Virtual Tour: THE ARGENT STAR by Emerson Fray @FrayEmerson @GoddessFish #Giveaway

THE ARGENT STAR
by Emerson Fray

BLURB:

What happens when your decisions affect an entire universe?

Ren Argent wanted to be an archeologist and spend her life exploring the lost cities of Earth.  But when a new planet is discovered and her father is appointed King, she has to leave behind everything she knows to rule over a place she’s only heard of in legends.

Not long after her arrival she discovers there are insurgents hiding in the darkened forests and the planet is on the brink of civil war.  It won’t be long until the Monarchy steps in to “neutralize” the threat.

Will she be able to stop the hostile takeover?  Or will her actions ignite a rebellion across the universe?

EXCERPT:

“Why did you bring me here?” she asked.  It was against Maks’s rules, and though Ren had only known her a short time, Ren hadn’t thought Sheridan would break the rules so easily.  Yet she still brought Ren to one of the places Maks had forbidden, and didn’t even know about.

“When one is battling a river it is best to travel with the current,” Sheridan replied, a small smirk appearing.  She knelt beside Ren and dipped her fingers into the water, swirling them around to create a line of green light.  “This place is magic; I thought you could use some magic.”

“Magic isn’t real,” Ren said, although she enjoyed the idea of it.  She wasn’t one to shy away from the entertaining tricks, from smoke and mirrors, but she knew it was just that.  Tricks.  “There’s probably some kind of algae here to create the glow, and maybe some kind of advan—”

“Not everything needs to be explained,” Sheridan said.  “Sometimes it just is.”

That made Ren quiet and she kept her opinion to herself.  If the people of Novae believed in certain magics then that was fine.  She didn’t want them to force their beliefs on her, so why should she force hers on them?

“Thanks,” she mumbled, “for bringing me here.  You know, you’re actually really sweet.”

Sheridan blanched, her hand stopping all motion and remaining in the water.  “What?”

“You try to hide it,” Ren said, her lips turning upwards, “and you always have those things on your back.”

Sheridan tilted her head to glance at the weapons she was never without.  “They’re kamas,” she said before looking back at Ren.

“But I can see it.  You act like you couldn’t care less about the world and what people think but you like Novae.”  Ren was careful with her words.  “You don’t like the Monarchy.”

Sheridan took a deep breath.  “I don’t.  And neither do you.”

Blog Tour: Duplication (Duplication Trilogy # 1) By Leigh Clary Abdou @AuthorLCA @GHBTours #Giveaway

Duplication
Duplication Trilogy # 1
By- Leigh Clary Abdou
Genre- Sci Fi

Our tomorrows are today, our yesterdays a secret memory.

Under the new world dictatorship of Pangaea, religion dominates, putting those marked as Christian at a disadvantage. Forced to wear crosses on their clothing and adhere to strict governmental rules, Katrine Matthews and Ramsey Greene find themselves oppressed, living under a government duplicating events from the darkest hours of history.
Together, with people of all faiths, Ramsey decides to fight, while Katrine learns to confront her two greatest fears: falling in love and death, which push her to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Excerpt:

KATRINE CLEANED HER APARTMENT and what felt like seconds later, Ramsey knocked. The Saturday grocery store ordeal had arrived. She dreamed someday of ordering groceries via the drone delivery method, but costing extra, Katrine and Ramsey opted for pick-up.

Grabbing David, she pinned on their crosses. Placing him on her hip, she looked in the mirror, taking a last fleeting glimpse at her somewhat tamed hair. Blue eyes, green eyes, and two blonde heads returned their stare.

Black bags hung heavily under her eyes, accompanied with a dull, blue hue. The past two years had been difficult. Was she even the same girl? She thought so…maybe. Or maybe she didn’t know her identity anymore.

She looked at their shirts and took in the crosses pinned right above their hearts. In Pangaea, Christians were branded like Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter. She opened the door to find Ramsey with his cross pinned as well. Public outings without the mark weren’t permitted.

“Okay, let’s go. We want to be one of the first ones there.” Katrine motioned and Ramsey nodded, holding open the door. Christians weren’t allowed in the grocery store until after two PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Author Interview-

What inspired you to write Duplication?

I had just finished “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana De Rosnay and tried to put myself in the shoes of a Jew living during the Holocaust. From there, the thought crossed my mind “what if history repeated itself?” My mind then moved to my own religion (Christianity), wondering what it would be like to experience something like this from a different perspective. I made a futuristic society and the rest of the book just tumbled out.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

About the third grade. My first book was four chapters long and about a blind girl who was lost on the ocean in a boogie board. It does have a happy ending! I have been writing my entire life due to a huge imagination. Taking that and creating worlds and characters has been a part of me for as long as I can remember.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

I remember learning to read in the first grade and how excited I was. I’ve read like every Nancy Drew book ever written, so when I think of my earliest books, I think of these.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I read anything and everything. My favorites are: romance, science fiction, contemporary fiction, fantasy, romantic suspense.

What is your favorite book?

Gone with the Wind

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Anything by Colleen Hoover. She hasn’t written a book yet that I haven’t LOVED.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go
and why?

I would want to go to Europe during WW11 to observe and study the Holocaust, as well as, to the south during the Civil War, and to Scotland during the 1700’s - inspired by the Outlander books (Diana Gabaldon). I would like to be an invisible bystander to watch and study these pivotal moments in history.

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Writing is hard work and writing a novel takes a lot dedication. However, anything you love doing isn’t really work. The storylines and plots come natural - sitting down and making them into a readable novel isn’t easy, but worth it in the end.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

No pets. I have a husband and two children...it takes everything I have to remember to feed them lol!

What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

M&M’s and sweet tea. They make any bad day better and any headache instantly disappear.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Write, write, and write! Read, read, and read!

When I write a book, I do about two or three re-writes per book...writing is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.

I also read EVERYTHING. I heard an author say that reading is research, and that’s so true! I used to follow books paragraph by paragraph to see how they were developing characters and how they were using punctuality. I learned everything from reading and then implementing what I had read into my own writing.

Summary from Goodreads:
Sometimes the only thing standing between fear and hope is yourself.

Almost a year ago, nineteen-year-old Cassie Harlen had a lot to deal with. A stack of college acceptance letters waiting for answers, a proposal from the boy next door, and a mother whose most recent bipolar episode left Cassie hurt and confused. Tired of cleaning up the messes caused by her mother's disorder, of resenting her mother for not being there, and scared of being trapped by an inevitable future-which included marrying Graham Tucker-Cassie did the only thing she could think of to keep from ending up like her mother: she left.

Graham never knew why Cassie walked away. He woke up one morning and she was gone-along with the life that he'd created around her. After eleven months, Graham has a new plan for his future. One that doesn't involve Cassie Harlen.

When Cassie's mom nearly burns down her house, Cassie's forced to return home. Back to a mother she's tried to ignore and the guy she's been unable to forget. Graham doesn't know how he's going to spend the whole summer living next door to the person who broke his heart without letting those old feelings push through to the surface.

Neither does Cassie.

Excerpt:

Graham

I knew Cass was coming. Hell, I was the one who called her, but until she was standing there refusing to make eye contact—it was hard to believe it was true. We’d barely said two words to each other since we left her house. I didn’t really know what to say to her. Well, I knew what to say to her, but I also knew I couldn’t. It wasn’t the time, and I wasn’t an ass. She made herself pretty clear last time I saw her. God, I wished she’d didn’t look so damn good. If she looked bad all this would be easier.

And maybe I wouldn’t want to kiss her so much.

God, I wanted to kiss her.

I had to shake that off. I had a girlfriend, and Cassie was here, but it didn’t change anything. I opened the door to the guest room, and turned the light on for her. In the light of the room, she was radiant. She’d always been beautiful, but today, there was something else, a sadness that rarely defined her, but now it seemed so engrained.

I knew right then what I really wanted for her: I hoped that when she left she found the thing that made her happy. That the sadness in her eyes was only the situation, and not what she had become. I cared too much about her to see her swallowed in sadness.

“This looks nice,” Cassie said. “Very different.”

When I met her gaze, I recognized a glimmer of the girl I used to love. What did she see in this room? The brown and blue paint that used to cover it? The pictures of her and me that used to plaster the walls? The Clash poster that hung on the closet door? The basketball trophies? The first time we fumbled our way through sex when we were sixteen on that very bed? We’d improved a lot since that first time. The last time I made her yell my name over and over, and it always felt awesome to be the one to make her come. I had everything I could ever want, and all of it was her, especially in that last moment we had together. I felt like a king as she called my name as I moved inside her, I caught a glint of my diamond on her finger. I’d thought in that moment that she’d be mine forever in every way possible. That’d we have this for the rest of our lives. The memory was as vivid as if it had been yesterday, even though it’d been months.

I cleared my throat. Stop thinking about that. “A lot has changed.”

About the Author
Danielle Ellison spent most of her childhood reading instead of learning math. It's probably the reason she can't divide without a calculator and has spent her life seeking the next adventure. It's also probably the reason she's had so many different zip codes and jobs.

When she's not writing, Danielle is probably  eating cookies, fighting her nomadic urges, watching too much TV, or dreaming of the day when she can be British. She has settled in Northern Virginia, for now, but you can always find her on twitter @DanielleEWrites.

Excerpt:

“What do you want, Gwen?” he whispered.

I stared at his chest, breathing hard, heart beating a frantic rhythm. “I want to touch you. And I don’t want you to stop me.”

He hesitated, but when I ran my fingers over the criss-cross pattern of raised white scars that slashed across his ribs, he didn’t stop me.

“Are these from when you were alive?”He tensed, but allowed me to keep exploring him.

“Yes.”

I looked up. “Why did you keep them?”

His eyes searched mine. A muscle in his jaw flexed. “So I would never forget how I got them, why I’m here...what I lost.”

“They’re beautiful,” I whispered.

He closed his eyes and exhaled harshly. He was struggling, fighting some internal battle to give me this, to accept joy in return.

I resisted the sudden, overwhelming urge to close the space between us, to press my lips to his. Something so simple, and yet it felt bigger than the two of us put together. That should have scared me. If I gave in to such urges, I could be cast out, stripped of everything that made me my father’s daughter. But it didn’t scare me. It exhilarated me. In the back of my mind I could hear Sky’s warning.

Aren’t you tempted? Gwen, what if you fall?

I was. I wanted it with every fiber of this body. Every part of me felt jittery with want and anticipation. The sweet, addictive desire rolling off him told me he wanted it, too. Easton reached up and touched my chin, his fingers like a magnet drawing me in.

“I’m about to kiss you, Red,” he said, voice rough. “You should probably stop me.”

About the Author
Tara Fuller writes novels. Some about grim reapers. Some about witches. All of course are delightfully full of teen angst and kissing. Tara grew up in a one stop light town in Oklahoma where once upon a time she stayed up with a flash light reading RL Stine novels and only dreamed of becoming a writer. She has a slight obsession with music and a shameless addiction for zombie fiction, Mystery Science Theater, and black and white mochas. Tara no longer lives in a one stop light town. Now she lives with her family in a slightly larger town in North  Carolina where they have at least three stoplights.

Excerpt:

She rounds a corner. Instead of going into a classroom, she walks out the double doors leading to the quad, maybe heading for the library or the gym. I jog to catch up, reaching out to touch her shoulder. “Hey—”

The next thing I know, the sky is above me and I’m hitting the ground as my legs are knocked out from under me. I see stars. In broad daylight. Concussion: minor brain injury that may occur when one’s head strikes an object. Ow.

The girl’s face comes into view as I’m blinking the white from my vision. “You following me, jackass?” she snarls. “I know who you are. You’ve got some fucking nerve.”

I push myself up to sit, scooting back on the concrete to avoid getting struck again in the event she lashes out. “N-no—I mean, y-yes. I j-just wanted—”

“Wanted to what? I’ve got nothing to say to you.”

“I…I saw you at Callie’s l-locker…”

“If I had my way, they would have thrown your sorry ass in jail already. You realize they’re getting a restraining order against you.”

“I—”

“Better not let me see you in the parking lot, ’cause you’d better believe I’ll mow you down.”

I didn’t touch her!

The heat of my voice startles me. I’m not a yeller. I keep quiet, under the radar. But those words felt like they were going to burst out of my ribs if I didn’t say them. Callie’s friend is watching me with a smoldering glare.

“Right. She just made it up, then.”

“N-no. I didn’t say…say that.” Once I’m sure she isn’t going to use some weird karate move to put me on the ground again, I pick myself up. “I’m just saying it w-wasn’t m-me.”

She squints, looking me over. Studying me. I’d feel less exposed lying naked on a silver tray in biology being sliced open in the name of science. “Why were you following me?”

Why was I? What, exactly, did I want to ask? What did I want to say? I rub the back of my neck, ducking my head. “I wanted to s-see if you could deliver a m-message.”

“Uh-huh. What kind of message?”

“T-tell her…I d-didn’t do it. I swear on my life. And…” The guilt. It comes out of nowhere and slides its slivers into my lungs, making my chest tight. “Tell her I’m sorry.”

She folds her arms, gaze steely. “Sorry for what?”

“For not keeping her safe.” That’s what it comes down to. No, I didn’t rape Callie Wheeler, but I feel like it was my fault it happened. The number of things I could have—should have—done to prevent it seems staggering. The weight of my guilt makes it hard to breathe.
