Excerpt:
Running was tiring and she so badly wanted somewhere to call home. She had been on her way to stay with a childhood friend in Wichita Falls when her truck broke down, and even though it had only been two days ago, it felt like another lifetime.
"I guess that happens sometimes with older vehicles. The parts aren't as easy to find as they used to be," she finally said when she got the coffee swallowed. "Isn't your friend in Wichita Falls going to be worried about you?" Shad asked, walking around the now clean desk and inspecting the files she had neatly stacked on one side.
"Oh," she said, setting down her cup next to his on the desk and picking up an envelope from the top of one of the filing cabinets. "Could you mail this for me? It's a letter telling her what happened."
Shad smiled at her. "A letter? You have heard of phones, right? We may be out in the country, but we've got fancy things like phones and electricity."
"Old school is just how I roll." She winked and turned away from him, hoping he wouldn't catch the fear in her eyes. If her experience with the stalker had taught her nothing else, it had made her very aware of the influence technology had over everyone's life, even technology as basic as a telephone.
"I'm going to start getting lunch ready. I'll be sure to come and get you whenever it's done."
"What are you making?" she asked, licking her lips mockingly.
"It's a special recipe. You'll just have to wait to find out," he told her, winking a little as he headed to the door.
"You know, as good as you cook, I'm surprised you live in this house alone." she joked, putting her hands on her hips and smiling broadly. He had cooked all of the meals for the two of them since her arrival. "You've put five pounds on me already."
He looked her up and down, appraising her, and suddenly Clara felt almost naked in the shorts and button-up shirt she was wearing, as if his eyes were searing into her flesh. "You were too skinny. The five pounds filled you out in all the right places."
He reached out and ran the palm of his hand down her arm. She shivered under his touch, but she didn't take her eyes from his. They had darkened again, and she could see the desire there and knew it was reflected in hers as well. Before she could think about what she was doing, she put her arms around his neck, drew his face to hers, and kissed him.
His lips were hard at first, but after a moment, they softened, and he returned her embrace. When his tongue slipped into her mouth she groaned low and leaned into him as a fire uncoiled in her abdomen. It had been so long since a man had made her feel this way, and she felt herself slipping into unknown territory.
For once, she let herself go.

Book Description:

As false accusations of witchcraft consume Salem Village, eighteen-year-old Poppy Seabrooke, a true witch, is content to stay away from the hysteria and more importantly from the relentless advances of Angus Wolfe, a powerful warlock masquerading as Salem's pastor.

When Poppy uses her magic to help a young boy, she is arrested. Angus is the only person who can help her, but, in return, she must promise her hand in marriage. In desperation, Poppy's grandmother sends her two hundred years into the future to hide. Poppy finds herself years from home in the middle of a strange place called Montana where rooms light up without candles or sorcery, steam puffing dragons roar across fields on tracks, and cows sprout horns as long as tree trunks. And while Poppy hides from the man who turns her heart cold as ice, she discovers the man who can set it on fire.

Cade Tanner has always lived fast and hard, and he prefers it that way. The last thing he needs is a girl to distract him from running the cattle ranch his father left him. But Poppy, the sweetly innocent beauty with the soft smile and dark eyes, who seemingly fell from the sky, is tough to ignore. But Cade soon finds that falling for Poppy comes with a dangerous price.

Short Excerpt:

As I trotted back toward the inner pastures, feminine laughter drifted over the tops of the tall grass. Jackson's laughter followed, and I trotted River in that direction. Libby's plan had not been thwarted by my refusal. Jackson leaned his forearm on the pommel of his saddle as he watched Poppy ride circles on our old gelding. I rode up next to him.

Her long hair had escaped the pins holding it, and it shimmered like gold in the sharp afternoon sunlight. Her sweet bottom was still tucked neatly in a pair of my old denims, and it popped up and down on the seat of the saddle in perfect rhythm with her soft cries of joy.

Jackson cupped his hand around his mouth. "Sit back, Poppy. You're leaning too far forward." He dropped his hand.

She swept a long strand of hair off her face and sat back.

"Now that is a picture," Jackson said.

My pulse sped up just watching her trot clumsy circles around the pasture. "What that is, Jacks, is a whole lot of trouble wrapped in the prettiest package I've ever seen."

Jackson's eyes were wide. "What's this? Cade Tanner's confidence finally shattered by a girl? I'll admit she's not like any other girl we've met, but I'm still surprised."

It took all my will to look away from her. I reined River around. "Confidence hasn't got anything to do with it. I just know trouble when I'm looking at it." River's hooves plodded over the drought hardened ground. I wasn't fifty feet from Jackson when Poppy screamed. I spun River around so fast, the horse nearly fell back on its haunches. Poppy had slipped to the side of the saddle but had righted herself just as I reached her.

Her smile greeted me, and it was the kind of smile that could make a guy forget his own name. "Red went one way and I went the other," she said with a laugh. She reached forward and patted the horse's thick neck. "He slowed down as soon as he knew I was off balance." Her cinnamon brown eyes lifted and she looked at me. "Forgive me if I startled you. I shouldn't have screamed like that."

"You didn't startle me." Of course my heartbeat had a whole different interpretation of it. Jackson rode up next to us. He grinned smugly at me. "Well, Cade, you always were one to ride toward trouble instead of away from it."

My Review:

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Poppy Seabrooke is an eighteen year old who lives with her grandmother, Nonni and little sister, Mari. Poppy is a witch and will use her magic when she is not suppose too. Poppy lives in Salem, MA. in 1692. Although Poppy only uses her magic for good things her grandmother has told her more than one time not too.

One day Poppy and Mari are on their way home from town and they see some boys picking on another little boy. Poppy wants to help the little boy so she uses her magic to save him. Then she is arrested and thrown in jail for using her magic. While in jail Angus, a warlock and a very powerful one at that wants Poppy all for himself. He visit Poppy in jail and makes a deal with her. He tells her he will get her out of jail if she will marry him.

Poppy doesn't want to marry him but she doesn't see any other way. Her grandmother finds out about the deal she made with him and uses her magic to send Poppy 200 years into the future. Poppy is supposed to end up in Salem 200 years from now but instead she ends up in Montana in 1862.

Cade Tanner and his friend Jacks find Poppy after she lands in Montana. Cade takes her home and his family take her in until her grandmother can come and get her and take her home. Cade and Poppy know that she will not be staying long and they both know better than to fall in love with each other but they do anyway. Who can control love?

I never expected Distraction to be as good as it was. I love reading books about Salem witches but Distraction was way different than any I have read so far. In the beginning I thought Poppy was a little immuture but she grew as the story progressed. She turned out to be a very nice young lady. Everyone liked her right off the bat. Who wouldn't like her she is so sweet of a person.

Cade, now there is a cowboy if I ever saw one which I haven't. I'm just saying. I loved how Cade talked always joking or maybe he wouldn't. Maybe he was being sarcastic. But oh well I still liked him and I bet any of you ladies out there would too. Hey you want to meet Cade? Well then go get yourself a copy of Distraction and meet him. I can't wait to read the next book in the series Unbreakable.

It told by 10 years old Natalie Tinti who is not only a multi- awarded talented writer, she is also an amazing artist!

The Power of Imagination (book 1)

While deciding what to do next, there's a veritable blizzard of ideas put forth, and the girls have to sift through them all to come up with a plan of action. Chapter 7

Meeka's World

Meeka began to create the next part of the group story. "Meekasoo, the frog lover, lived near the Kingdom of Frog Pond in the Green Hotel. While Ninaka was exploring her way toward the birthday party, Meekasoo found a three-eyed-rainbow-frog for Bellkoo's birthday, to which she too was invited. Meekasoo thought to herself, "Who would not love this amphibian beauty? He is s-o-o-o-o cute, handsome, and adorable! Look at him, look at him! His eyes sparkle like Prince Charming's!'

As she started to reach for the frog, a very rare, black colored lily pad, right in the middle of the pond, caught her eye. 'Look how beautiful this lily pad is! I would love to get some measurements of this Night Beauty before it closes up.

"Meekasoo grabbed her special bag full of scientific instruments that went every-where with her. Inside her bag was a ruler, a stopwatch, a barometer, a thermometer, a calculator, a scale, a speedometer, and of course, her favorite frog pencil and red notebook. She planned to record her measurements in section 199.072 of her notebook: Lily Pad Observations."

"Sounds of 'squish, squash, squish, squash' echoed everywhere as Meekasoo waded toward her project. Time passed very quickly as the science loving girl gathered measurements for her red notebook with excitement. Then Meekasoo noticed a beautiful reflection of the full moon on the pond. The moon was already high up in the sky and shimmering very brightly. 'Oh, no! I forgot about the birthday party.' Meekasoo exclaimed! She began to sprint toward Bellkoo's castle through the dark forest, using her homemade paperclip compass for navigating. When she reached the Hall of Lollipop Singers, she realized that she had forgotten something. 'Bellkoo's gift! Oh well, I'll bring two gifts next year,' sighed Meekasoo as she strolled toward the party excitedly."

Author: H. G. Ferguson
Genre: Horror
Publisher: Written World Communications
Format: Paperback
Length: 436 pages

Publication Date: December 20th 2011

Book Description From Goodreads:

A pale, cloaked and hooded immigrant with haunting amber eyes wanders into the backcountry of 1755 Pennsylvania. Her name is Rebecca. Her curse is a rare genetic disorder, responsible for all the world's legends of the Nosferatu, the Wampyr...the Vampire. Burned by sunlight, driven by a hellish need to drink human blood, possessing superhuman strength and senses, Rebecca must live in the shadows, but never in darkness, for she is a believer in Jesus Christ. Forced to flee her native Wales, to America she has journeyed, seeking Sanctuary and a new life where her secret is not known. This new life will bring her many friends, fiendish enemies and the love of a Mohawk husband when Rebecca accepts captivity to free a thirteen-year-old colonial girl. But as the French set La Guerre Sauvage, astir in the backcountry with death and destruction in its wake, threatening everyone Rebecca loves, only a Vampire can stop them, even if she must pay the ultimate price.

My Review:

I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

When I read the summary of New Blood I was like no way a vampire who is a christian. I had to read this one to see how a vampire could be a christian. Well it is possible not all vampires are mean and evil some are good.

And Rebecca is proof that a vampire can be a christian. Rebecca can go out in the daylight but she can't be in the direct sunlight or she will burn up like any other vampire. Rebecca was not turned she was born like this. She is very fast and strong. She has a strong thirst for human blood which she hates but can't do anything about it. But she won't hurt people she cares about and who is her friend.

Rebecca travels a lot and ends up in a new town with nowhere to stay but she is lucky when she meets a woman who takes her in and gives her a place to stay and a job too. This woman does not ask any question of Rebecca that she does not want to answer. Rebecca loves her new life and friend until she is kidnapper by a couple of white men and is taken out into the sun and is being burnt alive. She is saved from these cruel men by an Indian, a warrior who takes her to his home, his tribe. They take Rebecca in and give her a home. She is adopted by one of the families in the tribe. She now has a mother and father as well as sisters.

Rebecca is given to this warrior as his bride but she is happy to have a new home and have people that accept her for what and who she is. Rebecca and the warrior actually do fall in love with each other. This warrior and her new adopted family will always protect her just like they would protect her if she had been born into their family.

If you like reading about vampires but would like something that is a little different than other books about vampires then New Blood is a book you would want to read. New Blood has a slight new take on vampires but I am very glad that I read it. I like it when the vampires are the good people and not the bad people. I also like when the vampires are just like humans in every way but that they have to drink blood. Maybe their heart doesn't beat anymore but it is still there.

I received a free copy of New Blood through Goodreads First Reads.

Review: Plague By Lisa Hinsley

Plague Title: Plague
Author: Lisa Hinsley
Genre: Apocalyptic
Publisher: Darkling Press
Format: Kindle Edition
Length: 180 pages

Publication Date: December 22nd 2011

Buy Links:Amazon

Book Description From Goodreads:

A new strain of bubonic plague is diagnosed in London. Before it can be contained it spreads through the population, faster and more deadly than anyone could have imagined. Three weeks is all it takes to decimate the country.

Johnny tells Liz not to phone the NHS when their young son starts to show symptoms. But she ignores him and a few hours later the army arrives and boards them into their house.

Now Nathan is dying and there is nothing they can do to help him. Hours pass like weeks as their little boy grows weaker and weaker. All Liz wants is that they die with some dignity but the authorities refuse to help. Then the broadband dies and the phones stop working. Cut off from the world and boarded into their house, the family try their best to cope. But there is nothing they can do to stop the plague.

My Review:

The bubonic plague has reared its ugly head agian but with a new strain. Liz lives with her husband Johnny and 4 year old son Nathan in a small suburban neighborhood. Liz watches as some of her neighbor's homes are boarded up by the army and wonders what is going on. She hears about the plague on the news and is given a number to call if anyone in the household becomes sick.

When Nathan starts getting sick Liz wants to call the number but Johnny tells her not to. But Liz is only thinking about her son calls the number. After calling the number the army comes in and boards up their house with them inside. A doctor is sent to their house to diagnosis Nathan through the plexus glass that was put on the front door. They are given anti-botics and some meds for pain to try and make Nathan more comfortable.

Liz has to watch her child surfer through this awful disease and then she has to watch her husband go through the same thing. Liz starts getting sick herself and running to the bathroom. But she doesn't tell Johnny because she doesn't want him to worry with him being so sick. She knows that neither one of them is going to ever leave their home again.

Liz is one tough lady to watch her child and her husband go through all that the plague put them through with being sick herself. She is definitely not a selfish lady. She loved her family very much. Plague is a very sad book to read and you will probably need a box or two of tissue sitting close by while reading it. But don't let that stop you from reading it because it is one awesome story. Liz is one courageous woman.

I will give you that Plague is a very sad story with Liz having to go through what she did and putting her husband and son before herself. But I still loved reading it. My wish is that all or any mother that if ever had to go through what she did would do and feel the same as she did. Hopefully no one will ever have to experience the plague. But it is very possible that we may have to go through the same thing. It may not be the plague but some other disease.

Excerpt:

Will stopped and scented the air again. There were two vampires nearby; one belonged to the Penton scathe, and one didn't.

He ignored both vampires and skirted to the back of the street where the burned shell of his house still smelled of smoke and ash after three days. Aligning his position with the oak tree twenty feet behind what was left of his chimney, he paced forty steps into the woods.

A thorny bramble that had been draped over a small, scrubby bush pricked his fingers when he pulled it back. Grasping the trunk of the bush, he eased it from its loose grasp in the soil, exposing the top of a metal box.

The loud click of a cocked pistol preceded the cold press of steel against the back of his head by less than a second.

He inhaled, annoyed. A rookie mistake. He'd gotten so engrossed in his task he'd let someone slip up on him.

Vampire.

Penton scathe.

Female.

Freaking Randa.

* * *

Randa grinned, enjoying the disgusted look on Will's face. "If I were your father, I'd already have the silver spoon back in your mouth, Willy. He'd have you trussed up like a rodeo calf by now, hauling you back to wherever it is he lives when he's not terrorizing innocent people."

Will Ludlam was the kind of guy Randa Thomas had hated as a human, and she didn't like him a bit more as a vampire. Less, in fact. Not only was he a spoiled rich boy, he was now a virtually immortal spoiled rich boy. He had probably been a blue-chip jock in school with a 4.0 GPA and a string of girls trailing his every step.

Plus, he annoyed the hell out of her. The consummate smartass.

"No, if you were my father, you'd have slit my throat-not enough to kill me, but enough to make sure I couldn't fight back." His voice was soft, calm. "Then you'd hand me over to your sadistic, freakshow of a second-in-command Shelton, who would play with me until I couldn't take it anymore. Only when I was good and broken would you return the silver spoon to my mouth."

Good God, would any father really do that? Will didn't sound as if he were joking. Randa relaxed her stance for only a split second before the world tilted and she hit the ground, landing on her back with Will stretched out on top of her in a full body press. And he had her gun.

"Damn it." She pushed against him but it was like pressing on bedrock.

He propped on his elbows and grinned down at her. His hat had fallen off in the scuffle and the moonlight glinted off his hair, making it look silver instead of a naturally streaked blond. And he had dimples, as if God hadn't already rewarded him with enough in the looks department.

"And if I were my father, you would be dead. Or worse. Believe me, with Matthias, there's always much worse. Give up?"

She squirmed again, but froze when she realized he was getting turned on by her movements. There was definitely more of him pressing on her than there had been a few seconds earlier.

He laughed, a white glint of teeth in the moonlight. "Oh, don't stop moving, sweetheart. This is getting more and more interesting."

Yeah, she could feel exactly how interested he was getting. She felt a very un-vampirelike flush of heat as he wedged a knee between her legs. Damn it. She clenched her teeth at her body's betrayal-which he'd be able to sense. She hated being a vampire; there was no sense of privacy. "Get. Off. Me. Now."

Will lowered his head and, damn him, inhaled deeply, with his face pressed against the side of her neck. Her carotid artery also thumped in a very unvampire-like cadence. She waited for the smartass comments to start.

Instead, he lifted his head and looked her in the eye. She could swear his heartbeat sped up, although it was hard to tell over the pounding of her own. Well, this was awkward.

He blinked and opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again.

Well, that was one good thing. Will had been stricken dumb, at least for a moment. It wouldn't last.

My Review:

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

In the first book Redemption of the Penton Vampire Legacy we got to read about Aidan and Krys' story. Aidan is the Master Vampire of Penton. He started a community in Penton where humans and vampires live together voluntarily. The vampire's food supply was running short. There was a global pandemic where most of the humans died and humans were given a vaccine that caused their blood to be deadly to vampires. Humans lived in Penton with vampires of their own choosing. Aidan made a deal with them they would be provide a home and job if they lived there so vampires could feed from them. The humans were bonded to a vampire to keep them safe from other vampires, to keep them from feeding from them. Some of the vampires became what they called a "Fam". These humans have not taken the vaccine.

In the second book Absolution of the Penton Vampire Legacy we got to read about Mirren and Glory's story. Mirren is Aidan's second in command. Mirren is a tough guy who is known as the "Slayer" or so he wants everyone to believe that is. But after Glory gets her claws in him we find out he is just a big teddy bear. Mirren use to work for the Vampire Tribunal, the vampire government, as the Slayer. When he started questioning the killings, if they were justifiable then he decided it was time to quite. So he faked his own death and left the tribunal and eventually ended up with Aidan and living in Penton.

And now in the third book Omega of the Penton Vampire Legacy we get to read Will and Randa's story. Will is the son of Master Vampire Matthias Ludlum. Will left his father years ago and he also finally ended up with Aidan. Matthias is a very evil and cruel man. He turned Will vampire when was twenty-two years old. He wanted to have his son with him for all time but it wasn't because he cared so much for him. Matthias is a man that likes to be the boss and in control at all times. He would kill Will if it gained him favor or power with the tribunal. Matthias wants Will back in his command and will do what it takes to get him there. He is after Aidan and Mirren for crimes that they have committed, crimes that they had no choice but to commit. The thing is Mattias has committed the same crimes but under different circumstances which was not for a good reason as Aidan and Mirren committed theirs.

Randa was in the Army as was her father and her brothers. Randa was always trying to prove herself to her father, trying to prove that she was good enough. As a vampire she is still doing the same thing. She can't just be herself. Will is the same way he is always trying to prove that he is good enough too. His father always put him down saying he was stupid but he is not. Will is way smarter than he knows but that is the way it happens when someone tells you, you can't do anything. You become to believe it for yourself. This is why I think Randa and Will were made for each other. They have always felt the same things about themselves. They can understand what the other one has gone through to an extent and can help the other to feel better about themselves.

I really, really loved the Penton Vampire Legacy novels and hope to get to read more of each and every character's story. I loved each book in a different way and for a different reason. I think Aidan had a great idea when he created the little town in Penton. The vampires get to feed and the humans get a second chance and a new start at life. Both sides win; they each get what they need. Penton Vampire Legacy tells a story of good versus evil. You have the good vampires like Aidan that only feeds from a willing human and you have the vampires like his brother Owen who likes to hunt for his food and take it from unwilling humans.

If you like a good vampire story unlike any you have read before then the Penton Vampire Legacy is the book for you. In the Penton Vampire Legacy you have vampires of course add in a little romance along with murder, kidnapping, war and a town full of very good people, vampires and humans.

Book Description From Goodreads:

"Mom always says the angels walk among us. She forgot to tell me that sometimes they're not all fluffy and nice."

Seventeen-year-old Caleb Wood has seen people he calls the walkers since he was a baby. It didn't take long for him to realize something…no one can see these strangers but him. They never stuck around or tried to touch him. And they never said a word. That was until one day on the first day of class in his senior year when an incredibly gorgeous girl strolls into his life…and things are never the same again.

Soon Caleb realizes he has stepped into the middle of a growing conflict between two ancient groups. And his ability to see the invisible ones, the half-breeds that want to modify the human race, just might be the only hope both he and the mysterious, but infuriating, Gia, have of making it out alive.

My Review:

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Caleb Wood is a seventeen year old boy who lives in New Burn, North Carolina. When Caleb was a child he almost drowned in the ocean close to where he lives. Ever since he almost drowned he has seen what he calls walkers (no they are not zombies) his mother calls them angels. Caleb is the only one that can see them. They have never spoken to him and have never bothered him. They just show up every now and again.

On his first day of his senior year a new girl walks into his class room. This new girl Gia is a walker something about her being here is different this time. The difference is that everyone can see her and she talks to Caleb. She pops in and out whenever she takes a notion and in the most mortifying times. Caleb calls her his stalker/walker. He doesn't know who or what she is but he does like her a lot.

Caleb starts seeing these men in black he doesn't have clue as to who they are or what they are nor even what they want from him. Why have they just started showing up now? Why has he not seen them before?

A cheerleader Erica likes Caleb and breaks up with her boyfriend so she can start going out with him. Caleb wonders what she sees in him and why she wants to be with him. She is very popular and a pretty girl. But hey he's a guy and the reason doesn't matter to him all he knows and cares about is she wants him. He likes Erica but he cares more for Gia only thing is he doesn't know if she is real or not.

KaSonndra Leigh knows how to write a story that will keep you guessing and wondering right up until the end. She throws in mystery and mystery that keeps you turning those pages. I was like whom and what is Gia? What does she want from Caleb? Who are these men in black? What do they want from Caleb? Who is Caleb? What is Caleb?

If you like a good "who done it" story then Dark Seraphine is just the book for you. It keeps you guessing all through the book. You think you have it all figured out and then you are like what? No way. When she unveils the ending and slams it in your face it will surprise you big time. But hey I loved it!
