BOOK DESCRIPTION

Raising the Bar

When Kayleigh takes a gap year before starting University, she decides she's going to stay away from guys and just concentrate on having fun and experiencing life. That means going through a lot of batteries, but she's happy and satisfied.

That is, until she gets to Spain on her travels and meets her new co-worker, Luciano. The scorching hot Spaniard soon has Kayleigh's knickers in a twist- literally-and the time they spend together seriously raises the bar for her sex life. How will any other man ever compare?

EXCERPT

Raising the Bar

My first shift at the restaurant passes in a blur of flirtatious glances. My pussy swells and my clit throbs, desperate for attention. It's all I can do to resist disappearing into the bathroom for a sneaky wank. Even better, I'd like to drag Luciano in there with me and ride him until his teeth rattle. Instead, I console myself with the fact that once I get back to my apartment, I can do whatever the hell I like. And I know for a fact it's going to involve an orgasm.

I take a taxi back to my apartment rather than walking the dark, unfamiliar streets alone. It also means I can get there quicker and relieve the tension that the sexy Spaniard has caused. I pay the driver as fast as possible then rush inside and slam the door behind me. I heave a sigh of relief as I lock myself in.

Undressing, I drop my clothes by the washing machine and head to the bathroom, desperate to get clean. It's not work that's made me feel dirty, though. The flirting with Luciano have left me seriously wet. The panties I've just discarded in front of the washing machine are sodden.

Stepping under the shower, I groan with pleasure as the hot water caresses my fevered skin. I stand there for a few seconds, letting the heat and the water relax me. My tension slips away and runs down the plughole. I grab the shampoo and give my hair a wash, digging my fingers into my scalp and massaging it. Now I'm calmer. But by the time I've rinsed the suds, he's popped into my head again. Damn him.

When God Spoke

A Story Bound to be the Subject of Much Disagreement & Debate. When God Spoke is a Controversial Look at Religion Expressed by A Terminal Cancer Patient.

EXCERPT

When God Spoke

It was in the autumn of my life, when that dreaded prognosis arrived. Unheralded and harsh, but not unexpected, the reality of such a forecast was this: anyone who dared step on the stage knew that one day the curtain would come down. Unlike others given the directive, however, I refused to follow prescribed protocol for such revelations, those of shock, anger, or depression, for I never doubted the prediction of my course, I simply chose instead to proceed with great rapidity straight to the interminable question of, "Why me?"

Habitually disposed to disobedience (I confess here my one great flaw) I remained headstrong and demanding, and so, ever resolute, I refused to exit until a suitable answer was presented as to the reason.

And there is where my story actually has its genesis, for soon after my unreasonable rigidity prevailed, a voice did descend to that stage.

Then, over the course of three days I was provided with answers that my soul once thought of as incapable of occurrence.

Be assured that the voice was not without its own problems. It presented a conundrum in that it sounded much like and yet so unlike my own distinctive quality of tone and pitch. A baffling problem to be sure, yet one I resolved internally as the voice certainly had sufficient and affirmative counterclaims to my willful opposition of departing the stage.

So, what all of the above comes down to-is this: What you are about to read is neither synthetic nor spurious, but most avowedly true.

MY REVIEW

When God Spoke

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

When God Spoke is about a man with terminal cancer. Who sits out on the porch during the day and talks to God. When he is speaking with God he sees him sitting in the chair beside him. The man likes sitting out in the sun and feeling it upon his face. He loves how the sun feels beaming down on him. He is filled with peace and joy during his time in the sun talking with God.

The patient ask God in an around about way if he is real or not. He also ask him questions about religion like which one is the right one or who is right? Is any of them the right way to believe? God always answers him in round about ways so that the patient has to actually make his own decisions of what is right and what is wrong.

I think God is trying to tell him it doesn't matter what you believe or what anyone else believes. What matters is how you live your life doing what you know to be right. Treat all life as if it sacred. Love each and every human being the same no matter where they come from or what they believe. Each person has the right to believe how they want as long as they love and treat everyone the same. I also think he is telling him that he is smarter than some give him credit for. Like why would he let an innocent child that did something that is consider wrong when they had no control over what happened die without him. But then turn around and let that innocent child's murderer be with him? If he had all this control over what humans did then why would he not stop that poor innocent child from being hurt and killed?

Every day that this guy spent sitting in the sun he thought he was having a conversation with God when in reality he was talking to himself. As God told him man created God in his image it wasn't God created man in his image. Man needed this image of himself that he called God so that he could look inside himself and believe that he was pure and innocent. Man needed this image of himself to help him do what he thought was the right thing to do. To help him live a better life and help him to be a better person. Without any guidelines or any rules to follow then he believed that he would be capable of doing evil things. If God created man and not the other way around why is man not dying to be with him?

BOOK DESCRIPTION
The Gatekeepers Challenge

Ten agonizing months have gone by since Therese faced off against her parents' murderer at Mount Olympus, and she suspects Thanatos's absence is meant to send her a message: go on with your life. In cahoots with her new friend, who's gotten in with the Demon Druggies at school, Therese takes a drug that simulates a near-death experience, planning to tell Than off so she can have closure and move on, but things go very, very wrong.

Than has been busy searching for a way to make her a god, and he's found it, but it requires her to complete a set of impossible challenges designed by Hades, who hopes to see her fail.

EXCERPT
The Gatekeepers Challenge

"And I thought you were the god of justice!"

"These are challenges, Thanatos. The more challenging, the better the victory."

"Hah! Admit it. You want her to fail!"

Hades didn't hide the smile creeping across his face as he stood and met Than's eyes, their noses inches apart. "I want her to pay! She was an embarrassment to me last summer. If she's to join us here in my palace, I want her to suffer first."

"The punishment should fit the crime!" Than said.

"Agreed!" Hades bellowed. "I said those very words to your sisters before you arrived. They want to drag on too long the punishment of a murderer in Paris before they bring him here. I think they are motivated by something other than justice."

The Furies stood up, their eyes changing from blue in one and brown in the other to dark red. Blood dripped to their cheeks.

"Who doesn't love Paris?" Tizzie hissed.

"We'll leave you now," Meg snarled.

The Furies vanished.

Hades crossed his arms at his chest. "And you are, too, Thanatos."

"She had compassion for a man who was no longer a threat to her. She refused to kill him in cold blood. How is that a failure?"

"He deserved death. Her parents deserved vengeance. You deserved her to keep her word! She's the one who let you down, son. Not me. She chose to have mercy on that killer over becoming your wife. Doesn't that bother you even a little?"

Than's throat tightened and no words came. He could think of nothing to say. Yes, it had bothered him. It had bothered him a lot. Only her prayers in the aftermath of the battle convinced him of her love. Her prayers, not her actions.

The challenges gave her the opportunity to remedy that. His father was right.

GUEST POST
Awakening Your Inner Goddess
(Sans Fifty Shades of Grey)

When I say girls need to awake their inner goddesses, I'm not referring to the kind of inner goddess described by E.L. James in Fifty Shades of Grey (though I'm not opposed to awakening that type either). What I'm talking about is the warrior goddess of power inside each one of us, often latent and unrecognized in girls who continue to live in a world where men hold the highest offices in government, church, and the work force. Girls are less subjugated today than they were fifty years ago, and although the playing field still isn't perfectly level, the real culprit holding back most girls is themselves. As Alice Walker has said, "The most common way people give up their power is by believing they have none."

At the beginning of my Gatekeeper's Trilogy, a young adult contemporary fantasy based in Greek myth, fifteen-year-old Therese Mills believes she's the least powerful person on the planet. Her parents have just died. Her aunt has come to live with her in her beautiful home in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, but even though this means her friends and school won't change, Therese is ready to give up on life to join her parents. Death, known as Thanatos, has other plans.

Thanatos briefly meets Therese while she's in a coma. Avoided by all gods and mortals because of his job, he's shocked when she throws her arms around him and calls him lovely. He later makes a deal with his father, Hades, to go to the upperworld to win her heart. In return, Therese must agree to avenge her parents' murder.

Throughout book one, The Gatekeeper's Sons, Therese struggles with her feelings of ineptitude. Thanatos's sisters, the fierce and beautiful Furies, help her hunt for the killer, but their strength and efficiency make her feel weak. She feels small and insignificant until she learns her aunt's life is in danger. The desire to protect her loved one helps her rise above her self-pity to become the warrior she never knew she was.

In book two, The Gatekeeper's Challenge, Therese is required to complete a set of five challenges designed by Hades, who hopes to see her fail because he's disappointed with the way things turned out in book one. Once again, her desire to protect a loved one-this time Thanatos-pushes her past her doubts and insecurities into determined action. One by one, she faces each seemingly impossible challenge-including Ladon (the one-hundred-headed serpent), the Minotaur, and the Hydra-because it's the only way to spare Thanatos from an eternity of torment.

The final book of the trilogy, The Gatekeeper's Daughter (to be released December 1, 2013), once again forces Therese to look inward. All gods and goddesses serve humanity or the world in some way, and in order to remain at Thanatos's side, she must discover her unique purpose while protecting her loved ones against antagonistic forces. In all three books, power isn't something Therese derives from her environment, but something she finds within her once she believes it's there. Girls need to awaken their inner goddesses and wield their power.

To celebrate the completion of this saga, I'm holding a contest from January 1, 2013 to October 1, 2013 for my readers. Details can be found at my website .

MY REVIEW
The Gatekeepers Challenge

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

The Gatekeepers Challenge starts off ten months after The Gatekeeper's Sons with Than still trying figure out a way to make Therese a goddess so they can spend eternity together. Therese doesn't know what Than has been up to. She has not seen nor heard from in him in all this time. She is very uncertain as to how he feels about her. She thinks he has probably forgotten about her.

Her bestfriend's brother is in love with Therese and with her feeling down about Than she starts paying more attention to Pete. Although this does cause her some quilt because of her feelings for Than besides she doesn't know that Than still loves her. She has no way of knowing this. She can pray to Than but he can not answer any of her prayers or talk to her where she could hear him.

With Therese still in a depressed state she does something that she shouldn't do. A friend of hers Vickie tells her about this drug that she has tried once. The drug put her close to death where she could go to the underworld and visit her mother who committed suicide last year. Therese wants to try this drug so she can go see Than and tell him off and to end their relationship. Therese is mad at Than for not visiting her and letting her know that he still loves her. Vickie believes that the drug is safe if it is used right and not too often. Vickie and Therese try the drug and Vickie dies. Therese is so upset she feels as if it is her fault that her friend died and now her father is all alone.

Therese finds out that Than has been trying for the last ten months to find away to make her his queen. He has come up with away for him and Therese to be together. Hades gives Therese several more challenges for her to complete and if she finishes all the challenges then she can be made a god. All of the challenges are very hard which would be very difficult for an adult man much less a girl of fifteen. But Therese is very strong minded and is fight for love. Is she strong enough to fight and win? Will love conquer all? Will Therese and Than be together for all eternity?

I loved reading the first book in this series The Gatekeeper's Sons but I think the second book The Gatekeepers Challenge was better. I loved it from the very first page and could not put it down until I read the last page. Oh and speaking of the last page when I read it I was like no, no way it can't end this way. I can't believe how it ended. Talk about cliff hangers this was one big cliff hanger. I can't wait to read the next and final book of the trilogy The Gatekeepers Daughter. I am going to have to wait a long time to read it. Well maybe not that long considering that it is to be released on December 1, 2013. But it seems like a long, long time. I will miss Therese and Than as well as all the other characters.

If you have not read the Gatekeeper's Trilogy then I suggest you go right now and order your copy of both books today on Amazon. I really don't think you would be disappointed with Therese and Than's story it is amazing.

BOOK DESCRIPTION
The Gatekeeper's Sons

Fifteen-year-old Therese watches her parents die. While in a coma, she meets the twin sons of Hades—Hypnos (the god of sleep) and Thanatos (the god of death). She thinks she's manipulating a dream, not kissing the god of death and totally rocking his world.

Than makes a deal with Hades and goes as a mortal to the Upperworld to try and win Therese's heart, but not all the gods are happy. Some give her gifts. Others try to kill her.

The deal requires Therese to avenge the death of her parents. With the help of Than’s fierce and exotic sisters, the Furies, she finds herself in an arena face to face with the murderer, and only one will survive.

MY REVIEW
The Gatekeeper's Sons

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Therese witness her parents death in a tragic accident while sitting in the back seat of the car with them. While being close to death herself and in a coma she sees the god of death Thanatos aka Than take her parents to the underworld. Thersese also meets Than's twin brother Hypnos aka Hyp the god of sleep. Than and Hyp are the twin sons of Hades.

Therese kisses Than which is a very big surprise to him. No one ever pays attention to Than because of his job of taking souls and helping them to cross over to the underworld. With this kiss Therese has managed to make Than fall in love with her. Than makes a deal with his father Hades to let him go to the upperworld and try to win Therese's love. Than wants to make her a god so that they can live happily ever after for all eternity. Therese falls in love with Than and will do whatever is necessary for the two of them to be together for eternity.

Hades says she can be a god if she avenges the death of her parents. Therese has to find the person responsible for her parents death and kill that person. Therese is a very loving and caring person. She loves all life and holds it sacred. She accepts Hades challenge because of the state of mind that she happens to be in at the time. The hurt of losing her parents and feeling as if she is alone in the world puts her in a different state of mine where she wants and believes that the person responsible for their death deserves to die to pay for what he has done. Being in this state of mind and wanting to be with Than causes Therese to feel hate and bitterness toward him. She wants him dead too and she wants to be the one to kill him. Will she kill the person responsible for the death of her parents? Is Therese have in it her to commit murder?

I really loved reading The Gatekeeper's Sons with all the greek gods and goddess. I've read reviews of books about greek gods and goddess and in some of the reviews the reviewers were mentioning where they were taught about the gods and goddess in school. If it was taught at my school I don't remember it. So therefore I love learning about all the gods and goddess. I liked learning or knowing that they be a god of death someone who helps souls cross over. Maybe making their journey more bearable for them.

If you like reading about gods and goddess then I think this is the book for you. Have you read The Goddess Test? If you have and you enjoyed it then you will love The Gatekeeper's Sons.

Blog Tour: The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper By Etta King ( Interview + Giveaway)

3 Day Book Bash
The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper
by Etta King

About The Author:

Etta King is the author of the Caspian University novels, a series chronicling the life and times of a group of wealthy teens who inevitably discover the various flavors of college drama. Etta writes from her personal experiences as a college co-ed and as the product of an all-girls prep school. Here she witnessed the very eccentricities and foibles which she depicts in her novels.

In a home filled with books, it was no surprise that Etta grew to be an avid reader, and that translated into writing when she was thirteen. She wrote simply for the fun of it, whatever would come to mind, from fantasy to thriller to romance, and shared her stories with her friends.

In 2010, at twenty-one and just as she was about to graduate from college, Etta began writing "The Life and Times of Elizabeth and the Duchess." This was a story which had first taken shape in 2008, after her freshman year, but had been put on hold. With graduation looming, Etta recalled the characters, and the events which had inspired them, and took pen to paper. Literally, as Etta enjoys writing out her stories before typing them out. Soon the first book had been completed and the series was born.

"The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper," comes as the sequel to "Elizabeth and the Duchess," and serves as the second semester of these teens' college saga. Etta is currently working on the third book, in what will be an eight-part series.

Etta King lives with her family in Westchester, New York.

Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Publisher: CreateSpace
Release Date: 11/28/12

They say college is a lot of things; a haven, a four-year party, the place you met the girl - or guy - of your dreams. What they don't tell you is, the best part of college is the drama YOU bring to the table! After all, that dirty little secret, that not-so-little white lie, and those texts you wish you could erase from cyberspace can't stay hidden forever. At CU, someone's always watching, and you better hope there isn't a camera phone on hand when you get caught.
It's the Spring Semester, but it's not all fun in the budding sun for Jon and Franz. Follow them as they delve through the politics of secret societies, the inevitable drama of the F-word (that's FAMILY, for the uninitiated), creepy Resident Advisors, creepier residents and girls who don't always say what they mean. Who wouldn't need two months to recuperate?

Cheers! And GL!

Excerpt:

Jonathan
I woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating on the floor. I scooted out of bed, trying not to wake Elizabeth as I went to pick it up. I missed it and I saw four missed calls. All from Chadwick. Crap, it was six thirty-seven. I called him back and made my way to my bathroom, while it rang.
"Hey," I said when he picked up. "Sorry, about that; you were on the phone when we went upstairs."
"Yeah, that's okay, I'm home. Look, Jon, I'm going to say this just this once and then I won't say it again." I got an ominous feeling and leaned against the sink, ignoring the cold marble.
"Okay…"
"Judith," he began and I bit down on my groan. If ever I was tired of hearing one person's name in a day.
"I don't care what it is you did, I really don't."
"I didn't do anything."
"Whatever. Just don't do anything else."
"What?" I couldn't help the irritation creeping into my voice.
"Nothing else, okay? Just don't lead her on, don't mess with her."
"What the hell do you think I did?"
"Honestly? I think you hooked up with her and never called her back. Or maybe you did and she didn't understand how you worked." How I worked??
"Jesus, Chad, seriously?"
"Look, I'm not judging you."
"Are you drunk?"
"I'm not judging you, I just want you to leave her alone, okay?"
I was silent; what the absolute fuck had Judith said to Chad? What was her problem anyway? Three weeks was all it had been, for God's sake.
"I didn't do anything to her, Chad."
"So why is she calling me and crying?"
I massaged my temple and shook my head.
"Because she's Judith, Chad. Because I haven't told her about Elizabeth and I, and I don't feel like calling her and skipping that conversation, so I'd rather just not. Because yes, she called me, called my house, sent me messages, but all I want is for her to calm down and stop acting like I'm Judas. Because yeah, we're friends and she feels that means she has exclusive rights to my number. Because…" My God, I could go on and on.
"Not because you hooked up with her?"
"She told you that?"
"You're not saying you didn't."
"This is not about hooking up. I don't understand why she's so anxious to talk to me, but that's pretty much it. I'm just not ready."
"You're an ass, Jon. You're my friend, but you're an ass."

INTERVIEW
Etta King

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper?

Etta King: Well, I was inspired by my freshman year in college; it took me by surprise, how so much could happen in so little time. There were parallel stories in my year and that laid the foundation for the series and the way these books are being written. The first book, The Life and Times of Elizabeth and the Duchess, was written from the perspective of the girls in this series, Elizabeth and Judith. This book, The Life and Times of the Heir and the Keeper, is more so the guys' story. Jonathan and Francis get their time in the limelight and, if I do say so, they have as much drama as the girls. The entire series will chronicle their college experience, from start to finish, as each character grows or even stays the same. Once I had the idea, the story just kept building and my imagination basically ran wild. I enjoy writing about these characters; they are like old friends that I can come to at any time, and, even better, I discover new things about them each time.

.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Etta King: I think I wrote first when I was 12 and it was a historical romance story, which I lost - tragically - that got me started. I began writing based on all the little stories I'd come up with through the years and I just couldn't stop. I would write wherever I was on whatever blank piece of paper was in front of me. I've found bits of stories in the oddest places, from school notebooks to napkins.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Etta King: I remember reading a picture book called "Janet and John" when I was probably a little older than three. I only remember the year because I had been practicing writing the year 1993. The book consisted of "Janet saw John," "John saw Janet," "Janet and John are friends," and probably some middle parts that I can't remember haha!

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Etta King: Oooh, I have a list: Historical Romance > Fantasy > Young Adult Contemporary > Mystery > Thriller > Anything fun and well written. Of course I love reading, so it's difficult to choose sometimes, but, there, I've made a definitive list!

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Etta King: Emma would have to be my favorite book! She's Jane Austen's best work as far as I'm concerned and she reminds me of me in a lot of ways. She's always involved in the most dramatic situations, she has a somewhat troublesome need to help people and she has a penchant for tall dark and handsome men! :

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Etta King: I've always said I don't play favorites, but I suppose I can pick two. Ha, yes, I know I'm not playing by the rules, I'm "maverick-y" like that. First, Georgette Heyer - the undisputed queen of historical romance - and then Lisi Harrison - who has somehow got me hooked on The Clique - oh when will the next book come out? The former, because her use of language is brilliant and the latter because she's just fun to read.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Etta King: Egypt circa 250 BC. Why? Well nineteenth century England has been done. Or perhaps Greece, same time? There's something beautiful about the time, and wild…which is compelling.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Etta King: If I want to write, it's extremely easy; I know the story, so I'm practically transcribing from my mind. I think I'm very lucky in that, I'm glad for it.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Etta King: I don't but I'd either want a Husky or a Yorkie; I'm very much inclined to extremes :.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Etta King: Thai food, hands down. Also, anything with mushrooms and/or beef.

.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Etta King: I would say, just keep writing…but more practical advice would be to join a site like Fictionpress.com and "let the words flow." You get reviews, some constructive, some…not so much…but you also get to see what other people - that don't know you - think of your writing.

MY REVIEW

Death Inception

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review.

Death Inception is the first book that I have read in The Death Series and it is also the first book that I have read by Tamara Rose Blodgett. It definitely won't be the last of The Death Series or the last book of her's that I read. I definitely plan on reading all The Death Series this year plus more of her works in the near future.

I really, really loved the new twist that Tamara Rose Blodgett put upon the zombies. I mean the way that they actually became a zombie. I love reading zombie books and it is very awesome when you find a new kind of zombie book to read.

When I started reading Death Inception with the two time differences at first I was like what does Clyde's world have to do with Jeffrey's world? How will the two blend in together? But it didn't take me long to know and understand how their two worlds/lives would interact. I loved how Tamara Rose Blodgett intertwined their stories.

Jeffrey was forced into a world that he had no knowledge of much less wanted to be a part of. But that is how the government usually works they don't care how or what you feel about anything. All they want is for you to do exactly what they say to do or want you to do. If it will make them richer that is all they care about is the money.

Jeffrey is forced into this world that he wants no part of but has no choice but to do what he is told to do. But the Graysheet people doesn't know Jeffrey as well as they think they do. Jeffrey is way smarter than they think and is only making them believe that he is doing everything they want.

When Jeffrey learns that they have another child a boy who has the same abilities as he does or at least they maybe similar as his. Jeffrey makes a promise to himself that he will not let them do to this little boy what they have done to him. Jeffrey has plans of his own that the Graysheets has no knowledge of. Jeffrey plans on blowing their minds with what he can do when the time is right.

Clyde is a boxer that only wants to make the money he needs to take care of his girlfriend and baby when it is born. Clyde's girlfriend doesn't like him fighting but it is the only way Clyde knows to make fast money so that he can give her and their unborn child the life they deserve. Clyde is the best boxer around for miles but as they say they is always someone out there better than you are and to never get to cocky. Which Clyde never actually did get too cocky but he was good and he knew it.

Review: Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1)

Title: Under the Never Sky

Author: Veronica Rossi

Series: Under the Never Sky #1

Published: January 3rd 2012

Publisher: HarperCollins

Hardcover

Pages: 374

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

Under the Never Sky

Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered. This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile - everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

MY REVIEW

Under the Never Sky

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review.

Aria has never been on the outside where the Aether storm that destroyed the earth are still raging. Aria lives in a pod, the enclosed city of Reverie, a world where almost nothing is real. Aria is what the people who live in the outside world call a dweller. Aria and everyone else that live in the futuristic world of the pods call the people who live on the outside, who were not as fortunate as they were, savages or outsiders.

When Aria and some of her friends cut themselves off from the realms and the others in the pods and go outside. Aria is witness to two of her friends being murdered and the guy that killed her friends is the son of one of the men who run Reverie. To keep his son from being punished and taking responsibility for his crimes Aria is sent out of the pod to fend for herself in the outside world which they also call The Death Shop.

Aria never having been outside in the real world with the violent Aether storms taking place almost all the time has no clue as how to survive. She has never seen a tree, bird, snow or even a rock before and is very enthusiastic about everything she sees. She wants to touch it to see what it feels like.

On the outside Aria meets Perry whom she believes is a savage, someone who is riddled with disease. Right away Aria and Perry dislike each other greatly. How could they like each other with all that they have been taught about the other? Neither one of them has ever stopped to think that just because they are different it doesn't make them bad people. But it is all they know. What they have been taught by their elders is all the knowledge they have of each other. They have been taught to hate anyone that is not like them.

But they each find out real quick that they need each other to get what they want. Aria wants to go back to her home in the pods and needs Perry to survive in a world that she has never seen before. Perry needs Aria to help him get his nephew Talon back who was taken by Aria's people. In the beginning they can't stand each other but as time goes on and they spend more and more time together they each discover that just because they are different they are both still good people and have a lot of love and care in their hearts.

What I really liked about Under the Never Sky was that it had two different worlds. One world where people live in like a futuristic world and then others lived as if they had gone back to the days where there was no electricity, gas, stoves or refrigerators. They lived off the land as they did many, many years ago. I liked how that Veronica showed that just because people are different they could still live together and love one another the same. Under the Never Sky is one of those books that will still be with you for a very long time after close the book on the last page. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series Through the Ever Night.

Waterfall

It's easy to fall in love. Destiny requires tooth and claw.

Curses are designed to be cruel, but the one afflicting Jordan and his brothers is almost beyond bearing. A dragon born by blood magic, he is an immortal trapped in human form, with only one hope of finding his eternal mate. He must bite her-and pray she lives.

One dark night, he senses the wounded heartbeat of a woman in the shadows, begging him to end her life. Ever the gentleman, he chivalrously obliges her wish. Only to discover three days later that she lives. And has married another.

Celeste always dreamed of marrying for love, but the nightmare of living in her father's home drives her to wed the Duke of Hudson. Yet on her wedding eve, she is compelled to follow a mysterious man who professes to know her secret. A man with curious blue scales on his muscular arms-whose shadowed eyes reflect a dangerous mix of destiny and desire…

Warning: This novel contains explicit sex, sex in water, four super-hot dragon brothers, and a curse born from magical power that has left them wondering who they are all their lives.

EXCERPT

Waterfall

Carefully stepping around scattered, fractured boards, trunks and lengths of tangled rope, Jordan and Ferrous neared the last grouping of rocks at the trees' edge. Jordan sighed. About time.

A faint heartbeat crawled out of the obscure shadows, stalked up his spine. Something lived from this bloody mess. Though barely.

Jordan stilled.

Ferrous turned to the left. "I feel it too."

Jordan followed.

On the opposite side of the rocks, jagged boards bumped, clattering against a boulder. A mass of tangled human remains bobbed and swayed with each lap of water against the shore.

From this mess, a heartbeat cried. Jordan closed his eyes and sighed as his stomach flipped. He would find it. He stepped into the water amid the carnage and shuddered. I must move as hastily as possible. I can do this. The sound of life grasped him as if a hand itself clasped his flesh. He flinched, then turned to the left.

An arm's length away, half in the water, lay a woman. Her limbs were twisted and broken, as if made of nothing more than weeds. A man's head, severed from the body it had once belonged to, floated close to her hand. Jordan's heart pinched, and the scales on his elbows prickled anew.

No one deserved to be half alive after experiencing a tragedy such as this. He stepped up next to her, knocking the human debris away with his boot. He leaned down and wrapped one hand about her slim, bare shoulders. The other he slid beneath her knees, fisting up a handful of her full skirts. She should have drowned in such a garment. He lifted her, pulling her body up against his.

She hung like a sack of barley in his grasp. Her long, wet skirts and hair trailed cold water in a stream, trickling over the rocks and babbling down into his boots. He turned and stumbled along the slag toward the trees.

Ferrous turned after him. "She won't live, Jordan." He strode behind him. "Leave her."

Her clothing, laden with seawater, soaked his coat in blood. Was it hers or the rotting blood of the pool in which she had lain? He shook his head. Don't think about the stench. He grimaced. Think about her.

Ferrous was right. She would never live.

He fell to his knees and laid her on the high grass that bordered the trees. Her dress was that of an aristocrat, finely tailored with small pearls and embroidery now torn open down to her flesh in several places. Her hair had been swept up with the sun, golden rays that now hid beneath a cloud of red death. "I will end her suffering." Yes, that was the correct thing to do.

"For bloody sake, Jordan. You are not to indulge unless you have an inkling she may be the one. There are no exceptions to our rules. Look what happens to Ilmir when he breaks one. Who knows what calamity awaits us in London."

Jordan's jaw clenched, and he narrowed his eyes, refusing to look at Ferrous, who stood behind him. "This is different, and you damn well know it. I am not Ilmir, and she is not a woman I am courting. She is dying."

"Being chivalrous?" Ferrous threw up his hands, grumbled and walked through the trees back toward the shore. "Make haste. I wish to make this hellish scene vanish this hellish scene and be to London to deal with Ilmir."

Did Ferrous truly think he wanted to do this? To kill another woman was the last thing he wished. Twenty years had passed… Jordan inhaled a deep breath and blew it out between tense lips. He ran his fingers down her pale cheek and around her chin, tilting her face toward his. A slender nose, full, angelic lips, and noble cheekbones. A beauty. "To a better afterlife, dear."

He raised her chin, exposing her long, graceful neck and faintly beating pulse. Another death…

Dash it. He stared unblinking at the slight flutter of her blood beneath her skin. Relax, Jordan. He closed his eyes and exhaled. All will be well.

Prickling pain clawed through the roof of his mouth as his two pointed teeth extended into thin slivers of bone. He stared down at her neck. She had been floating in blood and seawater. He spit on her neck, twice. His saliva glimmered as it slid down her throat to the grass below. There, that should wash away the dirt she had stewed in. Or would it? His throat tightened. Don't lick her. Be done with it.

He leaned in and pressed his teeth to her vein. His mouth opened, saliva pooled heavily, and his tongue thickened. The pouches by his back teeth filled with poisonous blood, forcing his jaw still wider. He inhaled a jagged breath. His heart leapt and pounded, vibrating through his entire being…

Bite her, Jordan. Be done with it. Bite her.

Her faint pulse bumped against his teeth, willing him to take her as his mate. Mate? Well, that urge was pointless. She would pass just as swiftly as the others. He rolled his lip back and hissed, then pressed, slicing through her soft, salty outer skin and into her tepid blood flowing below.

She didn't flinch.

This was the first time he had taken a woman when he was not passionately joined with her. Odder yet not to have her scream. To have her do nothing but lie on the wilted grass.

He swallowed. Dirt be damned, he needed to taste her and know that one essence of the life he now took. He fluttered his tongue on her smooth skin. Warm, salty blood slid thickly down his tongue. Damn. His muscles quivered as his poisonous blood streamed from his pouches and down his teeth, twisting into her veins. His cock pressed painfully hard against his thigh.

The task was done. There would be no more. He would not take his pleasure in her. He would not know the feel of her flesh against his. He would never know her favorite color. This woman, like all the others who had come before, was not meant to be his. Enough!

He growledand opened his mouth wide. Her soft flesh slipped from his fangs. He pulled his head back, and their mixed blood trailed in streams down her neck and dress. His vision shifted and popped. Adrenaline mixed with power bubbled through his veins. This…this, he had missed.

This was what he was meant to be. His full elemental power at a glimpse. He tossed his hair back and then growled a dragon's cry up to where the moon should hang in a radiant, colored vision. Yet only the ebony fog resided tonight. There was no moon to lighten this scene. His vision rippled with detailed clarity. Ah. Indeed. This was the power that years of existence without his mate had diminished. He wanted this power back. It had been too long. In a burst of speckled light, everything changed back to somber mist. Bloody hell. His throat closed off, and his eyes burned. No! He swallowed hard, and his shoulders sagged. This was a tease. A temptation.

He closed his eyes and shook his head. He would never know more of what the Zir were than this… Death and a glimpse of the exhilarating power they were destined to have.

He inhaled and smelled her metallic, sweet blood on his lips. His tongue traced his teeth and upper lip, gathering up the enslaving essence. Sweet orange blossoms and candied cherries. His made-up version of what she should taste like. Remember her. His jaw trembled as hot blood pounded through him to his groin. His soul wanted more of her. To mate. To love. To live a lifetime of companionship.

He clenched his teeth, and his fangs pierced his lower lip. You have done enough to end her suffering. Quite enough. Let her be. He opened his eyes once more.

A shadow shaped as Ferrous stood head down and arms straight out in the air at the rocks' edge. "Make haste. I wait no more."

Jordan placed her head softly back on the grass. "Will scant be a moment more of pain, beauty." He trailed his hand down her broken arm to a heavy, thick bracelet looping her wrist. He unclasped the chain and slowly rubbed the metal between his fingers. His token of her death. He tucked the jewelry in his inner coat pocket, then rose to his full height. Turning to his left, he skulked into the inky woods.

MY REVIEW

Waterfall

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Waterfall is about four brothers who are half-dragon and half-human with powers that they are unable to use until they find their mate. They have lived for hundreds of years without either one of them finding their mate. When they find their mate it will unleash their magical powers.

Jordan and one of his brothers Ferrous finds a ship wrecked on an island. Out of all the passengers on the ship they only hear one heart beat. Jordan finds her all broken and bleeding and wants to make her dying less painful for her. He bites her and believes that the poison from his bite will kill her and make her suffering less. But he later sees her at a friend's wedding and she is the bride. Jordan is surprised to see that she is still alive and that she is now the Duchess of Hudson.

Jordan knows that she is his mate and is determined that they will be together. He thinks all he has to do his have a little conversation with the Duke and everything will be ok. He will have his mate and live happily ever after. But things don't happen that easily in real life. Jordan is in for a real surprise concerning the Duke of Hudson. The Duke of Hudson is not the person that Jordan and his brothers has always believed him to be.

Celeste the Duchess of Hudson who is also Jordan's mate has had a hard life. A father who was very abusive to her through out her whole life. Celeste wants to do what she needs to do to make her father happy but at the same time she knows that he is wrong and whats to do what makes her happy. She feels guilty if she doesn't do what her father whats her to do. This is the very reason she marries the Duke because it its what her father has arranged for her.

On the day of her wedding Celeste sees Jordan and knows immediately that he is the one that she loves the one that she wants to be with. She realizes that she is going to have to stop making her father happen and make herself happy instead. She thinks that she will never be with him though because she has just married the Duke. So therefore she can never be with him. But what Celeste and everyone else does not know is that Jordan will do what ever it takes to get Celeste she is his mate and they are destined to be together.

Waterfall is a quick read with a lot of twist and turns but I would like to have known more about Celeste, Jordan and his brothers like who they were and how they became who and what they are. Who and what did the Duke of Hudson become? Who turned the Duke into what he became?

BLURB

Haunted Laird

Lynn's ghost-hunting trip in Scotland takes an unpleasant turn when she's kidnapped from her camp by a group of men rambling about curses and a brotherhood. In a daring escape, Lynn falls over a cliff and awakens in a cave being guarded by a ghost, who insists she's the key to freeing a man who has been cast in stone by an evil curse. And what a man he is…

Padon has been imprisoned for over two centuries, frozen in stone. He is awoken when a sexy siren recites the anti-curse, but he is only partially free. Stone by day, man by night. Passion ignites between him and his savior immediately, which makes falling to the curse each morning that much harder. He and Lynn seek a resolution by making the trek to Padon's family castle. But the kidnappers have other plans and will do whatever they must to make sure this couple never makes it to their destination.

EXCERPT

Haunted Laird

She looked through the thinnest area of the waterfall and focused on the statue. Light from the menagerie of lanterns Jasper had provided shone on the stone surface, giving it an oddly beautiful appeal. Lynn felt compelled to speak the verse as she stood in the mist of the falling water.

"Ceum saor de clach

Be Ye Biast air duine

'Tis Gaol dara slighe

Ge Ye be mèinne

Dh'oidche mur dh'là"

Seeing nothing happen, a slight bit of disappointment filled her. She took a breath and leaned her head into the more rapid pulse of the waterfall and rinsed the suds from her hair and body. Lynn stepped back from the stream, brushing the hair and water from her eyes. The moment she regained her focus, she froze. The gasp lodged in her throat.

Was she dreaming?

When he woke, the realization he was no longer at Castle MacKinnon hit him in the chest with an invisible solid blow. What happened? Where was he? And most importantly, where was his family?

Padon stumbled forward with his sword held tightly, ready to strike. MacGillivray was behind this. He felt most certain that dark-eyed devil lingered near. He swung around, trying to gain his bearings. Shock shook him to the core as he recognized his surroundings.

He was in the hunting cave. But how? Last he remembered he was aiming to kill MacGillivray for attacking his brathairs. Padon surveyed the area for any signs of life, knowing only he and Jasper knew of this cave's location. Jasper had to be behind his being here.

He shook his head. Had it been a dream? Try as he might he couldn't remember clearly what had happened. Had he been on a hunting trip with Jasper, drunk too much and dreamed the whole brathairs-turned-to-stone-by-MacGillivray scenario? The tension in his chest eased a tad but not entirely. He lowered his sword and knelt by the stream, cupping some water for a drink, hoping to wash away the severely dusty sensation from his mouth.

He had barely swallowed when he saw her. A vision most beautiful stood washing her hair in the waterfall. 'Twas it a dream? He splashed the water on his face and blinked but she still remained. How had she gotten here? No woman had ever ventured into their hunting cave.

"Go to her. She is your salvation."

The words whispered to his ears in the sound of his friend Jasper's voice. He jumped to his feet and spun around but didn't see him. Anger, confusion and fear mixed within him. What the hell was going on? What sort of sorcery was this? Hearing voices but seeing no one… He slowly turned to the vixen who now stood staring at him from the other side of the waterfall. No one was here but her.

Maybe she had the answers he sought, since Jasper seemed to be playing games with him.

Taking deliberate steps, he shortened the distance. Before entering the water, he set his sword on a large rock and dropped his kilt to the ground. No need getting his only clothing wet while he interrogated the woman. He smiled inwardly, knowing he was no small man and being naked only added to his intimidation strategy. At least that's what he hoped when it came to the weaker sex. Determined to get answers, he forged through the water and onto the ledge.

Coming face-to-face with her rattled his fierce demeanor. She was not simply a woman, but a gorgeous specimen of female flesh. Though she tried to cover herself with her hands, she failed miserably. He doubted even his oversized hands would hide those scrumptiously large breasts. Taut pink nipples peeked from beneath the arm and hand that attempted to shield them. Instant hunger pitted in his stomach for a sample of their flavor.

Her other arm and hand did their best to cover the treasure between her thighs. It disappointed him to not get even a glimpse of her mound. Would she balk if he removed her hand so he could see? Padon shook off the idea. He needed answers, not sex. But his body pleaded otherwise as his shaft stirred to life. The awakening of his senses kept him perusing her attributes and muddled his thoughts with desire.

Though she was short in stature, she made up for it with her incredibly voluptuous figure as far as he was concerned. If her bottom was round and filled his hands, she'd be perfect. Absently he flexed his palms, curling his fingers in and out as if he could somehow feel her there without actually touching her. It didn't help ease the growing tension in his bawls for this woman. Being in her presence made him remember he was a man as his cock twitched and stiffened even more.

Padon forced his gaze to lift from her assets and look upon her face. Its shape was that of a cherubic angel. Auburn curls carelessly framed her features. Her lips trembled and it pained him to read fear in her bright-blue eyes. In an attempt to calm her, he reached to cup her cheek but she leaned away from his touch. He dug deep to find his voice and hoped it came across soothing.

"I will nay hurt thee, mi wee one. I only ask thee for answers."

FIRST CHAPTER

Haunted Laird

By the time they finally took a break, Lynn had heard enough. The three men bickered worse than a group of old women sitting around with nothing to do but complain about what ailed them. She still couldn't believe one of them was Fin, Travis' partner at MacShain's Guided Tours. The tour company she'd employed to explore the greatest haunted locations in Scotland. If she'd known one of them was a kidnapper, she never would have joined their group.

Travis! Where was Travis? He'd completely slipped her mind. What had they done with him? It made her stomach churn not knowing if her friend were dead or alive. Though she'd listened closely to every word they'd said, they never mentioned what happened to him. And she had been so intent on fighting them when they took her captive, she hadn't noticed if he lay unconscious or in a pool of blood at their campsite.

She fidgeted but couldn't move much being they'd tied her hands and feet, then secured her to a makeshift litter with the sleeping bag from her tent that they wrapped thick tape around until she was wedged tight. All she could think when she looked at the contraption they had her in was one word. Papoose. She was being hauled up a mountain in a giant papoose. They'd covered her mouth with a piece of the same tape so she couldn't scream. Though she tired, she couldn't push it off with her tongue or wiggle her lips enough to loosen it.

So she resolved herself to lie there, listen, and reserve her strength. They were bound to make a mistake and when they did, she planned to use it to her advantage and escape.

Fin had hidden his face at the campsite she shared with Travis, by keeping his hood tucked low over his head so she didn't get a good look at him then. Now he didn't even try to hide from her as she glared at him while he carried the foot end of her prison. The other two, named Lonnie and Timothy, she couldn't see well from her position. One of them was at the head end of the litter while the other apparently led the way. From what she'd overheard, she was beginning to piece together some of what they were up to, but still didn't understand why it involved kidnapping her.

What did they want with an American from Texas?

If they planned to ransom her off, the joke was on them. Her family wasn't rich. The only surviving blood-related member was her sister, who was married to a small town pharmacist and they had a set of triplets. Definitely no money left there. Absently she shook her head. As to her, when Eddie died, he left her comfortable but not extremely wealthy by any means. If she lived frugally, which she did, the money would last for years. So as far as exchanging her for money, they were out of luck, but she didn't think they had taken her for money. There was this one thing they spoke of several times.

Who or what was this brotherhood they mentioned?

Lynn inhaled deeply through her nose. Apparently this brotherhood wanted something they were willing to pay steeply to obtain and didn't care what methods were taken to get it. But these guys were out of their minds if they thought she had anything of worth for this brotherhood. She doubted it was her they wanted. It sounded like something was hidden somewhere on this mountain. If they thought she knew where it was, they were crazy.

Unless… She scrolled through everything she'd learned so far. What if they were after something in the cave Travis was taking her to visit? Had they captured her as a trade-off for the cave's location? Did they think that particular cave held whatever it was they were looking for? Did they think Travis shared the coordinates with her and she'd be able to lead them there? Questions tumbled through her head as she swallowed the lump of growing fear in her throat. She didn't know anything. She closed her eyes, wishing she'd never taken Travis' offer to introduce her to a ghost.

She lay there reliving the conversation she'd had with Travis several nights earlier. She must have looked like the biggest sucker going sitting across the table from Travis at a pub after their tour of the underground vaults. Lynn inwardly reprimanded herself for hanging on to his every word as he'd shared his tale of a night he'd spent in a cave with an ancient Scotsman's specter. Travis claimed he would take her there and she'd be able to communicate with a ghost. The one thing she had yet to achieve in all her years of seeing apparitions was actually speaking with the dead and somehow he'd figured that out and used it against her.

Had he noticed her reactions to the lingering souls wandering the vaults? There had been so many, she felt certain she hadn't been able to suppress her excitement from her facial expressions. Had he read her desires and played her for a fool? Throughout the tour, she'd noticed Travis seemed to watch her more intently than any of the others. At the pub, he'd explained he'd been waiting for the right person with which to share his spiritual find. She'd fallen for it completely and even did her best to assure him she was the one he needed, a true believer in everything paranormal.

Was he somehow a part of this whole kidnapping ploy? Lynn shivered inwardly. She hadn't thought of that before. Was Travis not really her friend but an instigator in this ruse to capture an American? She couldn't think straight as ideas of subterfuge and dastardly deeds tormented her thoughts. No! She refused to believe ill of Travis. He was innocent in this whole scenario.

Damn! The predicament she'd managed to get herself into all in the name of ghost chasing. This addiction of hers was finally going to get her killed.

"Lonnie," Timothy griped, loudly. Lynn stirred from her musings and concentrated on their conversation, hoping for a thread of information she could use in her favor. "We need a break. Carrying this chick up the mountain isn't easy."

"Yeah," Fin chimed in, "when's your turn ta help carry her?"

"Quit your grousing," Lonnie snapped. "We don't have much farther and we'll be at the campsite."

"This better be worth it," Fin stated heatedly. "The society offered a tidy sum. How do we know this brotherhood will keep their promise? The society will pay, there's no question there. But this brotherhood seems a bit shady ta me."

"You've pointed that out before, Fin. How many times I got ta tell you?" Lonnie's growing frustration was evident in his tone. "Me and Tim helped save Brother Leod from a fire at a club in London. He promised ta make us rich if we joined his group."

Lynn felt the foot of the litter lower as Fin set her down. He moved to stand face to face with Lonnie, who now stood near her shoulder. It was apparent he was the one in charge of this operation. She could sense the tension between them. This was something she could use to her advantage. Fin didn't speak much during the week of her guided tour through the haunts of Edinburgh. He'd let his partner Travis do all the tour guide stuff while he drove the bus. Now he didn't seem to hold his tongue.

"I just find it mighty strange this Brother Leod knows so much about the clan we swore ta protect."

"We," Lonnie screeched, leaning to within millimeters of Fin's face. "I don't know about you, but I took no oath. It was a fairy tale, a myth handed down from our forefathers that suckered us into believing in a curse on a clan that no longer exists."

"It must be some truth behind it or why would so many before us stand together united?" Lynn saw Fin's stance change as if making ready to fight. "And best o' all, why would this newfound friend o' yours be so interested in what the society protects? Think maybe he's up ta no good?"

Lonnie shook as he waved his hands in the air in frustration. "I think you be backing out on us, Fin. You be in too tight with the society." He poked Fin in the chest with his forefinger as he bellowed, "Are you with us or are you not? You might want ta be thinking about it afore you answer." He nodded toward the side of the path that was a steep drop-off into a ravine.

"Looks ta be a mighty long fall."

Fin's shoulders tightened and it appeared as if he reined in his anger, taking a step back. She heard his heavy exhale as he replied, "I'm in."

"Good," Lonnie spat back at him. "Now pick up your end and let's get going."

Lynn couldn't help but wonder about Fin's connection with these two.

Silence fell between them, which gave her time to sort through the limited details. Apparently they all belonged to some sort of society sworn to protect some nonexistent clan. Lonnie had a new friend with lots of money and a desire to own something the society protected. But what? None of them had let that slip.

Fin wouldn't look at her. Instead his gaze seemed to glance occasionally behind him as if expecting to see someone there at any moment. Travis maybe? Momentarily a spark of hope for his safety gave her an instant of relief that Travis might be tracking them or gone for help. When Fin wasn't looking behind, his eyes stayed straightforward and she could only imagine the hole his glare would bore through Lonnie's back if he had such a power.

And from what she'd figured out, Timothy did whatever Lonnie told him to do. So even if Fin had changed his mind about being a part of this team, he was out-numbered. She focused on Fin. He was the weak link. Something didn't seem right with him and this little adventure. Something she hoped she could twist in her favor when the time was right.

It was after dark when they reached the designated campsite on the ridge. Tents were already erected. It appeared as if they had set up camp before they invaded her campsite and took her captive. They set her down. Timothy stacked wood in the pit to build a fire. Fin disappeared into one of the two tents. Lonnie plopped onto a large rock beside the pit.

When Fin came out of his tent carrying a lit lantern, she tried to talk against the tape to get his attention. Though it was nothing more than a mumbled noise, he squatted beside her and sat the lantern on the ground near her head. In a low tone, he spoke to her, "I'm going ta remove the tape. If you scream, I'll have ta put it back. You no going ta scream are you?"

Lynn shook her head and he slowly removed the tape from her mouth. She wiggled her jaw and wet her lips. It felt good to have that off her face. Now if she could just get him to unwrap the tape that bound her to the stretcher and release her arms from behind her back her shoulders would be forever grateful.

"Can you untie me please?" she asked softly, "I need to go to the bathroom."

Fin glanced at his partners then pulled out a pocketknife and started cutting the tape. He hadn't gotten far when Lonnie jumped up and ran over to him.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Fin didn't stop. He continued cutting without looking up from his task. "The lass is in need o' a bathroom break."

Lonnie commanded, "Then she's your responsibility. Make sure she doesn't get away." He turned on his heels and stomped over to the other tent and went inside.

"Real friendly guy," Lynn stated coolly. Fin smiled at her wisecrack and the tension in the back of her neck eased. Once he freed the tape from across the sleeping bag, he lifted it off her and helped her sit upright. After cutting the tape binding her ankles, he untied the rope from around her wrists.

"You okay ta stand?"

"I think so. I'm a little stiff."

"Here, I'll help you," Fin offered as he took her hands and guided her to her feet.

Lynn's legs were fine. She wiggled her toes in her boots trying to loosen the tightness in her ankles. Rolling her shoulders and moving her fingers helped relieve the dead sensation and numbness in her arms and hands. The small of her back ached from lying on her hands balled beneath her. The only good thing from being carried up the mountain, she'd laid there listening, learning their motives and reserving her energy. As soon as the tingling quit in her arms and feet, she knew she'd be ready to make a break for it.

She took a step toward the trees when Fin cut her off. "Nay, lassie. I've got ta keep you from running." He held a longer rope, which he secured around her waist.

"Really," Lynn said with her eyebrow cocked and a hand on the rope.

"It's either this or I hold your hand while you pee," Fin stated point-blank. Lynn opened her mouth to protest then shut it. He was serious. He grabbed the lantern and held it out so she could see where she was going.

They walked several feet away from the tents. Fin stopped her and turned her to face him. He hung the lantern on a branch so it bathed the area in a low glow. He took hold of her hands as he spoke in a whispered tone so only she could hear.

"Listen, Lynn. Things are not as they seem. Please abide by Lonnie's rules for now and I'll see ta it you make it home safe."

Lynn swallowed her excitement. She was right about Fin. He really wasn't part of this, but somehow had gotten roped into it. Keeping her voice low and her tone even she asked, "Why are you helping them?"

"That be a question I cannot answer now." He nodded toward the campsite. "You best be doing your business quickly or Lonnie just might come looking for us. He may not be the brightest but he does have a mean streak."

She nodded and scooted behind the trees out of his view. Indecision warred with her insides as she relieved herself while at the same time loosening the rope. She wasn't a liar, she really had to go but she had no intentions of missing the opportunity to escape. When she stood and secured her jeans, she turned and walked face first into a hand over her mouth and an arm around her waist.

"Don't scream, Lynn. It's me, Travis," he whispered in her ear.

Fear filled her. In her panic, his words didn't register. She bit his hand and kneed him in the family jewels. Adrenaline rushed making her run faster than she'd ever run in her life. Limbs slapped her face and left behind stinging scratches. Darkness surrounded her, only the occasional light from the stars and moon filtered through the canopy of trees. Limited line-of-sight didn't stop her. She kept on running. Several times she tripped and miraculously she managed to stay on her feet, blindly grabbing hold of branches or trees to break her fall.

Voices echoed behind her making her push onward even though she gasped for air. Her lungs hurt. There wasn't an uncovered patch of skin that didn't burn from being attacked by objects in the dark. She knew if she didn't slow down she was going to get severely injured. When she couldn't hear the voices behind her anymore, she slowed to a stop and bent over with her hands on her knees trying to clear her head and breathe.

Wheezing in and out, she thought she was going to be sick even though her stomach was empty. Her capturers hadn't fed her. Dizziness made her head spin, causing her to crumble to her knees. Uncontrollable tears gushed and for the first time since the whole thing started, she felt completely helpless. Sob after sob croaked from deep inside her before she finally curled into a ball on the soft forest floor.

She lay there for several minutes more, trying to calm her frazzled nerves. The sensation of warmth cocooned her, soothing her, clearing her thoughts as the faint sound of her dead husband's voice flowed inside her head. Think, Lynn. Think. There's got to be a way out of this. Lying on the ground won't save you.

Lynn sat upright, dried her eyes and gathered her wits. Eddie reached out to her in her time of need just as he'd done whenever she was down or distraught over the past three years. This she knew in her heart. Whether she imagined it or not, it was his whispered words of encouragement that sparked her drive to survive and pulled her back together. He was the reason she'd come on this trip to Scotland, to fulfill their ghost hunting dreams. She'd be damned if she'd let some two-bit kidnappers ruin her life. She struggled to her feet and straightened her clothes as best as possible.

Up ahead through the trees, she thought she saw a break in the woods. Maybe there was a meadow and quite possibly a house with people who could help her. Slowly she worked her way in that direction. The sound of male voices from somewhere behind her scared her. They were still coming after her and getting closer. She dug deep for any energy she had left and ran.

The moment she cleared the tree line, the ground went out from under her. She landed on her backside and began a torturous slide, bouncing off saplings, rocks and underbrush as her speed increased. Afraid she'd break her neck if she didn't stop, Lynn kept grabbing onto anything that would slow her descent. Several times the thin saplings she managed to grasp pulled out of the soft ground, slowing her some but not much. Digging in her heels helped, but the moist soil gave away until she hit a solid mass, a well-embedded rock that stopped her downward spiral.

Lynn came to a bone-jarring halt, leaning into the side of the mountain and praying the rock beneath her feet didn't pull out of place. Once the dirt around her stopped shifting, she evaluated her condition. It didn't seem as if anything was broken but it was hard to tell through the total body numbness. Breathing deep, she calmed her overwrought nerves and forced her trembling hands to search from side to side for anything that would help support her. Peering down the length of her body, she realized she'd slipped into a ravine and from her position, it looked bottomless. It wasn't an open meadow she'd seen, it was simply an optical illusion caused by the way the moonlight played upon the countryside.

Damn! She closed her eyes and it hit her. She was living the dream she had the first night of this ghost hunting adventure. Dead tired from hiking into the Grampian Mountains, cozy and warm in her sleeping bag, her imagination ran wild in her sleep and she had awoken all hot and bothered by the images fired to life in her brain. Thinking back, it replayed as if she were asleep and the dream reoccurred.

Don't look down, whispered through her head as she gasped for a full breath. She clung on for life in her dream just like she did now. Dirt slipped from the mountain, crumbling around her with any movement. Lynn kept her eyes closed tight, listening to the echo of a rock as it rolled into the deep crevice beneath her. It sounded so far away. She tried desperately not to think on the 'what if she fell' scenario and let the memory of the dream temporary control her thoughts.

She'd had help then whereas now there was none. As she'd reached upward, a hand had grabbed hers. If she remembered correctly, warmth had shot down her arm as a strong hand wrapped around hers. Lynn leaned back into the mountain, letting the vision of hope live in her mind in a valiant effort to relieve the tension of her reality.

One hand held hers, while the other reached and grabbed her backpack, tugging her into the mouth of a cave without so much as a grunt from the effort. Once certain of her safety, she'd lifted onto her knees, turned on a flashlight she couldn't remember from where she'd gotten it, after all it was a dream. Several seconds passed before she could actually focus. But when she did, she couldn't believe her eyes.

A gorgeous hunk of a man dressed in full-scale, ancient Scottish regalia stood staring down at her. The way the light played across the plains of his face gave him a dangerously rugged appeal. She couldn't decide if his eyes were green, blue or a mixture of both. A firm jaw held a set of perfect male lips. Waves of dark hair thick with amber highlights hung loose about his broad shoulders.

He was bare-chested except for the leather strap that crossed from left shoulder to right hip, which held the sheath for the sword she saw the handle of above his shoulder. The man's abdominal muscles were unlike any she'd ever seen. Ripped was the only word that came to mind, but even that didn't do him justice. A red and green plaid kilt slung low across his hips lay perfectly to his knees. Laced boots covered from his calves to his toes, but from the snug fit hid nothing about their musculature. His legs befit the rest of him, muscles on top of muscles.

For a split second, wonder if he's true to his kilt flashed inside her brain and she'd had to fold her hands together to resist the temptation to lift the plaid and take a peek. She swallowed hard, then forced her brain to work and made her mouth form a sentence.

"Thank you for saving me." She remembered speaking as she held her hand out to him.

He'd stared for what seemed like an eternity before he reached for it and helped her to her feet. She stumbled on weakened legs and fell against the solid wall of male flesh. His arm wrapped around her waist, holding her closer along the warmth of his form. His other hand's fingers gently touched her chin and guided her face upward. He seemed to study her before his eyes met hers.

The low sultry baritone of his words washed over her as he spoke. "Nay, milady. 'Tis ye who hath saved mi."

In the dream, his arm tightened around her waist as he lifted her without any effort. One of her hands held his thick, bulging biceps while her other hand landed on his waist for support. Never had anyone lifted her to kiss her. Nerves fired to life that she'd thought were dead. The closer his lips got, the more she wanted his kiss. This slow motion event was killing her. The heat of his breath caressed her lips just millimeters apart. The warmth of his body set her on fire with desire.

Lynn caught herself craning her neck trying to reach his lips. Opening her eyes reality set in. She truly clung to the side of a mountain for life. She tilted her chin upward, but saw nothing much in the darkness. Was there a handsome man waiting to rescue her? Nervously she laughed at the ludicrous thought. There wasn't anyone who knew where she was or would risk their life to save her.

This wasn't a dream. This was her reality.

No, it was up to her to save herself. She dug deep, brushing away the perfect hero-saves-the-day dream from her thoughts and struggled for survival.

Cautious in her movements, she inched along the rock, turning until she was face first against the dirt. Should she try to climb down or was it easier to go up? Lynn moved her hands palm flat along the ground searching for any point of support, anything she could grasp. The fingertips of her right hand brushed something rough and solid. Lynn rotated her head in that direction. It appeared to be a ledge. God, she hoped it would hold her.

With slow, careful movements, she worked her way toward the lip in the rock, hugging her body to the mountain for dear life. She used the plants for leverage, holding on but not pulling so their roots wouldn't break and jerk free from the ground. It seemed like an eternity had past before she reached the ledge. Every muscle ached and trembled but she refused to give in to the exhaustion that threatened to tear her from the mountainside. Nope. She didn't plan to fail. That ledge was her salvation, her place to rest and recuperate until sunrise.

She gripped the rocky edge. When it didn't break off and slide away, relief made her smile. Now all she had to do was pull herself up onto it. Toeing her boots into the dirt, she tried to push upward using her legs. The ground slid out from beneath her right foot and she slipped, leaving her dangling by her hands. Her shoulders screamed in pain and her arms shook, but she tightened her grip refusing to lose this battle.

Sheer will helped her find a sturdier foundation. Her left foot located a rock and her right she planted between the base of a bush and the dirt. Spread-eagled wasn't the best position but it kept her from falling any farther. The rock didn't feel as sturdy as the bush so she pushed up on her right leg and glided her left leg closer to the right until it found a secure spot stuck in a hole a wee bit higher than the bush. She struggled inch by inch until she was able to hoist herself onto the ledge.

Lynn rolled several feet away from the edge and onto her back. Breathing heavily, she lay still trying to evaluate her condition. Nothing felt broken. Her legs and arms trembled from the excessive exertion she'd placed on them. This definitely was more exercise than she'd ever gotten. Seconds turned into minutes as she simply lay there. The pounding of her heart resumed its normal pace and the tension in her body relaxed, giving her a chance to reflect on the events that led up to her precarious predicament.

Don't scream, Lynn. It's me, Travis.

The words rolled around inside her head and the sudden realization of what she'd done surfaced. Ohmygod! Travis! She'd attacked Travis, the one person who she thought was on her side. Or maybe he wasn't. She truly didn't know for sure anymore. Hysterical laughter rose from her chest.

What had she done?

She rolled onto her side and curled into a ball. The laughter slowed and exhaustion took over. Everything hurt. Both arms and legs trembled uncontrollably. A deep-seated ache bloomed from her core and spread outward until every ounce of her was thoroughly sated, causing her muscles to spasm at will. Her body gave her no other choice but to sleep. If she saw the morning light, it would be a miracle.

Invisible, strong, gentle hands caressed her, lulling her to sleep. Warmth surrounded her. The handsome man reappeared in her dreams, giving her comfort in her time of need. She snuggled closer into the imaginary heat of his body. He surrounded her, coddling her against him as if he alone would protect her from the elements. Sensing he stood watch, Lynn relaxed further into the depths of sleep, letting his sexy image renew her desire for life and for him.

He appeared to be tall with wide shoulders and thick arms that would hold her for as long as she needed to be held. Long, dark hair with rich shades of red was pulled away from his face, making her wish to untie what bound it and set it free to landscape his rugged features. Deep, blue-green eyes stared at her filled with wonder and wisdom beyond his years.

In this dream, he said nothing nor did she. He simply held her while she slept, keeping her close and away from the edge of the ledge. His imaginary heat warmed her and warded off the cool night air. A sensual dream not sexual guided her into a peaceful place where the hazards of her day no longer existed. It was just her and her hot, dream-walking man.
