BOOK DESCRIPTION

Pharaoh, Mine

Kathryn is a veterinarian with a cause-she risks her financial security to help local cat rescue groups. When a stray cat, black with one green eye and one blue, meows at her door one night, Kathryn's view of rescues changes quickly.

In Ancient Egypt, the throne is passed to the firstborn son, and when the sun rises over his father's fresh tomb, Seti will claim his crown. Seti doesn't want to rule, but the only other option is death, and his half-brother is happy to oblige. Though Seti and Kathryn each need fulfillment in their lives, for one night they find peace in each other's arms. At dawn, Bast will return to ferry them back to their responsibilities.

EXCERPT

Pharaoh, Mine

The king's sarcophagus lay on a large carved stone in the center of the torch lit chamber. Seti paced across the compacted dirt, the oily smoke from the flames trailing behind him in a whirlwind of memory. Musky incense swirled over mounds of beaded offerings to the gods. He fell onto his knees, trembling. The lone melody of a cane ney snaked down into the tomb, the musician somewhere outside, with most of the mourners.

"Father," he whispered. No tears came. He fingered the painted hieroglyphs lining the edges of the wooden likeness of his father. The markings told stories of the king's honored past. The wars. The blood. The lives cut short and the many children. Many brothers.

"And I am firstborn. Why?" He pressed his sandal toe against the earthen floor and balled his hands into fists. Shaking, he stormed over to the servants who knelt by the vizier at the tomb's entrance. "Leave!"

The servants, half-bowing, scampered through the shortened doorway. Seti shook his head. They scurried like startled rats who had been lurking in shadows, waiting for the humans to leave the kitchen so they could rush out and steal crumbs.

"My king, you must calm down," the vizier said. The old man moved his staff side to side, in deference.

"I am not yet king, Pensekhmet. Not until morning." Seti rested his head on his father's image, freshly kohled on the surface of the wooden coffin. The paint smelled of sharp pine and heavy clay, alive and fresh-but his bitter old father lay inside-wrapped in linen and empty of his soul. The tyrant had finally had passed into the afterworld. Even now, he walked with the gods.

"When the sun rises, you will be king. It is time to put away your childish notions and accept your destiny."

Seti beat his fists against the wood in a slow rhythm. "I do not want to rule Egypt."

MY REVIEW

Pharaoh, Mine

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for review.

Kathryn Adams is a veterinarian and she is having Financial problems. She is not sure how much longer she can keep her practice going without making any money. The reason that she is having problems is because she likes helping the local cat rescue groups. They have so many cats in need of her services that she doesn't have time for appointments with other animals.

Seti has just laid his father to rest in Ancient Egypt. Seti is the firstborn son and when the sun rises over his father's tomb Seti will become the new king of Egypt. Seti does not want to be king and doesn't want to rule over Egypt. But the only way he can get out of being the new king is through death, his death. His half-brother is more than happy to help Seti with his problem.

Kathryn and Seti knew that something was missing from their lives but didn't know exactly what that something was. But with the help of Madame Eve's 1Night Stand and an ancient Egyptian goddess they get to spend 1Night of hot, sizzling passionate night of sexual activity together. Will 1Night be enough for the both of them? Can they be together forever? How would that be possible?

I am beginning to really become addicted to the 1Night Stand Series. I want to read all of them. I have only read a couple but they are addictive. They are short, sweet and get right down to business real quick like. If you like reading erotica with a paranormal twist added in that is also a quick read then you will love reading Pharaoh, Mine or any of the 1Night Stand books.

GUEST POST
Why Paranormal?
by Dianna Hardy

Thank you, Nancy, for suggesting this as a topic for this blog post: what made me decide to write paranormal fiction?
The truth may be a little out there for most! The thing is, that the paranormal has always been more real for me than the "normal". Ever since I can remember, I've had dreams about totem animals and my spirit guides, one of my totems being a snake. Snakes always appeared to me in my dreams from the age of at least three, to protect me when I needed protecting … from entities that I call "the shadow men".
Are you weirded out yet? Lol.
I'm not going to go into too much detail here, but I grew up in a normal family, within a well adjusted childhood, going to a normal school with normal friends … but no, I never felt "normal" and I suppose most people don't - I don't think that's too unusual.
At the age of nineteen, I had my very first proper Tarot reading by a friend and a clairvoyant. It was a fine reading, but I didn't think it was amazing or ground-breaking and soon forgot about it … until the Tarot found me again a year later and wanted me to be the reader. It sounds bizarre, but that's what happened.
And so, I began a journey of self-discovery, magick, witchcraft, shamanism … I delved into any and every occult area I could find, being sceptical of some, not interested in many, intrigued by others, and blown away by some.
Seven years later, and I was seeing warrior angels, fairies, entities which I didn't know (and still don't know) the names of, dream-journeying, talking to those passed over occasionally (not my forte), and all sorts. My life was very not normal, but normal for me.
The paranormal was normal for me, and that is the key to why I write it.
When it came to writing and publishing, I had no intention of writing fiction. I thought I would go into poetry and I had begun to put together a couple of small, mind-body-spirit "how-to" guides in chapbook form (they're due a reprint, actually…). I thought that that was the way I was going with writing.
Completely unprecedented, I discovered and started to write erotica as a way to expand my knowledge of ePublishing, and also because I enjoyed the challenge of writing sex scenes - sex, as one of the most intense and direct forms of energy, has close ties to magick - and I actually found it quite therapeutic to write! But writing in that genre didn't fulfil me completely. I'm more about character interactions and the plot, and I found myself beginning a story with those elements behind it: The Witching Pen series.
I was astonished at how people took to it, and I haven't looked back. I found my niche and my passion in writing. Paranormal and Fantasy fiction (for adults!) felt the most natural way to express my thoughts and creative flair. I feel much more comfortable writing fiction, because, for me alone, it means that I can be more "real" - ironic, huh?
Nowadays, I talk less about my occult background. It's there, still embedded within my life - it still exists; it can never not exist - but it is not my career as I once thought it would be. What I give to you is my writing instead: fiction, with elements of truth for anyone who resonates with it, and simply an enjoyable read (hopefully) for anyone who doesn't resonate with it in that way :)

MY REVIEW
Releasing The Wolf

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Lydia has been having these dreams and not just any ordinary dreams. These dreams are about a very hot, sexy and muscled hulk of a man. This dude is so hot he will make your tongue reach out and slap your brains out. Well actually all the guys in Releasing The Wolf are very attractive. Lydia had been having these dreams for a very long time.
Lydia is a very independent girl who works 3 jobs just so she can make it on her own and not have to depend on her mother. On occasion she will go out on a date with a man, a date that usually ends up with them in one of their beds. Lydia has a very strong libido. Lydia does care about the guys she goes out with but at the same time the reason she goes with them is because of her highly over active need to have sex.
The new twist that Dianna has put on the werewolf mating ritual is awesome! It is very unique and intriguing. Dianna knows how to tell a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, hanging on waiting to see what is going to happen next. Releasing The Wolf is one of those stories that will pull you into its world and make you feel like you are a part of Lydia's world.
I have never read erotica much but as long as it has a paranormal twist to it I will give it a try. I am so very glad that I decided to read Releasing The Wolf even with knowing it was erotica. I have now come to the conclusion that maybe everyone should mix things up once in a while and go out side their realm of things and add a little spice to their reading material. I can't wait to shake up my reading world a little more with Cry Of The Wolf the second book in the Eye Of The Storm Series. Expected to be released April 19, 2013.

Review: Drawing Blood By Richard Finney

Drawing Blood (Relict, #1)

Book Title: Drawing Blood

Author: Richard Finney

Series: Relict, #1

Published: October 15th 2012

Publisher: Lono Publishing

Paperback

Pages: 236

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

Drawing Blood

With humanity at the edge of self-annihilation…

Vampires, living in the shadows of humans for thousands of years, joins the war to end all wars. Their intervention is motivated by the fear that without their intervention the extermination of their food supply will trigger their extinction as well.

Matt Haynes and Tyra Redmond briefly met in the Green Zone. He was a world weary mercenary. She was working for the State Department trying to rebuild a country.

Years later, when their paths cross again, a war has ravaged the planet and decimated the human population. Both are now prisoners at a “Blood Donation Center,” known as CCC197, where they must endure a daily dehumanizing existence of being kept alive only to serve as a source of blood for their captors.

Matt and Tyra must overcome their clashing personalities if they are to plan and execute an audacious escape to freedom which will include all the inmates of CCC197.

Standing in their way is a security team manned by human traitors working for the Vampires. And of course any attempt to escape from the concentration camp will mean defeating a species that has superior strength, cunning, and intelligence.

And for Matt Haynes, there is an even more compelling complication -- one of the vampire commanders of CCC197 is his brother… or was his brother… before he became a member of the undead.

“Drawing Blood” is a heart stopping, paranormal, thriller about the fight for survival, and the struggle to maintain human relationships in a world that has been re-made by the undead.

This is the first of the RELICT BOOK SERIES, each an OPEN ENDED NOVEL depicting the fall of humanity and the attempt by the Vampires to maintain control of their new world order.

The text of “Drawing Blood” is over 47,000 words! But…

ALERT TO ALL INTERESTED READERS: The novel does “end” with “TO BE CONTINUED.” Meaning this is the first book in a series of books.

ANOTHER WARNING: Even if you have read dozens of books about the undead, we bet you will discover “Drawing Blood – Book One of the RELICT Series,” is not your typical Vampire novel.

MY REVIEW

Drawing Blood

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

The vampires in Drawing Blood are unlike others that I have read. They don't sparkle, they don't fall in love or have feelings. Not that I don't like the sparkly kind which I do. The vampires have taken over the world. They are now in charge and rule over the human population. The humans are captured and kept in donation camps. The vampires refer to them as "juice boxes". These vamps have come up with a brilliant idea on how to take care of their feeding process. They treat the humans the same way as humans treated their animals. But this is all humans are to them they are their food supply. (Ok now this thought is making me think about how cows and pigs feel).

Now on to some of the characters. We have Matt who was a world weary mercenary. Matt acts like some with no feelings as if he only cares about himself. Matt has seen and been through a lot as a mercenary not to mention what he has witnessed since the vamps have taken over. Matt has a brother, Ian one of the commanders in the camp that he believed died a long time ago. But when he is captured and thrown in one of the donation camps he finds out that his brother has become a member of the undead.

Then we have Tyra who worked for the State Department trying to rebuild a country. Matt and Tyra have met before in the Green Zone. If they are going to escape from the camp they have to put aside their inconsistencies and work together. They need to come up with a very good plan otherwise they will never get out. The vamps have humans who has turned to the dark side to help out the vamps. The vamps use humans as guards for the prisoners in the camp. Let me rewind here for minute. I say humans that has turned to the dark side but how do I know if they have actually turned against humans. What if this is the only way they know how to survive? What if the vamps gave them no other choice? If they had refused then the vamps would probably have killed them.

How will Matt, Tyra and the rest of their friends escape? What kind of plan will they come up with? Will their plan work? What will they find on the outside if they do escape? Well I am afraid that I may have already gave away too much so I am not going to say any more. You will just have to read it to find out. If you love vampires then I am sure you will love Drawing Blood as I did.

I would now like to thank the author Richard Finney for contacting me about reviewing Drawing Blood. I had entered Goodreads First Read contest but sadly I didn't win. I was looking forward to reading it so you can image how I felt when I didn't win. But Richard Finney really made my day when he contacted me. Thanks Richard Finney!

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Wild Thunder

On leave of absence from the police force and desperate to resolve the intense anger inside him, Ethan James escapes to the Shenandoah Mountains...alone.

During one of the worst storms to hit the area in years, he's surprised when he opens the door to find Shanay Gold, an old friend, and sometime submissive lover, dripping wet and looking sexy as hell. So sexy, he has to keep reminding himself he's kept her at arms-length because of the future she wants. A future he can't give her.

When lightning sparks an old flame, desires blaze to life, and Shanay and Ethan are left with little choice but to roll with passion's Wild Thunder.

EXCERPT

Wild Thunder

Shanay Gold…the very last person he expected to see. He'd tried to avoid her during the last couple of times he'd been home to see his parents. A coward's way of things, but after their last time together, he'd resolved not to repeat the mistake again.

She wanted things in life that he did not. Kids, home, and garden, savings plans and forever-after. She didn't deserve a man who bedded her and left before morning. Though he'd wanted a relationship with Isabella, he hadn't been hurrying into anything long-term. Of course, that was before everyone he knew paired up…and seemed so happy.

Besides, Shanay was a family friend. If things didn't work out with her, he'd never hear the end of it from his mother. He'd never be able to look her father in the eye again. It had already proven difficult, and no one knew about them. It would be hell if their parents found out.

"Hang on a sec, would you? I want to get out of these clothes before I wrap the blanket around me."

Her words registered. His body jerked as she pulled off the sweatshirt, revealing a lime green bra underneath. His heart raced, seeing her luscious body encased by the lace. He coughed to clear his dry throat. "There is a bathroom just down the hall."

Her laughter surprised him. He didn't see anything humorous.

"As if you haven't seen it all before. Don't be such a prude. Besides, I don't want to track water all over, and it's warmer here."

INTERVIEW

Kacey Hammell

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write Wild Thunder?

Kacey Hammell: The hero, Ethan. He's been through a lot, needed his story told, and is stubborn as hell. When he really needs to let loose he does it all in his own way. *g* Plus there's a thunderstorm brewing outside too!

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Kacey Hammell: My husband encouraged me to write and it was about eight years ago. I never had ambitions to sit and write a story but I did and I'm forever grateful to him for suggesting it. I love every minute of the writing journey - even when there are ups and downs - and can't envision doing anything else now.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Kacey Hammell: That first book that I loved and that I remember so greatly/fondly, was when I was 13, and it was The Diary of Anne Frank. There were many before that since I've been an avidreader for decades but that was one of the most profound books I'd ever read.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Kacey Hammell: There are many but I love Contemporary Romances and Suspense stories best.

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Kacey Hammell: Again, a lot of books on my keeper shelves, but along with Diary of Anne Frank, I love Little Women, Of Mice & Men, Les Mis, Pride & Prejudice, and anything by JD Robb/Nora Roberts, Cherry Adair.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Kacey Hammell: Too many to list, but top 3 - Cherry Adair, Jaci Burton, Nora Roberts/JD Robb.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Kacey Hammell: Ireland. My paternal grandfather told us kids so many stories/memories from his childhood before they moved here. I'd love to visit some of the places he mentioned.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Kacey Hammell: Depends on the story/characters/plot. There are many hills and valleys to writing. Where one thing can come easily, there might be another angle that is difficult to shove through. When everything finally comes together seamlessly is when I smile wide.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Kacey Hammell: I live on a cattle farm, and have been a cowgirl all my life. With a herd of cattle and chickens, we also have a budgie named Dino, a cat named Lily, and a Cockapoo named Peaches. And there are many rabbits and deer that move from field to field which always makes me smile.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Kacey Hammell: Tacos, chocolate, spaghetti (my husbands!!!), and peanut butter cookies. But none of it all together! LOL

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Kacey Hammell: Write what you love…the genres you love to read. Read as many stories from some of the best authors, identify the elements of each genre that really seem to hit with readers and learn your craft. Then just write and write. The best promo for any author is that next release. Never give up.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The writer: Kacey is a multi-published erotic romance author who writes mainly in the Contemporary/Romantic Suspense genres. She is a true romantic at heart.

BLURB

Survivor Roundup

Red always knew she would have to face the man who nearly destroyed her. She just didn't figure it would happen so soon . . .

With the plague sweeping across the nation, destroying many and turning others into walking corpses, survivors head West in search of a chosen land, a place designed to keep the infected out, while sealing survivors inside. In theory, the idea seems the only way to keep humanity alive. In practice, it doesn't matter whether a person is on the inside or the out-there is no humanity.

. . . And even though John Gatherum hunted her down and instigated their reunion, Red's no longer the passive girl he once manipulated. This time, she has a hidden agenda of her own.

Kill him. Save her family. Save herself.

MY REVIEW

Survivor Roundup

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a free copy of the book from the author for an honest review.

Red, Trace, Wen, Caroline, their new baby girl, Rivers, Fisher and Ira are all still living in the military fort. What few supplies that they have are dwindling away. If they are going to survive someone has to risk going outside the walls of the fort to face the zombies and bring back more. So Red and Trace volunteer to be the ones to go find more food for everyone.

They run into a whole world of trouble outside the walls. The zombies are not the only thing they have to worry about on the outside. Humans are their biggest problems. Red and Trace is kidnapped by some evil and cruel brothers. They end up separated from each other and Red thinks that Trace is dead.

In Survivor Roundup we have some new characters join us Aponi and her little brother Kitchi along with Nash one of her kidnappers. Red's brother Davis also joins them after he figures out what kind of person John Gatherum really is. John has been using Davis to lure Red into his lair only Davis did not know this. John will do anything he has to in order to get his hands on Red no matter who it may hurt or how many lies he has to tell.

Red has a plan she is tired of running and hiding from John so she is going to find him and kill him. Then she can go back to her "family" and not have to hide any more. She has to be quick about it or her "family" will not survive without her. Her "family" is waiting and depending on her to bring food back to them.

I love reading books or watching movies with zombies in them. I have been known to watch a few westerns like Lonesome Dove in my time too. But to have zombies and cowboys together in the same story is one extremely brilliant idea. I love it! Wouldn't you just love to see Trace on the big screen? I loved reading the first book WANTED: Dead or Undead in the Zombie West Series. I also love Survivor Roundup. And now I can't decide which one I liked the best. They were both so awesome.

I can't wait to find out more about Red, Trace and all the other characters in the next book Dead Plains which is not due to be published until summer 2013. I got a sneak peek at the first chapter at the end of Survivor Roundup. All I'm going to say about it is it will be another fantastical read. I sure am going to miss Red, Trace and everyone else. Summer is a long time to have to wait for the next book. I have so loved reading the Zombie West series and would like to say thanks Angela for writing it and giving me the opportunity to read it. Angela, you and the Zombie West series rock!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dead or Undead author

I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I'm not crazy. I'm an author. For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West-and loving it. My zombies don't sparkle, and they definitely don't cuddle. At least, I wouldn't suggest it.

I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn't require math. I can't spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.

As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I've been writing that long. It has only been the past few years that I've pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.

You can find me at my website, where I blog obsessively about my writing process and post updates on my current works. I'm also on Twitter and Facebook, but be forewarned, I tweet and post more than a normal person.

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Kale is a angel, a collector his job is to collect the souls of humans when they die. Kale is changing he has been watching humans and wondering how it feels to touch someone and how it feels to be touched. Kale wants to know what love is. Humans can't see angles but when Kale meets Samantha he realizes she can see him. Kale asks himself how is this possible? Can she really see him or is it just him wishing for her to see him?

Samantha is involved in an accident and Kale is sent to collect her soul but for some unknown reason he can't take her soul. Kale saves her life instead. After he saves Samantha from death he is sent to earth to live as a human. He is no longer an angel. He wakes up in the hospital with Drs., nurses and everyone else asking him who he is and what happen to him. Kale knows he can't tell them the truth besides they wouldn't believe him anyway. So the only options he has is to lie to them and tell them he can't remember.

Samantha sees Kale lying in the hospital bed and knows that she has seen him before. She ask the nurses and Drs. who he is? When she finds out that he has amnesia and has nowhere to go when he is released from the hospital. Samantha takes Kale home with her and lets him know that he can stay with her until he remembers who he is or he can find a job and make it on his own whichever comes first.

Samantha has a very good soul she is one of the best persons you would ever meet. She is an "angel" herself. How many people do you know would take a complete stranger into their home? I liked how Samantha could feel and just knew that Kale was a good person and would never hurt her. Kale was a sweet heart who loved Samantha very much. He gave up so much just to be with her. Not to mention the pain that he suffered and he knew what would happen to him if he saved her but he saved her anyway.

I have not read many books with angels in them but so far I have liked all the ones that I have read and The Collector was no exception. I loved how Samantha trusted Kale the love that they shared. If you like reading books about angels then I would say you would definitely like The Collector. I would like to say thanks a lot to Elizabeth for allowing me to read and review The Collector and look forward to reading more of her books.

Review: Cranberry Blood By Elizabeth Morgan

Cranberry Blood (Book 1 in The Blood Series)

Book Title: Cranberry Blood

Author: Elizabeth Morgan

Series: Blood #1

Published: July 2nd 2012

Publisher: Noble Romance Publishing

Ebook

Pages: 281

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

Cranberry Blood

Killing Vampires? Easy. Tracking someone? Simple. Helping, and protecting a Vampire slayer . . . . Bloody hard work!

Thirteen years ago, Brendan Daniels made a deal with a psychic. In exchange for information on the whereabouts of a Rogue Werewolf, he promised to help and protect Sofia's granddaughter. Unfortunately, he had no idea what he was letting himself, or his Pack, in for.

Nothing about Heather is simple, from her weird dietary needs to her life’s mission. The girl can handle herself, but the promise to protect her soon becomes a need, and one that he can't fully understand.

Vampire Slayer. Born Infected. Blood addict . . . but not by choice.

Heather Ryan is the current Slayer in a long family line. Like all before her, she has spent her life searching for her ancestor, Marko Pavel, the Vampire her family has sworn to kill. If that isn't complicated enough, Heather is also a born "Infected" and to keep her from becoming insane or giving in to her darker side, she is on a very strict diet.

Now that her Grandmother Sofia has passed, it is up to Heather to take the family legacy into her own hands; Or at least, it would have been, if her Grandmother hadn't sent a Werewolf to help her.

What is the irritating Brendan supposed to help her with? Sofia never told either of them. Luckily, it doesn't take long for Heather and Brendan to find out that the Vampires have big plans, and that the Vamps have waited a long time for them both.

MY REVIEW

Cranberry Blood

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Heather Ryan is a slayer and has spent her whole life hunting a vampire that her family has sworn to kill. This rogue vampire is her ancestor, Marko Pavel. Heather is also a vampire she was born "infected". Which means she was not bitten by a vampire and then she turned into one. It means she was born a vampire. Heather is on a very strict diet of mixing animal blood in with her cranberry juice to keep her dark side under control. Heather does not like feeding from humans.

Brendan Daniels is a werewolf who made a promise to Heather's grandmother a long time ago upon her death to protect and keep Heather safe. Her grandmother Sofia had info on a rogue werewolf that Brendan was in need of at the time. So now after Sofia has died Brendan has entered into Heather's life and home to keep his end of their agreement. But Heather doesn't want him there. She is a tough girl and can take care of herself. But Heather soon finds out that she does need help and that she has to learn to trust people sometimes.

Heather and Brendan are kidnapped by the one vampire that she has been hunting for as long as she has been a slayer. Their kidnappers run experiments on both of them which causes them a lot of physical pain. How will they escape from their captors? What kind of experiments are they doing on them? Will Brendan's pack know he is in danger and need their help? How do they find out?

If you like reading about vampires and werewolves then I think you would really love reading Cranberry Blood with the new twist that Elizabeth has put on being born a vampire. I would like to take this opportunity now to thank Elizabeth for asking me to review Cranberry Blood. I look forward to reading more of her work.

SYNOPSIS
His Black Wings

Claren Maidstone has been forced to flee her childhood home after the death of her parents and a vicious assault from a sadistic young man who intends to marry her. Claren changes her identity and finds employment as an assistant to the handsome Fredrick Lowood, a generous yet mysterious benefactor. However, she soon finds out his generosity comes at a price. Fredrick wishes for Claren to befriend his disfigured son who resides in seclusion at their estate, Westwind.

Fredrick Lowood knows what the history books do not teach, that the Grand Council built this new world of peace and beauty on hidden blood and greed. He has plotted for years to bring down the family that enslaved his own people. Suddenly, he has the last living heir in his grasp.

Etrigan Lowood rejects the world that forces him to hide. He is powerful, plagued with a terrible dark beauty: WINGS. It is these wings that carry him out only at night to watch the unwanted intruder in his home. A creature of refined instinct yet little social grace, he is strangely captivated by Claren but knows nothing of how her family's dark past is intertwined with his own. Through their blossoming friendship, Etrigan realizes he still retains his human heart and yearns for Claren's love.

Kurten Wandsworth is the only son of the Mayor of St.Marhen. Kurten lives his life fueled by cruelty and lust. Whatever he wants he takes and he wants Claren to be his wife even it if kills her. Scarred by Claren he hunts her down mercilessly until he can set a trap which she will never be able to escape from.

EXCERPT
His Black Wings

Fredrick's thoughts were interrupted by a loud crashing sound as he saw the double doors to his library burst open with tremendous force. They slammed against the inside walls to his library and bounced back.

"Etrigan. How good to see you so soon after my arrival." Fredrick said to his son, genuinely pleased.

Perhaps this would work after all. Especially now that I have put my original design on hiatus.

A tall form clad in black strode into the room sending books and paper flying everywhere. Etrigan was a younger version of his handsome father. Jet black hair that desperately needed a haircut, it curled around the nape of his neck and ears. While his eyes were blue, they were the darkest blue, darker than his father's. Eyes that displayed anger and inner torment one moment, and great passion the next. His strong Greek nose fit perfectly with the rest of his features, not underwhelming and not overpowering. Lips red and pouty were always set in either a frown or a scowl but never in a smile. When he stood without slouching he was taller than most men at six foot five. His form was muscular, yet lithe, graceful, and strong. In a word, Etrigan was beautiful in a masculine way. He would have been the envy of every man in the outside world and the desire of every woman who set eyes upon him, save for one thing.

His black wings.

They were massive, soft, and leather like, similar to the patagium of a bat, but thicker. They started off narrow, then projected outwards from between his shoulder blades. He had slim bones that ran through them in true bat like fashion. At each wing tip he had a menacing glossy black spike. A natural bone that was part of his wingtips, he could use these tips to rip flesh or gently move things in his way, so great was his control. At their full expansion his wing span was easily twelve feet.

Fredrick looked up at his son who now stood menacingly over him and recalled when he was a small child, he had broken one of the bones in his wings. It took him a month to heal. He had been trying to carry off a boar that was larger than himself. Always the little savage, he insisted on eating the boar before his wing was set with a splint.

Now his son's wings were being held in but wanting to span out in anger.

"Why have you brought her here!?" He demanded harshly of his father. Fredrick sighed.

GUEST POST

How Do You Keep Your Writing Different

We have all heard the phrase" Write what you know" and "Write what you like to read". I find these two phrases when coupled, can give birth to some very interesting stories. One of the things I find disappointing when reading new fiction is to be half way through a story and think to myself, "This is a lot like ...."Then upon finishing the story, I find that it was so similar to another well known book, I am surprised there was not a plagiarism lawsuit filed.

There is nothing wrong with borrowing a classic idea and putting your own spin on it. In fact those are some of my favorite types of stories to read. However a person wants to make sure that they are not writing a cookie cutter version of a story that has already been written. People are smart and when they read your book they will be able to tell.

When I get an idea for story I will go over it and even do research to see if there are similar story lines....and sometimes I won't. Like the honey badger, I just won't care. Since writing is a creative outlet, you have to write stories that make you happy. If you want to make money though, you may want to approach it from an entirely different angle. Hopefully a profitable and marketable one. Insert tongue in cheek here.

MY REVIEW

His black wings

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of His black wings from the author for an honest review.

Claren Maidstone lost both of her parents on the same day at the same time in an accident. After the funeral a man Kurten Wandsworth who has been coming to her home every Sunday for months shows up at her home. Kurten wants Claren as his wife but Claren wants no part of him. She thinks that with her parents no longer around she won't have to put up with Kurten.

On the day that she buries her parents and he shows up at her house wanting to comfort her he attacks Claren and she fights back. She injures him severely she knows that when the police find out what she has done they will lock her up or so she believes. Claren leaves her only home and assumes a new identity. With her new identity she finds employment with Ferdrick Lowood as his assistant. Fredrick takes her to his home, Westwind. He ask her to befriend his deformed son Etrigan.

Etrigan hides from the world and only goes out at night when everyone is a sleep and can not see him. At first Etrigan does not like the fact that his father has brought this woman to live in their home. He tries to make Claren's life at Westwind so miserable that she will leave. But after finding out that she has just lost both of her parents and is hurting like he is his feelings for her change. He becomes a sweet and gentle person and wants only to protect and keep her safe.

Claren meets two guys Dekker and Hector who are best friends and compete against each other to see who will win claren's heart. Claren is such a nice person that she doesn't allow them to compete against one another only I'm not sure that they knew exactly what she was doing. I thought that when Dekker and Hector found out about Etrigan that they would go and tell everyone about him. But they could see right from the beginning that Claren and Etrigan had feelings for one another and never caused any trouble. Dekker and Hector became Etrigan's friend as well as Claren's. The only friends that Etrigan had ever had.

Claren thinks she has left her old life behind with all the old ghost haunting her but she finds out that she is wrong when she runs into Kurten in town. She never thought that he would find her. Kurten has not changed at all he is just as mean as he ever was. Now he is like if he can't have Claren then no one else will either.

It took me a while to read His Black Wings not because I didn't like the book but because I was sick and didn't feel like sitting up or doing anything. I liked how Fredrick came to realize that Claren was not responsible for what her grandfather did to his family. He got to know Claren and knew that she was not the same kind of person that he was. You never knew what kind of mood Fredrick was going to be in. Claren didn't know from one minute to the next if he was going be very rude to her or not. There were times when I didn't know which one Claren loved or was going to be with Fredrick or Etrigan.

If you like books with a lot of mystery and romance then you will love His Black Wings. His Black Wings kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going on to the point where I couldn't put it down at times and when I felt like sitting up that is. What do you think about four guys instead of three? What I am trying to say is that at times Fredrick acted as if he was jealous of Claren. The way he would get all mad and storm out of the room leaving Dekker and Hector alone with Claren.

Review: Indomitable By J. Meyers

Indomitable (an Intangible novella)

Book Title: Indomitable

Author: J. Meyers

Series: Intangible 0.75

Published: December 22nd 2012

Ebook

Pages: 50

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS

Indomitable

Perhaps the most dangerous person to gain unimaginable power is the one who feels oppressed.

And full of wrath. For very good reason.

MY REVIEW

Indomitable

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Indomitable is a novella about a character Jonas out of J. Meyers novel Intangible. Jonas was one of my favorite characters from Intangible. I hope that Sera and Jonas get together in the next book Imaginable. I have read both Intangible and Intuition and loved them both. If you have not read them yet then I think you need too. Why? You may ask well because they are very great, fantastic reads.

Jonas is a vampire who in Intangible was sent to kill Sera and her twin brother Luke. Indomitable tells us who Jonas is and how he became a vampire. Jonas has been a vampire for 200 years. Indomitable tells of Jonas' life before he became a vampire and who his maker Lilith was. Jonas' was a slave with a very mean, cruel, evil "overseer" a sorry excuse of a man. I don't see how he could even be called a man much less a human.

Jonas is a man or I guess I should say vampire with a very big heart. He is just an all around great guy, Just don't cross his ass or mess with anyone that he cares about because he just may come around for a visit and bite your ass.

I can't wait to read Imaginable to find out more about Sera, Luke, Fye, Jonas and all the other characters from Intangible. Will Sera and Jonas become a couple? I certainly hope so. Will Luke and Fye get together? Hopefully, yes. Can Jonas save Sera and Luke with Fye's help? I am anxiously a waiting the arrival of Imaginable.
