flesh.
"Either way, babe, I need you naked."

Hi! What to say about myself...I don't really have anything interesting to offer other than I love to read, and create stories for others to enjoy. I've always been told I have a vivid imagination, I just lacked the confidence to pursue putting it onto the written page. But finally I embarked on making a single dream come true.

I love to read, and write. I only read romance, any genre really, but it has to have a beautiful romance. I also demand a HEA, even if it takes two or three books to get there. Reality is too broken and jaded without having to live through the trauma and angst in a book for it to end unhappily.

Excerpt:

I picked my unused candle off the speaker and headed through the house out to the back porch. As soon as I opened the storm door and stepped outside, I debated going back in for my jacket. The chilly October air sent goose bumps up my arms and over my chest. I figured I wouldn't be outside long, so I let it go. I set the candle down and reached into my front jeans pocket and pulled out my red plastic lighter (don't ask, or at least don't tell my parents). The wind blew across my arms as I held out the lighter and cupped it with my hand, trying to block the breeze. As soon as I ran my thumb over the lighter, the wind died completely and a bright flame sparked to life. I brought the flame closer to the candle and I swear, it jumped from the lighter to the candle wick. It only added to the craziness of the situation. My mind screamed, "This can't be real." The rest of me wasn't so sure.

I stared at the dancing little flame for a full minute waiting for the wind to snuff it out. It never happened. The air was still chilly but calm. I pulled my hand away from the candle and pulled the letter out from underneath my arm. I unfolded it and looked at it one last time. The words were no longer bright red. My blood had dried to an almost dull brown. What the hell are you doing, Connor. This is stupid. Nothing is going to happen.

My hand shoved the paper into the flame of the candle.

Jokingly I chanted, "I, Connor Sullivan, promise my soul to whomever grants my fondest wish. I do this freely, understanding that this is bound in blood, never to be undone. So shall it be. Please accept my oath of blood." The words rang and echoed into the cold October evening.

The sun set, and just as it dropped over the horizon, I swear the vanishing light chimed like a bell. The slowly burning paper flared in my hand. I lifted it higher as a nagging voice in my head urged me to blow it out. I sucked in a lung-full of air to do so when the note disappeared with a soft thwump. I didn't get burned, but I had a handful of ashes. Without another thought, I tossed them up onto the air.

I leaned over and blew a soft puff of air over the candle, snuffing the flame. The wind picked back up and the crickets that had gone silent without me noticing started chirping again. I grabbed my candle and headed back to my room, trying to calm the sudden fear spreading through my chest. It's official. You've lost your mind, Connor. They're going to lock you in a loony bin.
