Excerpt One:

Over 13 billion years ago ...when the universe sparked to life ... the spiritual Big Bang accelerated fluctuations of light that swept the void of space with galaxies and dark energy.
Within this creation, a promise was made. In its heart lies the greatest light. The watchmaker watched the creation, as the universe was endowed with the freedom to move on its own.

One infinite garden, yet many trees of life. One humanity, yet many stories. This book is a small story from the inner light: a story that shall explore the Physical World and the Spiritual World. The body of the story shall embark upon exotic adventures across the lands of Planet Earth: from the continent of Asia to the continent of Europe, and from the ancient civilizations of the Middle East to the continent of America.

The mind of the story will travel from a little roof to the vastness of the stars, from the fires of the valleys to spiritual summits, from War to Peace, and from the sorrows of a heart to the pursuit of a dream.

There is a treasure. Yes! There is a treasure. A treasure that had been lost for millennia, hidden in the margins of History. A force beyond Time and Space - the source of all innovations. The myth tells that whoever discovers this treasure shall be bestowed 4 Rings of PowerThe Fountain of Youth - Water, Designing Destinies - Wind, The Moment - Earth, and Cosmic Energy - Fire. So let us light the torch of the future and sail towards the unseen!

An exchange of energy always occurs among all living things. Within this circle, within this network of energy ... a small family once lived. But in order for the family to be here today, past generations decided to design the sands of time.
With no fuel or oil, every day, 7 days a week, Planet Earth orbits the sun. Every dawn, when the morning star shines high above, a new hope is born. A long time ago, in a far away holy land, on one of these mornings, an old man named Mati decided to transform.

"You go anywhere in the world, from The Big Apple to Paris and from Brazil to Berlin … the borderline between success and failure is blurred. In this new century, people want something fundamentally different."

"The Equation is the answer spoken by the hearts of young and old, rich and poor."

About the Book:

Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her fifteen-year-old son is in trouble with the law and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined.

Forced to return to the Delaware Indian community where Lucas was raised, Tyne and Lucas are tempted by the heated passion that consumed them as teens. Tyne rediscovers all the reasons she found this man irresistible, but there are scandalous secrets waiting to be revealed, disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Love is a powerful force that could heal them both-if the truth doesn't rip them apart.

Excerpt 3 of Reclaim My Heart

From Chapter Ten

Tyne looked out the car window at the lush, green trees flanking the narrow country road.

"You know," she said, "I've been so focused today that I haven't thought about Zach. I wonder what he's doing."

Lucas glanced at the clock on the dashboard. "He's probably cleaning the fish they caught. Or stacking the firewood he collected." He grinned. "Or sitting in a hole trying to figure out how to get out."

"What?" She couldn't tell if he was serious or if he was teasing her. "What are you talking about?"

"Uncle Jasper put me in a hole once."

Tyne couldn't believe her ears. "Lucas. Come on. Don't tease me."

"I'm serious." He lifted one hand off the steering wheel. "First, he made me dig the hole. I spent a whole day with a shovel in my hands. 'Deeper,' he kept saying. 'Deeper.' And he made me go to sleep next to it that night not knowing what the danged thing was for. 'That is for tomorrow,' was all he'd tell me before sliding into his sleeping bag."

Lucas's smile never faltered. "The next morning he told me to jump down into the hole. Which I did, no questions asked. He told me I could have breakfast as soon as I'd climbed out, and then he walked away."

She was quiet, her mind taken up with the idea of Zach out in the woods with Jasper… maybe standing in a hole he'd been forced to dig.

"Nearly three hours later and I was still standing there. Filthy from trying to scale the walls, frustrated as hell that I couldn't."

"Your tone is telling me this is a good memory," she said, "but for the life of me, I don't understand."

He laughed. "Neither did I. And that was precisely the point of why I was in the hole for hours."

She frowned.

"Little did I know, but my uncle was busy in the night. While I slept, he'd angled the sides of the hole so the opening was smaller than the base. It would have been impossible for me to climb out. It'll be impossible for Zach to climb out too."

"Lucas! You are not making me feel any better. Get to the good part, please."

"I just hope he figures it out quicker than I did," Lucas continued easily. "You see, many of those camping tasks will emphasize independence. They're about learning self-reliance. But the hole? The hole is designed to make a man realize there are times when he can't go it alone. He needs others."

Tyne nestled into the seat, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "My son's out in the woods somewhere, digging a hole," she muttered. Her tone lowered. "Trapped in a hole." She heaved a sigh and shook her head. "Wonderful."

Author Q&A:

What attracted you to writing in the first place?

I came to writing from my love of reading. While growing up, I lost myself in books in order to escape an unhappy childhood.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?

Romance. I wrote for Harlequin for 20 years, writing sweet romance (as Donna Clayton) and women's fiction/contemporary romance (under my own name). I have self-published some of my back-list Harlequin books. The Merry-Go-Round was never published by a traditional publisher, so I guess that would be my first indie-published book. Reclaim My Heart is the second of my front-list indie-published titles.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?

I think authors who face a lot of pain and anguish seem to write stories with great depth, with honesty and compassion. It could be that dealing with trauma brings out the best (or worst) in people. I believe that losing my mother at such a young age had a huge impact on me not just as a writer but as a human being. I became, I don't know, more maternal towards my family, my friends, heck, towards everyone I meet... more giving of myself. I'm not sure. But I know that the loss could have made me bitter and angry. I'm just so grateful that the exact opposite seems to describe me.

Where do you get your inspiration and ideas from?

My mind is always on the alert. I take ideas from everything I see, hear, read, experience. I have been known to take a snippet of conversation overheard in an elevator and turn it into a book (Return of the Runaway Bride), or from a location (His Wife for a While), or from a person I met (Taking Love in Stride). So be careful! If you interact with me, you might end up in one of my novels.

What's your favorite place in the entire world?

I have visited so many beautiful places. The South of France, the rolling mountains of Italy, the Mediterranean Sea, the cobbled streets of Brussels, the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, beautiful Morro Bay, California, and I spend lots of time in Ocean City, Maryland. I obviously can't pick a favorite. Besides, there are so many places waiting to be seen!

What was your favorite part of this book to write? Which part was the hardest?

I really enjoyed writing the love scenes. In my sweet romances, all the 'spice' takes place behind closed doors. So this was very fun. And which part was hardest? The "kitchen love scene" (naughty pun intended!).

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?

I wanted to be a teacher. My aunt attended college and earned her teaching degree. I always idolized her.

If you couldn't be an author, what would your ideal career be?

Teacher. I love kids, and I often include them in my stories. I always say that children are very honest and outspoken. Kids inject a great deal of fun into a book.

If you could live inside the world of a book, which book would you choose?

Pride and Prejudice. Love that Mr. Darcy!

Give your fans three fun facts that they may not already know about you.

I love to cook! (I often post recipes on my blog.)

My reading tastes are crazy-eclectic. I read anything and everything.

I'm a little on the chubby side.

Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?

Depends. If we're talking ice cream, then vanilla… and I love mine topped with sliced banana and warm caramel sauce. If we're talking cake, then chocolate, and don't forget the fudge frosting. If we're talking milkshakes, then strawberry. Wow, now I'm hungry.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

I put my heart and soul into this Reclaim My Heart, and I think it shows… in the characters and in the story.

So what's next for you as an author? Any last words?

I'm thinking of writing a book that revolves around three friends in different stages of marriage, but I'm not sure yet. I've worked very hard on Reclaim My Heart and I'm going to take a few days off. Then I'll get back to work!

I want to thank you for hosting me, and I want to thank your followers for taking the time to read about Reclaim My Heart.

Book Tour: Room 3 By Jonathan D Allen

Room 3

Bartender and songwriter Kelli Foster had always kept her eyes trained on the dream of stardom as a means to escape her small-town life. That focus blinded her to threat right in front of her: a bar patron who lulls her into a false sense of security and abducts her for a shadowy organization, taking her to a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Desperate to escape and return to the world she thought she knew, Kelli bides her time, complying with her captors as they force her into a dream world where she must unravel the meaning of a song to free a hostage trapped inside a tree. Failure to free the hostage means only one thing: death, for her and the hostage.

Joined by an important test subject whose sanity unravels almost from the start, Kelli attempts to free them both. When the escape fails, Kelli's life becomes even more difficult, and she learns that her assumptions about her life - and the world itself - could all be false. As events spiral out of control, Kelli finds herself caught in a battle between godlike beings that hold her fate, and that of the entire Organization, in their hands.

Excerpt:

This is the first time we see one of Kelli's visions, following a an injection of the mysterious hallucinogen.

Something rustled in the corn. I whirled, but I knew who it would be before she even appeared. She always found me. "Mimi?"

A little girl appeared from between the rows, pushing the bottoms of the stalks apart. She had blue eyes, dark brown hair, and a smile that could just melt your heart - the kind of smile that never, ever survives into adulthood.

She cocked her head. "How'd you know my name?"

She always asked me that.

"We've met, but I've told you that before, too."

She put her hands on her little hips. "How come I don't remember you?"

"I think it's this place. It always makes you forget."

"I don't like that."

I looked around. "I don't like it much, either. But don't worry about it. I'm here."

Wheels turned in her head. "But why are you here?"

No clue how to answer that one. "You're looking for something, right?"

She nodded.

I leaned down, putting my hands on my knees. "What are you looking for, sweetheart?" I already knew the answer, but this had gone down a certain path forever, and the show had to go on.

She rubbed her eyes. "Cici's gone. I can't find her."

Cici. The girl forever searched for Cici. I had no idea if she even existed. "Now where did you last see your sister?" I said.

Her eyes widened, like I'd shown her the secret of the universe. "We did meet, didn't we, that's how you know about Cici?"

I nodded. "Where did you see her last?" Knew the answer to this one, too.

She pointed over my shoulder. "There."

I knew what I'd see when I turned. I'd seen it so many times that I'd even started to see it in my dreams. It didn't matter, though. Every single time I turned to gaze on it, it knocked me on my proverbial butt: an enormous, gnarled tree, soaring up into the sky. This wasn't just any tree, though. Somebody had carved a wooden organ out of the trunk, with two levels of wooden keys and wooden pipes rising out of the higher reaches.

The largest keyhole you've ever seen had been connected to that organ, its details carved right into the trunk, between the keys and the pipes.

"She's locked in there, isn't she?"

Author Interview:

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write Room 3?

Jonathan D Allen: A few years back I learned that my then-wife-to-be had never seen the 80s horror movie Videodrome; it's personally one of my favorite movies and has been a pretty big influence on my work. Horrified, I set out to remedy the situation immediately. As we watched the film (which is about a man who discovers a pirate TV station that can alter the mind) I realized that the premise had great potential in modern times. What if someone stumbled across a video site with the same goal, or found a blog that blurred the line between reality and fiction so that the reader never knew if the author was truly in danger. That became the kernel of inspiration for Room 3. The original premise fell by the wayside and got incorporated into a short story, but I'm happy with how things turned out.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Jonathan D Allen: I began writing at a very young age, maybe six or seven, but it was always just little skits and vignettes that occurred to me. I first knew that I wanted to write novels when I read Stephen King and Peter Straub's "The Talisman" at the tender age of 10 or 11. I wasn't ready to leave those characters behind and had my own vision of how the story would continue, so I guess you could say I started with fan fiction.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Jonathan D Allen: My parents tell me that I was an early bloomer; they first became aware that I could read around age four when I plopped down on the living room floor and began reading aloud from a Dr. Seuss book. I must have been reading previous to that, but I have no recollection of that period. The first book that I clearly remember is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which must have been around four or five.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Jonathan D Allen: I'm all over the map, but if pressed I'd say Dark Fantasy and/or Horror. I love literary fiction as well.

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Jonathan D Allen: Depends on the day of the week, but right now it's either Clive Barker's Imajica or Stephen King's The Wastelands. Both show such breathtaking imagination while keeping the reader close to the characters' humanity.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Jonathan D Allen: It always comes down to King or Barker and Barker wins by a hair because he didn't have quite as many clunky books as King. To be fair, he didn't get quite the same chance as King. Anyway, I say Barker because he has the same kind of career trajectory that I would love to have: started out with fairly innocent but imaginative tales and began to truly spread his wings into some fantastically-crafted worlds. Most importantly, though, he kept a core of humanity within those stories.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Jonathan D Allen: Assuming that I could come back, I would love to see what came before the Sumerian and Babylonian cultures. I've always felt that the evolution of civilization felt incomplete, as if something were missing in the transition from tribes to cities. A lot of my work is about speculating on that connection, and I'd like to see just how off-base I might be.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Jonathan D Allen: It varies depending on the scene and characters involved. There are a few characters in my current WIP who are a sheer joy to write and I look forward to any scene involving them, but others are more reticent, with more muted personalities, and that's when it becomes a little more difficult. Overall, though, I do the whole thing for fun so I sure hope it doesn't become too difficult.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Jonathan D Allen: I do! My wife and I have two cats and three guinea pigs. Our publishing company, Qwendellonia Publishing, is actually named after two of the guinea pigs, Wendell and Quimby. I've always been an animal person.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Jonathan D Allen: Boy has that changed recently. I have a stomach disorder so I've had to cut out gluten and dairy and minimize other processed foods (good for the health, not so good for the palate). Right now my absolute favorite food is a gluten-free spaghetti bake that I've developed using grass-fed beef, tofu cheese, and loads of veggies. It's a constantly-evolving recipe, but it's pretty tasty.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Jonathan D Allen: The most important advice that anyone could give you is to write. It's as simple and complex as that. Your first few stories are going to be crap - it's inevitable. Everyone starts out writing crap, and typically even the most seasoned, polished veterans write crappy first drafts. The key is to accept that you'll suck at first and use every "failure" as a learning experience. I like to tout Ray Bradbury's theory that you need to write at least a million words of crap to get to the good stuff. It's certainly proven to be true in my case, and I think it could help just about any writer.

My Review:

Alana felt sad being back at school after getting out of jail for using the Book of Spells and Logan missing. The Book of Spells is dark magic and is forbidden. All of her friends are afraid of her now. No one stopped by to welcome her home. I think she is also missing Logan she is in love with him and feels like it is her fault that he is missing. In ways I guess it is but he chose to go into the book and he pushed her out of the way and jumped into the door surrounded by fire. Is Logan dead? Did he burn alive? Or has he been taken by the book? Can Alana save him? Can she get him out of the book? Can she find him and beat the book? Is Alana stronger than the book?

How can everyone treat Alana so different? Why do they not believe she needs them to fight the book? The "Book of Spells". Yes the book is the most powerful book created. Who created it? Who is Cafaf? Did he create it? Why can't they believe and know she is the same person as before? Yes she was using dark magic and it is forbidden. But has it really changed who she is? Can't they believe that she still cares about people and needs friends too? What about Wyatt he claimed to love her too. How can he really love her and not back her up? Are they that afraid of the book? I think Wyatt will come around to her side and help her get Logan back. I don't think Logan is dead. The book is lying to her to get her to help it or him. Or maybe it is just using Logan to get her help. Maybe the book took Logan out of the picture or out of the way. Because it knows she loves him so much and would put him before the book. The book needs her power. Why does it need her power?

Why is Alana being friends with these girls? Is the book really controlling her? Is she changing because of the book? Does she just need them to fight the book? Like make the book think she is starting to come around to its side so that she can beat it? How powerful is Alana? How strong is her magic?

“The mighty Book of Spells has her fooled, thinking there is a spell that will bring back Logan. Alana feels this is her only link left to him and his return. The Realm of Many Doors didn’t work. I've given her one chance and she failed, but Mother felt that she deserved one more.”

So that is why she is still holding onto the book. And not everyone is against her. The Headmaster is going to help her. He has sent for a powerful witch Sara to help Alana. Sara is a strong witch I guess sent with special permission from the Trusted Zone. What is the Trusted Zone? The witch's council? The book is using Alana.

So Sara knows dark magic. She is very powerful. Is she going to help Alana or hurt her? My guess is she will to do what she wants or have too to get her way. Or maybe get the job done.

I have truly enjoyed reading the Alana Weatherbee series. I loved the dark magic and the fact that they had to use wands for the magic to work that was cool. If you like magic and witches then I think you just may enjoy the Alana Weatherbee series.

My Review:

Alana Weatherbee a fifteen year has been admitted to the School of Shines of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is the first that Alana has left home and it was not something she was real thrilled about. Alana wanted to stay at home with her Dad and all of her animals. Alana not ever having many friends was shunned by most of the students in the beginning but that never bother her. Some of the students tried to bully her but she would just turn it right back on them. After Alana tried out for and made the top five for the Labyrinth games she started making friends with top five guys.

Alana met a new guy Logan who was admitted to the school after she was and they became good friends. The headmaster asks Alana to show Logan around the school and you know like help him out. He knew that Alana was a loner like Logan so he thought they would be good for each other. Alana fell in love with Logan after spending some time with him and they both realized that they each were capable of being liked by someone else.

Alana being a witch and a powerful one at that has this Book of Spells calling her. The Book of Spells was hidden a long time ago at the school. The Book of Spells is filled with black magic. Once Alana finds the book she becomes enthralled by it. She knows it is bad and she shouldn't have anything to do with it but she can't help it. The book may just cost her, her life as well as everyone else's at school also.

I liked Alana and all of the other characters as well. I enjoyed reading Alana Weatherbee it was a great read. Alana was not a bad person anyone that loved animals as much as she did can't be a bad person. Alana was just the type person that wasn't going to let anyone run over her.

While the town goes beehive over the news, Leigh bikes to the local cemetery and buries some of her mom's things in her grave to keep her there. When the hot and mysterious caretaker warns her not to give gifts to the dead, Leigh cranks up her punk music and keeps digging.

She should have listened.

Two dead sorceresses evicted the prom queen from her grave to bury someone who offered certain gifts. Bury them alive, that is, then resurrect them to create a trio of undead powerful enough to free the darkest sorceress ever from her prison inside the earth.

With help from the caretaker and the dead prom queen, Leigh must find out what's so special about the gifts she gave, and why the sorceresses are stalking her and her little sister. If she doesn't, she'll either lose another loved one or have to give the ultimate gift to the dead - herself.

Excerpt:

Dad, Darby, and I stood rooted in place at Mom's burial. The weight in my chest threatened to suffocate me if I looked at the lid of her gleaming casket any longer. Instead, I focused on the black birds cutting across the sky in a sharp V formation. They pressed on until the tops of the trees took them from me.

The preacher had stopped talking a long time ago. People still crowded around us, heads bent, smothering their sniffles with tissues. Someone patted my back. I wished they'd stop. No attempt to comfort would help.

The white-haired old man hovering back by the fence hacked loudly then puffed on a cigarette with a dirt-spattered hand. When we arrived at Heartland Cemetery, I'd seen him preparing another grave for a casket. He bounced on the balls of his feet, probably anxious to get the body in the ground.

Mom's body. Once the ground swallowed her, her death would be final, and that guy wanted to speed things up. He probably wanted to get to his coffee break or something. Heat flashed through my gut. I took a step towards him.

Dad grabbed the collar of my dress and yanked me back. I opened my mouth to say something, but the words died in my throat when I saw the tears slipping down his cheeks.

Darby had her head buried in his side. She looped her small fingers around my plaid belt, the one Mom got me for my fifteenth birthday. I grasped Darby's warm hand and closed my eyes against the pricks of hurt inside them.

The people closing us in shifted and began to wander away. The old man inched closer to Mom's casket. Dad tightened his hold on my collar. I gripped Darby's fingers and glared at the man.

The few people who were left gave us consoling looks and said empty words before they drifted off. One was the woman who'd seen my funeral attire earlier and clucked her tongue in disapproval. Mom had loved my black eyeliner and these combat boots, though. She'd said I reminded her of herself when she was young.

"It's time," Dad said.

A choked cry forced its way out of my mouth. No, it wasn't. If we left, the old man would lower Mom into the ground. It would be final, and I couldn't stand it.

"Why?" I asked, my voice cracking.

Dad just shook his head, hugged us both to him, and turned to leave Mom with the old man.

I wriggled free and ran.

"Leigh?" Dad called.

I didn't know where I was going or what I was doing. But I needed to be away-away from that stupid man who wanted to put the final punctuation mark on Mom's life. Away from the unfairness of her death.

My breath came in quick, sharp gasps as I wound around crumbling headstones. The sun threw bright rays on the maze of white, rocky paths and made my eyes tear up. I pumped my legs harder until I became nothing but movement. The untied laces of my left boot whipped my bare legs. Grass and mud around the graves muffled my steps until my boot flew off my foot and landed with a thwack in the middle of a cluster of trees.

I leaned over to catch my breath, unsure if I wanted to laugh or cry. Several yards behind me, Dad and Darby stood and waited. I waved them on to the gates and went to retrieve my boot. There seemed to be no one around except the trees and me. The leaves murmured to each other while the wind swayed the branches. Heartland Cemetery had more trees than the rest of Krapper, Kansas, and they all whispered and danced for the amusement of the dead.

A sudden breeze brushed over my arms and sent a faint smell of rotten hamburger past my nose. My stomach rolled. What was that? That didn't smell like the usual slaughtered cow stink that came from the other side of town. I shoved my foot into my boot and hobbled away.

The breeze and stink faded to nothing as quickly as they had come. I bent to tie my boot, but a crackling behind me made me pause. A cloud cast long, dark shadows over the headstones and chilled my skin. The hairs along my arms prickled.

The crackling came closer. I turned my head slightly. In the corner of my eye, inky black darkness crawled up the bark of a nearby tree.

I gasped and shot to my feet. The black ink crept to the tips of the branches and ripped away its leaves, leaving it empty and naked. More darkness pooled at the bottom of the trunk and inched along the grass towards me. Every green blade curled in on itself with that awful crackling sound, dying. The darkness reached straight for me.

A shudder raced across my shoulders. I stumbled backwards. My gaze caught on blackened footprints that led to the tree. Someone was doing this? But how? This wasn't possible.

I glanced back at Dad and Darby, but they'd gone on without me. This couldn't be real. None of it. I shook my head hard, trying to wake myself. Nothing changed.

Something dark fluttered from behind the dead tree. Whoever was doing this stood behind the trunk.

I dug my nails into my palms, pressed my lips together, and took a step back. A branch snapped under my boot, louder than the crackling. I froze. My heart jumped.

Scraps of muddy fabric flapped around the trunk, followed by a girl.

My flesh crept up and down my bones. Sweat trickled down the back of my dress. That rotten meat stink kicked my stomach, forcing me to clap a hand over my nose and mouth.

The torn fabric that hung from the girl's scrawny frame looked like a prom dress. Mud and grime covered her entire body. Her mouth sagged open in a silent scream.

I couldn't move. The darkness pooled underneath the dangling hem of the girl's dress and spread dangerously close to the toes of my boots, but I couldn't move.

The girl raised her tucked chin and looked at me. The whites of her eyes blazed behind the mud caking her face. Her open mouth held the same black gloom that dripped at her feet. A grimy tiara perched on the side of her head.

My muscles stiffened. I gasped as recognition hit me.

I knew the girl. Or knew of her. Her social circle was my social nightmare. Her name was Sarah, a popular cheerleader who committed suicide a week ago.

But how could she be here when she should be in the ground? I had to be hallucinating. My grief, the stress from the day, it was all making me see things.

Jumbled whispers swirled through the air. Was Sarah trying to tell me something? Because I didn't want to hear it. My feet finally got the message to move just before the killing darkness touched my boots. I ran.

"Mom," I called without thinking. Mom.

The old man cranked a lever that lowered her into the ground. A dull pain stitched my side. A sob welled in my throat. I couldn't watch.

"Dad!" I raced for the cemetery gates. He and Darby stood just outside. When I neared them, I breathed, "Something's wrong." Because what else could I say in front of Darby? If she'd seen what I saw, it would be too much to handle in one day. I stood so I blocked her view of anything behind me and resisted the urge to flip the glasses off her face.

Jo, my best friend, put her hand on my shoulder. I hadn't even noticed she was there. "What is it, Leigh?"

I took giant gulps of air and risked a glance behind me. The trees looked normal. Black death hadn't dripped everywhere. Everyone was in their graves.

That fact made me wince. "Nothing."

My Review:

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Leigh, her little sister Darby and her Dad Ken are all three in her bedroom listening to Darby who is nine years old read from a book that Darby and their mom was reading together before she died. They buried their mother today and while at the cemetery Leigh saw Sarah a cheerleader from her school that killed herself last week. And now Leigh is sitting in her room with her Dad and little sister who are both asleep. Leigh hears a taptaptap on her bedroom window and she knows it is not the storm.

Leigh is at her mother's grave burying some of her things and putting bricks on her grave like they use to in the old days. Putting bricks on a grave was some kind of ritual that was supposed to keep the dead from rising. Leigh is afraid her mother is going to come back like the cheerleader Sarah did. Everyone is calling it the Lazarus Syndrome, like Lazarus in the bible who came back to life. She doesn't want her mother coming back like that. Yes she would like more anything to have her mother back again but her coming back like that would be wrong and scary.

Leigh is beginning to fall in love with Callum her best friend's brother. Callum and Leigh don't think that Sarah coming back from the dead is Lazarus syndrome. They don't know what woke her up but they don't believe it is that.

Leigh met another boy at the cemetery and now she is starting to have feelings for him. When she first met him she called him scary boy but she found out later his name is Tram. Leigh can't figure out who he is. He explained to her who he was but he is still a mystery. He is seventeen years old and lost his parents when he was small and can't really remember them.

Leigh is still trying to keep her mother from coming back from the dead. She has returned to the graveyard and the same boy is there that was there the last time. He is telling her not leave things for the dead. He doesn't know that Leigh is trying to keep her mother from coming back. But why should you not leave gifts for the dead?

Leigh hit Callum because he brought another girl to his room a cheerleader, Megan. Jo told her that he broke up with. Callum tried to explain it all to Leigh but she was not having any of it. I mean a guy she was attracted too and who she thought was attracted to her is still supposedly dating his ex-girlfriend. He tries to explain it to her but Leigh is hurt and mad so yeah she hit him and busted his lip. Callum has to walk around school for a couple of days with red and swollen lip.

Leigh is just a child herself a fifteen year who is experiencing something no child should. She is empty inside without her mother. At the same time she is trying to take care of her little sister Darby. She is trying to make Darby's hurt and life better. She has now been put in the position of trying to be a mother for her little sister. She is hurting but she puts her pain way, tucks it way down deep inside of herself so she can put on a smile for her sister.

Darby is having a harder time I think than anyone over losing her mother. I know Leigh is too I mean, is everything that she is seeing and going through real or is she hallucinating? But Leigh is a great big sister never turning Darby away always comforting her when she needs it. I think Leigh is trying to take on Darby's and her Dad's pain too. Leigh loves her family very, very much. The things she would go through or do to save them now that is love. She has a heart bigger than the whole world. Poor girl no wonder she may be imaging everything that does not seem real. But at the same time I really don't think she is imagining it.

Leigh has gotten herself in trouble and who knows how she is going to get out of it alive. All she was thinking about was saving Darby. She knew what would happen if she promised herself instead of her sister. She traded her life for her sisters. They all miss her mom and now she is wondering what she has got herself into. What will her father and sister do without her and her mom?

Tram is still not telling her everything. What is Leigh going to do to get herself out of the mess she has gotten into? What about Callum? Does she love him or does she love Tram? Which one does she care about the most? Which one of them will win her heart in the end? I am still asking myself the same question is Tram real? Is Leigh losing her mind?

The Grave Winner is one great big mystery that will keep you up at night. You just have to keep flipping those pages because you just have to know what Leigh is going to get herself into next. If you like reading books where the dead come to life The Grave Winner is definitely the book for you.

Review Of Genevieve: A Witchblood Novelette By Emma Mills

Genevieve photo GenevieveCover.jpg

Title: 'Genevieve'
Series: A Witchblood Novelette
Author: Emma Mills
Published: May 14, 2013
Format: Kindle Edition
Lenght: 50 pages

Buy links: Amazon | Smashwords

Blurb:

Paris, France 1793

Growing up in the court of King Louis XVI, Genevieve enjoys a sheltered privileged life with the gardens of Versailles as her playground, until on the eve of her nineteenth birthday, the king is executed and all hell breaks loose.

As family members and close friends fall prey to the Revolution, Genevieve turns to the one man who promises to help her; the shadowy figure in court, and friend to the elder brother that betrayed them all, but is Sebastian worthy of her trust or will he too betray her?

Genevieve has a choice to make, one that will change her life forever. Go it alone and try to escape the murderous streets of Paris, or join Sebastian, forget her nightmares and start a new life… an immortal life?

Excerpt:

‘Evie, I’m so sorry if I’ve scared you, but it was something you needed to understand. I will happily protect you as a human girl, as that was my original plan,’ Sebastian said quietly once they were safely indoors.

Genevieve brushed the tears from her cheeks angrily.

‘I’m not scared, Sebastian… well I was, it was terrifying, but that’s not it. That’s not why I’m crying.

Sebastian stood still and watched her, a frown creasing his brow.

‘What then?’ he asked.

‘What do you think? You did it for me. You stole my revenge. I wanted to kill them and I wanted them to know why. I wanted them as terrified as my mother had been… and you took that away from me!’ Genevieve stormed up the stairs into the main living rooms, Sebastian at her heels.

‘Evie, you couldn’t have managed it. Not in their lifetime anyway. I am hundreds of years old and even I found it torturous toward the end.

You don’t understand yet. The scent of their blood, the adrenalin running through your veins, every bit of instinct within you is primed to kill, to feed, to tear out their jugular and drain every last drop. The only way we can survive as a species is to go undetected, which is why for the first fifty years you will be tied to me and I will be responsible for your actions.’

‘You could have helped me. We could have done it together,’ Genevieve said quietly.

‘Maybe I could, but revenge is not a reason to become one of us. How long did it take me to kill them all? Three minutes? Less? And then it’s over and you will spend eternity like this. I will change you Evie, but only with you knowing the full story, and not for revenge.

‘But there is still one woman left, one you didn’t kill,’ Genevieve said quietly.

‘I couldn’t find her,’ Sebastian said frowning.

‘I will,’ Genevieve smiled, before turning and walking towards the bedroom, Sebastian following.

My Review::

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Genevieve and her mother are only trying to stay alive and are running out of food. Genevieve heads out during the night to scrounge for food. She left her mother in an abandon cottage. Her mother is too weak to keep going. She has lost her father, brother and her best friend Marie.

When she made it back to their hideout she saw three men and two women with more men inside the cottage. She watched as they dragged her mother out of the cottage and the women started fussing over which one of them would get her clothes. Genevieve was so scared she didn't know what to do. She had no weapons to help her with trying to save her mother. But that didn't stop her she ran in anyway the whole time thinking she couldn't lose her mother not after losing the rest of her family she would have no one and she would be all alone in this miserable life. To Genevieve being dead was better than being alone. But Genevieve didn't get what she wanted as she was running in to save her mother or try to save her a man Sebastian swooshed in and took her away as if he had been a tornado.

Sebastian gave Genevieve the choice of if she wanted to be a vampire. He would protect her as a human girl even if she chose not to become a vampire. But Genevieve knows that being a vampire in that day and time was the only way to survive. Besides she wants revenge for her mother's death. She wants to kill the people who took her mother's life. Sebastian shows her want it will be like when she is turned to help her to better make her choice. All she wants is a new life, a new name and revenge for her mother. That is so sad she feels dead inside. She has lost everything. The world and the people running it have taken away her life and any dreams she may have had. She feels like a canoe after its insides has been scraped out, hollow. She feels like she is no more, like her mother is no more.

Whenever Sebastian gives her a command she has no choice but to obey. She literally could not disobey him it was like invisible iron shackles had been placed on her ankles. If he told her to stay and not leave the room she actually could not leave. But he had to give her a specific command at a specific time. He had to tell her everytime he wanted her to do something. He was Genevieve's master.

After being turned she could hear heart beats on the street she could hear everything. She was a lot stronger. The need to feed was very strong and caused her pain. But if Sebastian told her stop feeding she stopped she had no control over her own body when he gave her a command.

Sebastian is having a difficult time teaching Eva, as she wants to be called now, all the rules that she must go by and as to why she has to follow the rules. She is a newborn and the only thing she thinks about is feeding and trying to put the fire out that consumes her entire being.

She thinks they can just kill all the humans. She isn't thinking that if they killed all the humans then they would die because they would no longer have any food, they would starve.

Well, well Emma has done it again, written another master piece. Genevieve is just as good or maybe even better than her other books Witchblood, Witchcraft and Witchlove. Her writing just gets better and better. Although I do love Eva's story and would love to know more about her life I still like Jessica's story better. I guess I am just playing favorites with Jessica and Daniel.

I highly recommend the Witcblood series and Genevieve: A Witchblood Story to anyone who likes reading a good story. Not to mention having vampires and witches thrown in for a little added flavor. Do you like chocolate?

My Review:

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Aura Montgarten is a Nymph, who can shift and seduce whenever it suits her. Aura travels around moving from place to place. Aura travels hiding from love. She has a curse on her head. If she falls in love or if a man falls in love with her then he will die. Aura travels to Montana looking for her sister Natalie who she has not heard from in several days. Aura knows something is wrong with Natalie when she doesn't hear from her either she is hurt or in trouble.

Dane Burke is assigned to a murder case. Someone is going around murdering women in his home town. One of the women is his ex-wife. Dane is very pleasing to the eyes and Aura is attracted to him. Dane and Aura start spending time together looking for Aura's sister Natalie and the person who is killing all these women. Is Natalie still alive or has she been murdered like the other women?

Zeb Burke Dane's brother lives on and runs the family ranch. Zeb is married to Dane's ex-wife Angela. Zeb is not quite as nice as Dane is. Zeb only seems to care about himself and what he wants. When asks about the murders which took place on his land he is very evasive and just kind of acts like he could care less. It's like he doesn't care about other humans as long as he gets what he wants.

Montana Mustangs is filled with cowboys, murder and mystery and shape shifters. It will keep you up all hours of the night and day turning the pages wondering who is killing these women and why. You keep trying to figure out if Natalie is still alive and if she is you keep asking yourself where she is. Montana Mustangs has a little something for just about anyone you got your cowboys, romance and shifters. Oh did I mention Montana cowboys?

If you like reading books that will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next then Montana Mustangs is the book for you. If you like cowboys then you just have to give Montana Mustangs a chance. It has plenty of cowboys, love them cowboys. Danica Winters is one awesome writer and I hope to read more of her work in the near future.
