Excerpts:

Prelude

The almighty Father stormed into the room as a mighty rushing wind. As His very presence passed by, each servant stood at attention as they lined His pathway. Gabriel followed Him very closely and spoke: "Lord, I don't understand."

The Father stopped midway and turned to Gabriel and gave a declaration. "The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this. It is warfare, Gabriel. Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers."

The Father continued toward His seat. He sat in heaven exasperated. He turned and looked at His Son, who was looking down at Earth. "Son, what seems to have your attention?"
"Father, come look at this," the Son said as He stood gazing down toward Earth at Arthur and Valencia Todd and their daughter, Lindsy Todd.

The Father walked over, joined His Son, and together they looked down at the Todd family.

Excerpt:

LENI - The overhead lights fell dark for the last time as I opened the dressing room door. The back exit stood open at the end of the hall, allowing in enough light from the streetlamp outside to show my way. I inhaled slowly, cherishing the musty smell of an old theater mixed with the odor of dancers' sweat and the fragrance of white roses. I silently said my goodbyes as my feet carried me outside.
"Thank you, Uncle Theo," I whispered as I left the theater for the last time. Only because of him did I even have this opportunity. I couldn't wait to tell him all about it.
A large, muscular body flew at me, swept me into his arms and twirled me around as though we were still on stage. Laughter bubbled out of my chest.
"You ready to celebrate, cara mia?" Alberto asked as he set me down.
"Celebrate that you're finally getting rid of me?" I teased.
He clapped his hand over his heart, and his face fell into an exaggerated expression of pain. "Oh, Leni, you do not know how I will miss you and your mane."
He swatted playfully at the bottom of my curls. He had no idea how I would miss the way he said my name, drawing out both syllables, "laaaay-kneee," like only an Italian could do.
"But you won't miss my heels on your toes or my arm in your face?" I said in mock disbelief.
He took my hand and danced me down the cobbled street toward the plaza at the center of town. "You are a stunning dancer, cara mia. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." He spun me under his arm, my duffle bag banging me in the butt the whole time. "Of course, you have become much better since becoming my partner. But everyone does."
He winked at me before dropping me into a dip. My bag slid off my shoulder and a hand darted beneath me to catch it. Alberto swung me up and around so that I came face-to-face with the most unbelievably stunning vision I'd seen my whole time in Italy. Which was saying a lot. His eyes-blue, I thought, though the light from the corner post wasn't enough to be sure-enraptured me. He held my bag out with a small smile that hinted at dimples.
"Grazie," I said breathlessly as I wrapped my hand around the strap of my bag. He gave me a nod almost deep enough to be a bow, his shaggy blond hair falling in his face. Then, without a word, he turned and walked away. My mouth fell open. "How rude."
"Must be American," Alberto said. I punched him in the arm.
"Who goes out of their way to catch a falling object and then can't even say 'you're welcome'?" I asked absent-mindedly as I stared after the retreating body that rivaled Alberto's. No, scratch that. It totally beat out Alberto's even on his best day.
"What an ass," Alberto muttered.
"Rude, yes, but I don't know if I'd go that far."
"No, I mean what an ass that man has." He let out a low whistle.
I laughed and admired the view as well. "I can agree with that."
"He's going to Alonzo's. Lucky us."
~ ~ ~
JERIC - I flipped to the picture I'd drawn a couple of weeks ago during my search in Italy. I'd woken from a dream, one I'd been having for years, and as I had previously, I'd felt the need to sketch the girl who had me waking with a painful boner. Now that I'd met her in real life, I couldn't deny the girl in my sketches was Leni-curly hair, exotic green eyes, full lips and breasts, her skin … as if the absolute best features of both African and European blood had been blended together and given to her. The Leni I'd just met would probably never wear the leather bra, miniskirt, and knee-high boots I'd drawn her in, but damn if she wouldn't look hot in them. The vision came to me clearly. Too clearly. I had to place the book over my lap to hide the full-blown wood pressing against my jeans.
I needed a distraction. I needed to get her out of my head. I bought several little airline bottles of rum and dumped them in my Coke, but they weren't enough to blur the image of Leni's face in my mind. When the smoking hot flight attendant ran her finger over my arm then dropped a napkin with a message on my tray ("Meet me upstairs?"), I couldn't resist. I snuck up the spiral staircase to the empty upper level and found her in the bathroom wearing nothing but heels and thigh-high stockings, tendrils of bottle-bleached hair barely hiding her fake tits. Flight attendants like this had made me a lifetime member of the mile-high club-they wanted nothing more than something to make the transatlantic flight more interesting. My perfect kind of girl.
Unfortunately, my eyes only saw Leni's body under my hands.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Revelation

A fallen angel with a mission and a medical examiner who's lost her faith are fighting for their souls in a glittering, near-future Manhattan...

Blind faith is for fools. That's what Dr. Morgan Sterling believes. And she's going to prove it by curing the zombie plague ravaging her city's slums. She's certain it's not a sign of the End of Days, but a nasty disease-until an angel appears in her morgue in a flash of glory.

Luniel is not just a fallen angel. He's a powerful warrior sworn to fight evil in hopes of a chance at redemption. He's after the demon princes who are stealing the seven vials of holy wrath which, when perverted, will unleash eternal hell on earth.

To stop the plague, Luniel needs Morgan's help, and her faith. But Morgan believes science is their salvation. If the zombie plague is a demonic curse-and if Luniel is true-he'll have to prove it. Even if he loses his heart to true love or his soul to Hell...

EXCERPT

Revelation

Today, of all days. It was Thursday. The world couldn't end on a Thursday.

Luniel, the fallen angel, crouched on the shore of Liberty Island in a hot August sunset with blood lapping at his feet. It licked the rocks beneath his boots, clotting. All the way across the bay, to the firelit Brooklyn shore and the gleaming blue arcs of the Narrows Bridge, what used to be water gleamed sick and scarlet.

The angel sniffed the air, and tasted copper. A dead fish bobbed belly-up, pale white flesh and fins. He poked the warm liquid with his finger, and licked. Yeah. Definitely blood. And human. There were seaweeds and algae that sported the same fleshy color. But Luniel had tasted enough blood in his three thousand years to know this wasn't algae.

He straightened. No breeze flicked his long black hair back. In his human guise, he had no wings. He scanned the distant shore with sharp blue eyes, further than any human could see, and his nose twitched. Hunting. For something. Anything. A trick. A college prank. A fish slaughterhouse. Overflow from some industrial accident, one of the factories along the built-up Jersey waterfront spilling toxic chemicals.

Not a sign of the Apocalypse. Not God's wrath.

Across the bloody bay, Babylon's glittering towers razored the red sky, the decadent sprawl of skyscrapers and spires they once called Manhattan. The sunset flashed on steel and mirrored windows, glaring in competition with neon lights and rainbow columns of virtual advertising. Even from here, Lune's preternatural ears detected buzzing electrics, the faint digital beep of comms towers, snatches of conversations, and in his magical angelsight, the city glowed, green with the living, pulsing energy of human souls.

Helicopters lasered their searchlights through smoke and heat haze, sweeping over burned-out housing projects and shining condominiums. Traffic noise hummed, the groaning subway, horns and engines and wailing sirens, police and fire and the ever-more-urgent ambulances. At the height of summer, plague had stolen into the Empire State like a homicidal houseguest, more frightening than California dengue and deadlier than arctic flu, and people were afraid.

But terror happened in Babylon, the world's richest, rottenest city of sin. You only had to look at the shining glass spire piercing the sky, one hundred and ten stories high, built back in wiser days where a pair of ill-fated twin towers once stood. The world had turned ever more rapidly to shit since then, but Luniel still remembered that day well. That day, angels dived for earth, fiery wings flashing, but it was too late. Even the fallen, like Lune, were powerless. The people screamed and died and thought the world was ending.

Horrific? Yeah. But the monkeys had no idea what they were in for.

What the end of the world would really be like.

Luniel shivered. This wasn't over yet. It couldn't be.

He dug into his jeans pocket for his phone, and speed-dialed. Trendy SIM implants in your ears were all very well for humans, but fast-healing angelflesh rejected biotech. The irony was pleasing and bitter. "Come on, Ithiel," he muttered. "Answer your rotted phone."

Ithiel was still on heaven's A-list, but he and Lune stayed in contact. If anything was going down, Ith would know. But voicemail kicked in, his brother's laid-back laughter: I'm busy. Leave a message. If I give a shit, I'll call back.

Luniel swore-even after centuries, defiance felt good-and waited for the beep. "Party never stops upstairs, huh. Call me, asshole," he said, and ended the call.

A week. Ithiel hadn't answered for a week. And now this.

It could be stupid luck. Coincidence. Random events colliding like flotsam.

But after two millennia spent dealing out heaven's wrath, and going on another one walking the earth and seeing it all from the other side, Luniel was wearily certain that what goes around, comes around to kick you in the balls.

Coincidence was bullshit. Nothing was random. Everything happened for a reason, and fate was one dastardly, despicable motherfucker you just couldn't avoid.

But inexorably-inexplicably-the blood lapping at his feet made him angry.

Defiantly, recklessly, sinfully angry.

INTERVIEW

Erica Hayes

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write Revelation?

Erica Hayes: I love dark, gritty paranormal romance, and I adore the idea of fallen angels. What's a guy to do when he no longer has a purpose? Save the world, naturally-from demons trying to hijack the Apocalypse and bring on the end of the world. I got a lot of inspiration from real-life doomsday prophecies. Plagues, armies of evil, oceans of blood and the sky raining fire. Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up-but what if a prophecy like that came true?

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Erica Hayes: I've always written. It's in my blood. But you can do that without wanting to be published, or wanting a fabulous, stressful, maddening career as an author. It took me many years and a few uninspiring 'real jobs' to realize I can't be happy unless I'm doing something creative. I'm only moderately talented as a musician and I suck at visual arts, so here I am!

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Erica Hayes: I remember sitting with my mum's lap as a little girl, reading a picture book called 'Animal Train'. I don't remember the plot, but it definitely involved a tunnel and giraffes poking their heads out of holes in the train's roof. I don't know how old I was, but Mum always says I was born reading.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Erica Hayes: Fantasy, romance, paranormal, horror, science fiction. All the juicy genre stuff. Occasionally I find a 'literary' book I enjoy, but mostly it's genre all the way. I like books that have a story.

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Erica Hayes: Them's fighting words! I have to divide it by genre, I'm afraid. I love THE SHADOW OF THE TORTURER by Gene Wolfe and WOLF HALL by Hilary Mantel and EXQUISITE CORPSE by Poppy Z. Brite and BEST SERVED COLD by Joe Abercrombie and THE GUNSLINGER by Stephen King - none of them can satisfactorily be compared to any of the others.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Erica Hayes: You know, I'm not sure we do :) but one author who has never left me disappointed is Stephen King. I haven't read all his books, but his characterization is second to none. Every person in his stories is so real.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Erica Hayes: Complicated question. Small print, please! Do I get to come back? The Italian Renaissance, then. If I have to stay back there… well, twenty years ago would be nice. I'd track my younger self down and beat some sense into me…

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Erica Hayes: Difficult but endlessly rewarding. Some times it's desperately frustrating. I imagine it as similar to being a painter-your skill sometimes doesn't measure up to the image you've got in your head.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Erica Hayes: I am owned by an immense orange cat named Dr. Watson. He enjoys food, sleep, food, cuddles and food, preferably in that order. We also have a cute little fluffy dog named Arnie (after the Governator) but we had to leave him in Australia with doting relatives when we moved to the UK. No doubt he will be spoilt rotten when we get home. No, Arnie, you can't sleep on the bed…

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Erica Hayes: I love chocolate! I miss Australian chocolate. Even the brand-name bars taste different in the UK. I'm told it's because Aussie chocolate has added ingredients so it won't melt in the heat. True story… My favorite all-time cuisine would have to be Italian. Closely followed by Greek. My nana is a Greek lady and her cooking is scrumptious!

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Erica Hayes: Go for it! Opportunities are multiplying like they never have before. But use caution. Learn your craft and your readership. Be prepared to spend money and time on promotion, whether you go indie or traditional. And don't necessarily jump at the first opportunity that comes your way. All publishers (and distributors) are not equal. You have choices, so be informed.

MY REVIEW

Revelation

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Dr. Morgan Sterling is a medical examiner who doesn't believe in God, angels the devil or any kind of religion for that matter. She only believes in what she can see. When people start turning into zombies and the world is coming to an end as she and the people of Babylon know it all Morgan wants to do is find a cure for the virus. She wants to save all these people and give them their lives back.

She is pretty shaken up when an angel shows up in her morgue. She can't believe what she is seeing. Her world is turned upside down when she starts seeing angels and demons. Even though she sees them she still doesn't believe her own eyes. And she definitely doesn't trust this angel or God. She thinks they are all lairs just like the preachers on tv.

The angel she sees in her morgue is Luniel. He is one gorgeous dude or angel that is. Morgan is attracted to him right from the beginning as he is to her. Neither one understands their feelings for one another. How can they care and feel the need to be with each other so strongly when they have just met?

Luniel wants to take Morgan and make her his. He doesn't understand because he has not felt this way about a human or angel in like a thousand years or more. Lune is a tainted angel who fights evil in the world trying to make amends for his sins so he can earn his place in heaven again. That is all Lune wants is to do what is required of him so that he can get back into God's good graces and return to heaven. But his love for Morgan changes all that for him. If getting back into heaven means that he can't be with Morgan then he is willing to give all that up for her.

I learned to care about all of Lune's friends like Jadzia, Trill, Dash and all the other tainted angels. They are all very lovable characters. You get inside all of their heads at some point or other in the story. You get to know each character like who they were and you get to know a little bit about what kind of heart they each have. I really enjoyed reading about zombies and the world ending when all the vials has been released. I love that the world is ending with the release of the vials and with zombies all mixed in together. I can't wait to read the next book in the series Redemption. If the first vial is zombies then what will the next vials hold?

 Conflicting Hearts

Synopsis:

Rachel Hayward hoped to have a quiet thirtieth birthday alone. Instead, fate had different plans.
Caught in traffic and late for work, she can do nothing except wait for the freeway gridlock to ease. A three-car pileup has caused the snarl. Just as cars begin to move at a faster clip, Rachel takes her eyes off the road to gawk at the accident and rear-ends the car in front of her.
Sick over having ruined her day, she lowers her head onto the steering wheel and waits for the driver to begin a tirade over her stupidity. Instead, a kind man taps on her window showing genuine concern about her welfare. The brief colliding encounter suddenly starts a relationship between two strangers that takes off under odd circumstances.
When the couple becomes intimate, their relationship turns into a conflicting set of desires and needs. Rachel is bound by a shameful, dark childhood. After she falls in love with the handsome Ian Richards, she is faced with the decision to leave him or finally confront her demons to obtain the one thing in life she's always needed--healing from the sexual abuse she endured as a little girl.

EXCERPT

Ian slowly turns me around so that I'm facing him. We're nose to nose. Our bodies are touching front to front. This is not good, or maybe it is good. He doesn't say a thing, except to look at me with a smoldering gaze. A second later, he lazily moves his eyes toward my lips.

I'm frozen. I look at him with half anticipation and half panic. He's going to kiss me; I know it. His intentions are clearly expressed in his blue eyes, which have turned a shade darker. I'm losing it. Hurriedly, I remind him of his words to fend off the advance.
"Uh, I thought you wanted to be just friends?"

A look of admiration sweeps across his face. He gently brings his hand up to my forehead and brushes a few strands of hair out of my eyes. Ian is silent, but it's obvious he is thinking this through. It's driving me crazy being close to his body.
"You want more?" I whisper, trying to get him to say something.
"Do you?"

He answers with a question. It's annoying. "I asked you first," I reply, not cracking a smile or giving away my heart pounding in my chest. I can't look at him any longer. I close my eyes, and silently ask God, who I've ignored for years, to help me.

Then I feel the warmth of his breath approach. He circles my lips with his and gives me a long, tender kiss. Sweet Jesus. He tastes so delicious! I hope the breath mint I popped in my mouth a half hour ago is still working. Eventually, he pulls away, and I open my eyes.

"Does that answer your question?"

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Angel Bait

Saved by the angel sent to kill them, four half-angel boys are trained and employed as Heaven's assassins. Jarrid and his nephilim brothers are raised as members of The Eternal Order, and must enforce Heaven's laws by hunting down those who defy the Directorate.

His only shot at freedom is Ascension, but his employers won't permit the ancient ritual. Then Jarrid learns a Renegade angel is in Detroit. Such a high-level takedown is the answer to his prayers-all the leverage he needs to Ascend.

For freedom, Jarrid is willing to do anything to lure his elusive enemy out of hiding.

Even use an innocent woman as bait.

News reporter Ionie Gifford has no clue an angel outlaw wants her dead. She agrees to help Jarrid, the enigmatic nephilim with penetrating silver eyes and a worship-worthy body, but only because he accepts her terms. He's her all-access pass into the city's supernatural underworld where she hopes to locate her mother's killer.

Blindsided by Ionie's beauty and tenacity, Jarrid soon finds the eternity-old glacier around his heart thawing. With duty and desire at war within him, he's forced to make a choice-either save Ionie from the trap he snared and stay chained to Heaven, or allow her to become collateral damage.

She leaned back and studied him, taking in the casual way his thigh rested against a chair. Her throat closed, smothering her clever retort. Jarrid angled his chiseled face to study items on her desk, and Ionie caught the awed stares of her passing colleagues.

One woman tripped over her own feet.

Another face-planted into a wall.

Jesus Christ.

The half-angel was so handsome it hurt. Jarrid didn't seem to notice the attention directed at him. Or maybe he didn't care.

"You're upset I won't allow photos, but you still plan to work with me," he said, his fingers sliding over a shriveled dictionary. "I want to know why."

Blunt and to the point.

"I'm not upset." Ionie snorted, a sound she hoped made her seem indifferent. "You've answered my prayers. I'm used to working obits, or chasing the occasional fire truck."

He flicked his head at the desk adjoining hers. "You work with someone?"

"I don't do partners."

"Yet you will do me." The simple statement, spoken in his sexy rumble, liquefied the marrow in Ionie's bones.

"Uh," she said. "My work takes on a whole new meaning when you say it."

He leaned in, a smooth slide of firm muscle and taut flesh. She caught a whiff of his scent; she hadn't noticed it before. Something nameless, celestial like the man - the being - it belonged to. She inhaled deep, lulled by his nearness. Gorgeous. No other word fit him better.

"Is there a problem?" Jarrid's lips curved down. His tone held an edge she couldn't place.

"Problem?" Mario's smooth voice yanked Ionie from her trance. She shook her head and leaned away from the nephilim. "You okay, kid?"

What the hell am I doing?

Ionie strained to smile at Jarrid. The half-angel's face presented a solid mask, obscuring any hint of his reaction.

"I'm fine," she said. "Mario, this is Jarrid. He's with the Eternal Order ... and my new story. Jarrid, this is Mario Hernandez. He trained me on the graveyard shift."

"Story?" The men exchanged handshakes. She could see Mario's mind working behind his casual expression.

"On Patrick's say so." She suppressed some of her excitement. "I'm doing a feature on angel society.

"Angels don't seek attention. Why the switch?"

"Times change," Jarrid said in a tight, controlled voice.

The older reporter narrowed his eyes at the flat tone. She didn't blame him. "Doesn't explain why the boys above have sent a nephilim. Aren't you guys a bit high level for PR?"

The muscles in Jarrid's arms ticked. "My work is classified."

"I bet," Mario said.

What the hell?

Ionie stared at her friend, then Jarrid. The corded line of his neck bulged with thick throbbing veins. Her source appeared ready to pounce on the curious old coot. She slid off her chair. "We should get going."

Neither man moved. Ionie reached out and touched Jarrid's bicep. His arm shifted beneath her hand like she'd branded him. She removed her fingers before he decided to break them off.

No touching. Got it.

Without a word, he marched from the office. With the weird question and answer session over, she grabbed her bag and hauled ass to catch up.

"What happened back there?" She jogged to keep pace with him, his long strides churning yards of polished marble floor in his wake. "Why are you acting like this?"

Jarrid turned on her with a scowl. "Your buddy is inquisitive."

"Newsflash. He's a reporter, like me. Nosey is what we do." That didn't help. Not the way Jarrid stared at her as if she'd sprouted horns. "You're a big deal in Heaven, huh? If it's a secret, you shouldn't be hanging around journalists. We suck up secrets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

"We keep to ourselves." A tremor of annoyance filtered through the words.

"Not anymore." The two of them standing in a newspaper lobby made the whole conversation seem ridiculous. Ionie stepped closer to Jarrid and angled her head to see his eyes. "Not many people can say they've seen, or met, an angel. Your kind might want to keep on the down low, but when you step out, you're going to draw attention."

His steady glare told her he didn't believe a word. Or maybe he didn't like what he heard. Or maybe he just liked glaring at her like she'd eventually shut the hell up.

Jerk. Angels weren't the only ones who preferred seclusion. Try tracking down the Fae. Those bastards were near impossible to get out in the open. She'd tried.

"Angels and nephilim are private. I get the cloak and dagger bull, but you came to me. This covert thing? You want people to answer your questions?"

He gave a microscopic bob of his head.

"First lesson? People are naturally curious, especially humans." Ionie moistened her bottom lip. She hated the nervous response, but Jarrid held a remote control on her anxiety. "They may have questions for you, too. We're drawn to the unknown like butter to toast, at least according to my grandma. I'll help you. You'll help me. Everybody gets what they need."

Silver eyes dipped to her lips.

The gap between them sizzled like someone had flipped on a low-voltage current. Every hair on her skin saluted. She stared into his eyes and her heartbeat doubled. By now she should be nervous, but the hint of danger she sensed in him only brought an embarrassing rush of arousal.

Her face must have flushed apple red because Jarrid's mouth parted. His now wide gaze traced over her features, lingering on her cheeks and lips. She should kiss him. Kiss him right in the middle of her workplace. Kiss him in front of Stan the desk clerk who took classified ads. One kiss on the nephilim's too-full lips. One hard press ....

She licked her lip again. His gaze tracked her tongue. Before she could lean into his body and act on the impulse, he jerked back and stepped out of reach.

"What are you doing?" His voice was low, dangerous.

What was she doing? She'd almost pounced on a guy at work! She didn't jump her sources. Another wave of heat seared her face and she stared at her feet. "So ... we still have a deal?"

Jarrid didn't reply. She chanced a peek at him. He looked pissed. His back was ramrod straight and his eyes glowed. Maybe she'd offended his angel sensibilities with her odd human reactions.

Wasn't he half-Human? Did he feel an attraction to her?

A miserable minute ticked by.

"We still have a deal," he said. "First, you meet my brothers."

Set in a Detroit where supernatural creatures are commonplace and angels are assassins, ANGEL BAIT takes the reader on a blood-pumping ride of danger, vengeance, and forbidden romance. Led by a tormented hero and fierce heroine, filled with courage and passion, secrets and betrayal, ANGEL BAIT refuses to let go until the final page. -- T.J. Loveless, author (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/487528923)

"Angel Bait is now one of my favorite books of all time. I was hooked from page 1, and the book only got better from there. The pacing was flawless; the characters were perfect; the world-building rivaled today's bestsellers. I will be thinking about this book for a long, long time, but not as long as I'll be anxiously awaiting the next book. Fingers crossed that this is the start of a series, because I'm not ready to forget about the hunky nephilim introduced in this book."

-- Male reviewer on Goodreads

"The book went by fast, in the end, but like any good book or tv show, the better ones fly by and you look forward to the next installment."

MY REVIEW

Angel Bait

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Jarrid and his brothers are nephilim, half-human and half-angel who work for Heaven as assassins. Jarrid and his brothers are also members of The Eternal Order. Their job is to hunt down the criminals who break Heaven's laws and go against the Directorate. Being half-human Jarrid is not allowed in heaven. He wants more than anything and will do whatever it takes to be allowed to enter Heaven.

Jarrid finds out that there is a renegade angel in town and if he can capture him or bring him down then he thinks or hopes that bringing him down will get him into heaven. Jarrid learns that the renegade angel is after a woman, a news reporter, Ionie Gifford. Ionie has no idea that the angel wants her or why. Jarrid has no clue why the angel wants her either but he dosent' care. All Jarrid is worried about is getting hisself a spot in heaven.

Jarrid goes to Ionie to make a deal with her to get her to help him. He doesn't tell her that the angel wants her. She agrees to help him find this angel in return for helping him she will get to do an exclusive story on angels.

Jarrid is one tall/big man/angel and Ionie thinks he is one goregous dude. When Jarrid meet Ionie he is not sure of what he is feeling for Ionie. He has never been in a relationship before. Heaven doesn't allow half-angels to have a relationship. But Jarrid can't help how he feels about Ionie and so therefore can't stop his love for her.

Ionie is a very independent and brave woman. She has a mouth on her and is not afraid to use it. She is comical and will have you laughing out loud at times with the things that she comes up with to say. Jarrid has never been a humours person always serious kind of dude but Ionie can make him laugh. I mean like the belly shaking kind of laugh but I don't image he has much that shakes with all his muscles.

Angel Bait is one of those books that you just want to keep reading. You want to keep reading wanting to see what Ionie is going to say next. You also want to know what she is going to do next. Your like what kind of trouble is she going to get into now? Will Jarrid and his brothers find her in time to be able to save her? Why does the renegade angel want Ionie? Will he get his hands on her? These are some of the questions you will probably be asking when you are reading it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. So why don't you go and pick up your own copy today. I don't think you would be disappointed.

Starving, and desperate for money, she reluctantly accepts the Police Division's invitation to enroll in a covert Bounty Hunter program: an initiative devised to infiltrate the criminal underworld of the Fringers, and to force the very worst warrant dodging law-breakers to meet their fate--death.

Unfortunately, Silver doesn't realize that the Police Division is about to up the ante. They need more than little snippets of information and arrests--they need someone to pull the trigger. They need an executioner.

MY REVIEW

SILVER: Acheron
(A River of Pain)

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Silver has been discharged from her job as a hunter in the Police Division. She has been banned to the Fringe District which is populated with murderers, thieves and rapists. With no job or money it leaves her without any food or the supplies she needs to survive. Silver being in a dire need for money accepts an offer from the Police Division as a Bounty Hunter. As a Bounty Hunter she will go undercover like to help the police catch the worst of the criminals in the Fringe District.

Upon arriving in the Fringe District Silver finds a woman and decides to help her. Silver decides that keeping this woman a secret from everyone is the best thing to do. When Silver took the job from the Police Division she wasn't only thinking about taking care of herself she was also thinking of this woman she had discovered and needed her help. Silver has it tough trying to survive in a post- apocalyptic world with only her self to worry about but taking care of someone else probably makes it a lot harder on her.

Silver was trained to be a killer so you would think she would have no feelings for someone she doesn't know. Even though she is a girl who knows how to stand up and fight for herself still has a heart with feelings. Which means she is still alive inside and has a reason to fight and be a survivor.

I really enjoyed reading Silver: Acheron with all of the updated scientific technology. I have read a lot of post- apocalyptic books lately that were very great reads and Silver: Acheron was no different. As of this moment post- apocalyptic and dystopian books just happen to be my favorite genre. I can't wait for the next book in the Silver series. If you like reading post- apocalyptic and dystopian books then I highly recommend you give Silver: Acheron a try.

-Carrie, book reviewer at OnceUponATwilight.com

INTERVIEW

Emma Mills

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write Witchblood?

Emma Mills: Well anyone that has read anything about me will know that it was reading Stephanie Meyers 'Twilight' series that introduced me to the YA Paranormal genre. I then read several other great series… VA is probably my favorite… and was inspired to try writing after that.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Emma Mills: I didn't have the confidence when I was younger. I always had the imagination and my nose in books, but I believed my grammar, spellings… general ability wouldn't be good enough. At university I tried a couple of ideas, but never got beyond the first hurdle (the 1st chapter!) WitchBlood in 2010 was my first proper attempt at writing and I still can't quite believe people like my books!

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Emma Mills: My memory is dreadful but I could read when I started school at age 4. The first proper series I remember loving was Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree series. I read them to my little girl now!

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Emma Mills: YA remains my favorite genre. I don't have the time or inclination to read heavy pieces of literature… I left the book club I was in because frankly the books are always depressing! The last book I read was called Earth Girl by Janet Edwards and I'm gutted I have to wait a while till the sequel!

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Emma Mills: I honestly can't choose… nope, no way! I'm staring at my YA bookshelf in my study and looking at Harry Potter, Twilight, VA, Northern Lights, Terry Pratchett… impossible!

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Emma Mills: Oooo can I travel forward instead? After just reading Earth Girl I really fancy trying their colonized planets and portals! No wars, no violence…yep that's where I'll go to year 2792!

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Emma Mills: Well so far with my WitchBlood series it has been quite smooth. The first few chapters are always a nightmare and take me ages, but then the story starts flowing…

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Emma Mills: Yes, we should call our home Menagerie Mills as we currently have a large black dog (Labrador), a tabby cat, three chickens called Hermione, Ginny & Myrtle, a Rex Rabbit and several fish!

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Emma Mills: My favorite dinner is vegetarian enchiladas which I make with asparagus, mushrooms and loads of other yummy veggies… but I seriously couldn't live without cake! I usually bake once a week.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Emma Mills: Just to grow your idea until the characters begin to take shape… and take over your brain… and then have a go. Try and start writing and see what happens. That's all I did!

MY REVIEW

Witchblood

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

When we left off in Witchcraft book #2 in the Witchblood series, Jess and everyone else thought that Daniel, Jess' creator and the guy or vampire whom she is in love with along with his creator Eva think they both died in the explosion. The explosion that was caused by a null bomb that turns vampires into dust upon their death. Jess' is very upset over losing the love of her life. Jess is not convinced that Daniel is dead because she still feels a tiny spark of the connection that she and Daniel shared. Jess herself would have died in this explosion if it had not been for Luke an angel who Jess fed from when Daniel did not show up in time to let Jess feed from him. Jess' blood was drained from her causing her to almost die had it not been for Luke.

With Jess being half-vampire and half-witch she wants and needs to explore her witch side. So after going to court for killing the vampire that almost raped and killed her. The council concluded that she killed him in self defense and released into the custody of her Aunt who lives in American. Jess and her new friend Brittany who is also a witch both go to American to live with her aunt. Brittany being a minor and needing a sponsor like Jess convinces her aunt to take Brittany in as well and help her get her witch licenses too. Jess wants to be on her own, to be her own person and own boss. Having her licenses will help Jess and Brittany to accomplish this. Jess doesn't want to be connected to Daniel or anyone else in this way.

After moving to America Brittany wants to find her family and eventually become a part of their coven. She wants to know and be with her mother's family. When she meets Jess' cousin Noah they make a deal with each other. Brittany wants Noah to help her find her family while Noah wants her to talk Jess into feeding from him so that he can get his sister Susannah to come home. Brittany's family are into voodoo, hoodoo or whatever you want to call it. They are both very close and similar. She believes that her family are good people and not bad people. She is so innocent that she thinks her family would not hurt her much less dabble in dark magick. But when Brittany goes to visit them and Jess comes after her to rescue her she is in for a very big whopper of a surprise.

While Brittany has gone in search of her family Jess meets up with Daniel. She didn't know that he was in America. But when she sees him and he tells her again how sorry he is for making everyone think he was dead and tells her how much he still loves her and wants to be with her. She is not ready to forgive him. Daniel loves Jess and will do or wait as long as he has to in order for Jess to be a part of his life again. Jess loves Daniel but he hurt her so much that she not sure if she can trust him.

You know I have really, really loved all three books in the Witchblood series but book #3 Witchlove is my favorite one. I loved that in Witchlove we get to see the witch side of Jess. Not that I don't l don't love the vampire side. I love reading about both witches and vampires. So with the Witchblood series I get to read about both. I think Emma has out done herself in writing Witchlove. The first two books Witchblood book #1 and Witchcraft book #2 are both excellent books don't get me wrong here but Witchlove was out of this world. I can not wait to read the next book in the series Witch Hunt. I was so happy to hear that there would be a fourth book. This is such fantastical news. Thanks Emma for writing a fourth book and I hope you continue writing more and more books in this series.

I was so surprised and happy at the same time after reading the ending of Witchlove. I couldn't believe it but I am so happy for Jess. I can't wait to find out how Jess will feel when learns of this news. Will she be happy or will she be sad? In one way I think she will be happy but then in another way I think she maybe kind of sad too. Emma please, please, pleaseeeeeee hurry and write Witch Hunt.

If you have not read the Witchblood series well the only thing I can say then is that you need to go right now and pick up a copy of all three books. If you like reading about vampires, witches or angels then there is no way you could not like the Witchblood series. I can honestly say that Emma will not let you down with her writing or with the Witchblood series. Emma is another writer that I think no not think know that we should all keep our eyes on. Why you ask? Well not that she's not already but she is and will be a star one day. She is going to be right there with the big dogs like Stephen King.
